GM CGs

Today is return of the inspector day. Did as he requested. Let's see if it's a pass or fail day. You never know what lies in the minds of these public servents. Good day, bad day. Either your good to go or No! No! No!.

Whatever happens .....

Got the 91 back yesterday. Rear calipers, master cylinder, resurfaced rotors, pads all the way around, bled etc. Another issue resolved. Drove the 90 and the radio/climate control acted up again. It had just been exposed to a serious deluge so dampness could well be the culprit. I took the 90 for a good ride around then took it out on the highway. Noticed at 65 I was only getting around 16 mpg. Then I noticed I had never shifted from 5th to 6th. LOL. The Porsches are 5 speeds so it's pretty easy to go into a 5 speed shift pattern as I fall into a numb mental driving zone. I did turn the heater on. CC made a very good point the other day about keeping the heater core flushed. Turn on the heater once a month. Never thought about it before but it makes sense. The best thing for a car is to use it. All of it. They don't like to sit. Of course, as I write this I now realize many of you are getting ready to put the cars up for a long winters nap.

I was just thinking about putting the car away this morning and what I should do for it. I will probably wait till after Thanksgiving to really retire it for the winter....

I enjoy driving it so much it will be hard not to have that option....Is there a Guru post about storing a Corvette?

Good morning Guru's, to dark out to tell what the day looks like. Thunder storms last night in our area. Got everything out of the trailer yesterday and stuff put away from the wedding....

I continue to get bids on the new truck...I am not all that excited about it for some reason....maybe because it's 50 damn grand......geez!

Have a great day Guru's, let's live it up, you can't take it with you.....

Howdy! Days are getting plenty short. I was out with the lawn sweeper picking up leaves in the dark last night, trying to get some done before it rains today. My next-door neighbor takes my leaves to compost them for his garden, so at least I have a handy spot to dump them. They're just starting to fall in quantity, so it's good to try to stay ahead of the mess. When I first planted these trees decades ago, I didn't have this problem.

Have a good day, everyone!

No need on newer C4's as the coolant runs thru the heater core all the time.
Not sure when that changed, maybe 88-89.

Yeah I agree but is it wise to unhook the battery if it sits for a month. We can get some good clear 50 degree days when I will want to drive it.

I drive mine any sunny day in the winter as long as there's no cinders, etc. from the plows on the road. Takes a couple days for the other cars to clean off the road for you.

No, don't unhook the battery, you'll loose any codes or more importantly - your radio presets.

If you are concerned about the battery, buy a Battery Tender.

For one month, on my car, I don't do anything. C5's have a bit more drain though. But both will start easily on 11 volts.

Change your oil.

I'm not putting the C5 up either. Never put the C4 up. Drove it anytime it was sunny and dry outside. I do need to get the oil changed though. Finally got that done on the truck. Been a strange day already. The ad director at the paper called and finally gave me her calendar changes so we'll go to press with this probably tomorrow evening. The other veteran's book I'm working on is on hold. The publisher there is leaving and the old ad director here will be the new GM there. I thought his ass was still in Delaware. I did win a quarter pounder when i stopped at McDonald's this morning though. Have a fish fry luncheon to attend at noon. Gunna be a bizy day....

Marcus, the biggest thing about storing it will be to keep the rodents away. I have heard about people using drier sheets, mothballs, etc. Hand grenades and flame throwers are a bit too extreme.

Morning gurus....Another busy morning so far. Yesterday after school the wife and I spent about 3 hours cleaning the flower beds, trimming branches from the trees and shrubs. What a PITA, the wife was happy though, and the place looks a lot better. I was tired last night when we went to bed.

I use a tender on mine, but I try to drive it whenever possible in the winter time, just to keep the condensation out.

This comment brings me to a question regarding storage. What's the consensus on changing oil just prior to storing the car? If I use a good quality synthetic, and if said oil has maybe 2,000 miles on it, is it still necessary to change it before storing? I know the reasoning behind it is because oils can sometimes have very slight acidic properties and you don't want that sitting in your engine all winter, but given the situation I've described, am I just wasting money?

Just thinking.

Good Afternoon CGs!

Sitting here watching rugrat #1 do her gymnastics class. Daddy daycare today. They've been good most of the morning. #2 did a faceplant this morning and gave himself a bloody nose. We won't tell the wife that...lol. #1 is going to grandma's after this for the evening. I have errands to do so that's nice. Wife is at work til 7:30 so it's a guy's night.

Back to work for me tommorrow.

Internet is down so I might be scarce for a few days.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Matthew

Ps- congrats, Tommy.

Yea, acidic.
If you're goimg to store it 3 months, I would, it's what $35?

If you drive it once a month, I wouldn't.

Evening guys... It's been another busy day. I'm not ready to put the Corvette up yet.....wait a minute, yes it is UP...on the lift. That's where it stays most of the time anyway. Oil changes, I change it once a year no matter what the mileage is on the Corvette. Coming up here shortly. We are taking it to Dodge City this weekend, so it will have to wait until sometime after that.

Ive picked up two cabinet jobs over the last three days. None are super pressing, but verbal commitments for the work. I just need to do the design work and make estimates.

Tommy, good to hear about the inspections. Bill, don't over do it, pace yourself.

Whats all this stuff about putting the vett up for winter. Snows every 5-10 years were I am at. If it is foggy we head for the beach. Oh and the drought is over first time in years.
Bad news is Isabella dam can't handle much water as they found out a few years ago it had a bad leak. We have nothing to worry about here in the valley as the Army Core of Eneginers will have it repaired some time in the next 20 years or so. Always nice to live near to the Kern River.

Merl Hagg
http://youtu.be/_Pgg9p3BcRM

They also found out it is on top of an active fault.

So how well do C4s float.

Sort of like those levees outside Burbon st. LA

Sorry Brad I know the City of LA is draining your lake. But Mt Whitney is beautiful,

http://youtu.be/TeYKoD9043I

And if you want to see a tough time trials course look at this one in Lone Pine. Brad do you know who is driving the corvette?

Highly unlikely. Tomorrow I'm going to work on the rental house. Can't sell it in todays market so we're gonna get some tenants. A few things need fixin. The nurseries have'nt seen me in a couple of months. I have a backlog there too. Plus about 3 more weeks of work here tightening everything up. December looks very promising. Oh ya. The cars are in need of a good going over. Never a dull day. I never get bored. Don't have any time to. Good thing I'm retired.
