A good start will be getting rid of that fool in the White House.
And repeal the 4,000+ small business regulations that the libs generated.

Small businesses are getting wacked. So much for the dream of starting a new biz these day's , yes ? So many strong and talented individuals that worked hard their lives are done.

Quit breaking the backs of middle class America. That's to all politicians. I got my taxes today. My state income tax nearly doubled since last year. Fed was the same as last year.

Still a fan of a flat tax system. If I'm getting screwed, everyone else should, too.

The fool in The White House didn't start the problem as nice as it would be to place the blame on him. Failed economic policies, foolish lending practices, big promises, small time big expense wars, educational inadaquacies, decaying moral values, illegal immigration, failed leadership and that's just what I thought about in a minute. I could expose more easily but why cry over spilled milk. If you have a product or service that is in demand the customers will seek you out. Disposable income is limited. People evaluate what they spend their hard earned dollars on today and make it go further. We are going through a correction. Many have suffered and more will fall, but some will emerge from the ashes. This is not new. This is life. You must be strong to survive. You have to struggle to survive. I should know. I'm a survivor.

I agree.

I cannot blame Obama, no matter how hard I try, I just doesn't stick.

We are in this place now, because of 60 years of failed policies and the arrogant belief that the middle class would always bail us out. But with the GOP giving tax breaks to the stinking rich, they simply milked us dry.

It must change... I just don't know how it will.

It sucks, and is not likely to get much better until housing turns around. And there is another black cloud hanging over housing in the form of an enormous pile of student loans, keeping many cash-strapped graduates who are lucky enough to find work out of the housing market.

But this will solve everything :-P

I agree that you can't blame the whole thing on Obama, this is the result of 50 years of politicians. But he sure hasn't helped things. How about doing something as the President to lower gas prices? Don't tell me the "most powerful man in the world" can't do that. BS.

And it's my opinion that the government changes on mortgage lending in the 90s (and greedy bankers, or course) caused the housing meltdown.

The higher gas milage requirement on vehicles has resulted in lowering domestic demand. I've been singing about an independent US energy policy for longer than I care to think about. Blame over-zealous environmental regulations and I am an environmentalist. I love nature and believe in preservation but sometimes it gets to the point of ridiculous. Trying to please all the people all the time doesn't work. Never has, never will. The sacrifice of some for the good of the many. There is money to be made, jobs to be created and energy to be harvested.

The president has little control over gas prices. The best he can do is lift the gas tax.

Gas, like everything else is a commodity. In as much as Obama can't set prices for condoms and milk, he can't for gas.

What is needed is to start drilling here in the states again... anything that resembles a national energy policy will start there.

1. It will put people to work. LOT OF PEOPLE.

2. Build refineries. Puts even more people to work.

My personal fix for our energy needs is quite simple:

Bio-diesel and hydrogen or natural gas fueled cars. I know neither are perfect like gas, but shit, we do need to do something.

These investments will then result in a new type of economy. No real difference than when the economy shifted from whale oil to crude... or from candles to electric lamp.

This aspect of our society bothers me to no end. We are so damned resistant to change. That change is some harbinger of evil. However, it has been our nations constant change - or evolution - that has brought us to our prominence.

A favourite quote:

"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." - Arthur Schopenhauer

Think about this. People are so damned quick to poo-poo something because it is new. Why? Fear? Fear of change? Fear of the unknown? If we are that fearful of the unknown, how in the hell do we collectively wake up in the morning? Is today going be exactly the same as yesterday? It better be or I will be scared of it.

As a nation, we are regressing into a pit of fearful ignorance. If we are not careful, we will be no better than those we oppose...

Are you kidding me? Everything done in government and big business is back room deals. A few phone calls and things get done.

BTW, the government does set the prices for milk as well as many agricultural items.

It's no coincidence that gas prices dropped significantly before the 2008 elections.

Say you need a widget repairman. You look to see or ask around who others have used to repair their widget. There is usually a choice in selection. However if your widget is 40 years old, you may need to seek an antique widget specialist. It's all in the hunt.

I can only give thoughts on fields I know. Tradesmen will work at rates depending how hungry they are. In a down economy the demand for people in the building trades has dwindled. There is still a demand for people that need home repairs. Pricing in the market is competitive.

Another example might be a slide rule salesman. My guess is he's not moving any product. Why? No demand.

Tax consultant would be in demand this time of year.

It's not just that. The problem has been that over the last 40+ years, the government has been FORCED into taking the lead.

If OPEC had never happened, do you really think cars would have gotten smaller? Industry has shown, time and time again, that left alone, it will fuck things up royally.

The same thing applies to individuals.

Remember my rants about cats on street cars? That rant had one major message that finally sunk in: If we, as hot rodders and enthusiasts don't take responsibility for our actions, someone else will. History has shown that people won't take that responsibility. So we get screwed. And that means regulation.

I am not a fan of the government getting in the middle of my stuff, but, if I don't do the right thing, they will get in the middle of it in a big ugly way.

