Good Morning CGs!

Well today is the most important day in the household....the wife's bday We went to dinner Sat night as a huge group with her cousins (one of whom was also celebrating a bday). She got some flowers from me, flowers and gift cards from family. I also ordered her a small gift online on 11/6 but it hasn't arrived yet

We had a nice dinner last night at the outlaws. Big turkey, stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce, a few other sides, and some nice lamb steaks off the grill. Then some homemade birthday cake to top it off. Not a bad night. We did some Xmas and grocery shopping and called it a night.

Back to reality today as it's Monday.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Good Morning. Rainy today and colder, the mid 60 temps for Sunday are gone and it looks and feels like winter.
I have been invited back to the high school I retired from teaching and its also my alma mater class of 67,to talk about military service and the meaning of Veterans Day. I have only been gone not quite two years and I have butterflies in the stomach. This is an all school assembly. The principal is a former Marine and we buddy up together when we graduated from high school to enter the Marine Corp. Interesting!
Well gotta get going and figure out what to say! how to explain my transition from Marine to Naval Special Warfare Unit, and from sniper to teacher......
Tell ya how it goes later. Have a great day!

Greetings! Jeeez, 14 makes 21 not sound so bad! We have a little wispy snow blowing around, too. We'll be back in the tropical 40's later in the week.

Happy Birthday to your Mrs., Matt! And knock 'em dead, Ron - I'll bet whatever you come up with will be fascinating.

Have a good day, everybody!

Hola my Guru friends.....Matt wish your bride a happy B-Day from the Ultra's......It's cold here this am 25 right now.

Big 90th birthday bash in Kansas over the weekend. We had the place decorated and some of the guests arrived an hour early because they were running on daylight time.... The weather was perfect and we had a friend playing 40's music on a baby grand piano. Probably 60 or 70 folks showed up to eat and see Mom and Arlin. I got to catch up with some folks that had not seen me since I was a kid....that's been awhile.

One guy was my Sunday school teacher and he was a local judge and he reminded me the last time he had seen me was in 1969 in his courtroom to get a fine for loud pipes on my 305 Honda Scrambler.....I had the muffler off and the butterflies opened up.......that was the beginning of a long line of loud things that I have owned.....it was a 10 dollar fine if I recall....I thought maybe he was going to let me off since he had been my Sunday school teacher....wrong again....we had a laugh about that. The whole weekend was a good time with the Husker win and then Kansas State winning that evening to make it complete.

I came away from there wanting to go and do and ride fast and drive hard and not waste anytime...now is the time for action...old age cometh....

Have a great week Guru's....

Were the butterfly's "Snuff or Not's"?
I had them on my 305 Scrambler, you could reach back and turn the knob to kill the noise.

My Silverado's throwing lean bank codes.
Should be warm enough tomorrow to drain the gastank and put in a fuel filter. 99% sure that won't fix the code but the filter's never been changed. Possible MAF, intake gasket or vacuum leak (easy) or fuelpump (pain in the ass).

I did get an email from Visio stating that the TV model number they are shipping to Walmart for Black Friday is the same model number they currently sell.

What a weekend that was ! Started out with an old-timers racing dinner. Had a really good time at that, got to see some folks I haven't seen in a long time. Caught the new Bond flick, 2 thumbs up on that one. Sunday was leaf raking day at Michelle's house.

Somewhere in all that, I looked at what I thought was going to be a nice C3. It is a white '74 automatic. It didn't take too long for me to decide it wasn't for me. I have a feeling this car has been hit in the front. The fender to door seams looked to be too wide and a bit uneven and the front cap didn't fit right. I think I must be learning a few things by hanging around here.

It's going to be a 3 day work week, heading to Delaware on Thursday, time to burn some rocket fuel !

Bill, my 99 threw a code and when I took it in they changed the O2 sensor in on one side. Fixed the issue and never had it again.

Here at school when they changed the fuel pump on the 99, they decided it was easier to pull the bed off and change it out rather than drop the tank. Just used the engine hoist. and small chain run through the hooks in the bed.

A Lucky day. Lucky the cat was missing since 10:00 PM Saturday night. He hadn't shown up like he always does. If he stays out all night then he's there at the door, waiting, first thing in the morning. He didn't show up yesterday morning. I cruised the neighborhood calling himm from the golfcart