All those guys who gutted cats are one law away from being boned. As soon as these softer states are required to test, because their pollution numbers are going up (see how this works?), they will cry foul and bitch about big brother, but if they had only done the right thing 5 years ago, this wouldn't be happening.

I honestly wish that the genpop was smarter and could accept responsibility for their actions, but they aren't. In general, they want anarchy, but don't want to pay for it.

Freedom always comes with a key element that restricts behaviour - that is CIVILITY. Without that, we have nothing. And that requires self control and responsible behaviour.

In as much as we have freedom of speech, we don't have the right to go into a crowded theater and yell "FIRE!". Is that an impingement upon your rights? Or is that civil behaviour?

I fully understand the desire to be unregulated, but I would hate to see this planet... people, in general, are too stupid, too lazy and too greedy to inherently give a shit. And to those of us who would? We feel shafted because of the rest of them.

India has developed a compressed air engine that should soon see the light of day. I'll bet that this engine could NOT be built using US regulations and labor standards. This nation has legislated itself into gridlock.

But Ofailure has ALLOWED fuel prices to surge in another failed attempt to force alternate energy into our lives. It could work if we could afford the private development. We need leadership with both a vision and a plan that encourages the entrepreneur.

Everyone knows that dino-shit is a dead end. But this is not a job for a community organizer and his bunch of chi-town commie buddys.

Aint gonna happen on O'liers watch.

Govt is a self interested entity. The only thing they are interested in, is keeping themselves in charge.

It takes alot of money to get to a position within the Govt so that your in charge of the real (tax payer) money. This is where the problem (with EVERYTHING) lies. Politicans are corrupt little scum bags that will trade their little sisters virginity for a block of votes.... Their ideals - which guide how they make the laws we must follow, and set the policy that we pay for - are bought and paid for by what ever special interest group is buying their family a lifetime of elected Govt offical power.

Right now the current administration (and many before it to a lesser degree) has taken huge amoount of money and votes from the enviromentalist lobby....

With gas, drilling, building new refineries..... Your a moron if you think that Solar and Wind is gonna make the kind of power we (as a society) need in our lifetimes.... It probally won't by the end of our childrens, childrens lifetimes, but the Enviro lobby is pushing this BS that we need to make fossil fuels so expensive so that "Alternative Energy" seems competitive price wise and as a bonus you get to feel good about using it.

So none of that stuff above, that we need to do to keep fossil fuels cheap is gonna happen in the USA. Some previous administrations were in debt to the oil companies and gasoline was under a dollar for generations, but the enviro's have pretty much made Big Oil the boogie man and no politican wants to publicly cuddle with them now.

The hard truth is, Big Oil cornered the market for cheap energy and honestly even with all the Govt interference on behalf of the enviro's - Dino shit is gonna power this world for a VERY long time to come. We have plenty and we need to be getting as much of it out of the ground and refined into the stuff we need as fast as we can....

No doubt we need to figure out how we are going to power the world when the Dino shit runs out, but that is several lifetimes away and the Govt (pressed by the Enviro's) is acting like we HAVE to do it today.... And they are doing everything possible to implement Alternative Energy Techologies that are now where near ready to reliably power a sail boat let alone the world.

First off, calling Obama and his admin "commies" is absolute bullshit, Steve. All it does is make you look like an ignorant fool for not knowing the definition of "Communist."

I will grant you they do lean a lot too socialist for my liking.

However, this post was supposed to be about regulation and personal freedom and how way too many people don't self police. Having just visited two major airports and countless public restrooms, I can tell you this:

There are too god damned many slobs out there have neither the courtesy nor the good nature to pick up the seat before peeing, or bother to flush when done. I am equally sure, it's these morons who also don't wash when leaving the facilities.

And we wonder why regulation is required. Because the general population has reached a new critical mass of absolute stupidity.

It's total lack of respect that these ignorant fools suffer from. They piss on the toilet seat and piss on the world. I keep my mouth shut generally when I encounter this in public because somebody would be going to the jail or the morgue. I hate jail but I sure would like to dish out a couple thousand rations of whoop ass. One day I just may have that opportunity.

The Dow Jones closed above 13000 for the first time since May 19, 2008. The stock market is now up over 56% since Obama took office.

I agree, but economic law is economic law. The strong survive... it's capitalism at its very best. Or worst.

Those businesses, unfortunetely, didn't have the reserves to survive. That is the harsh reality of the system we have.

What this means is that other folks, with new ideas of their own, can now get into markets that in the past may have been saturated. Or, perhaps, some business, by their very nature, have been rendered obsolete. I mean, when was the last time you bought a floppy diskette? Or a vacuum tube? What about an 8-track tape player?

That's a good thing! I don't really trust it though....I don't think we are on that firm of foundation yet.

All brought to you by an overbearing Govt that has it's fingers on the strings of everything we learn and do from craddle to grave.

It's always the story of how the regulation we currently have isn't strong enough or dosen't go far enough.

When people rely on regulation to define what is right and wrong we get what we have today.

But don't worry it's "all for your safety".

This week the mayor of New York City told people they couldn't donate food to the homeless because it was too salty.
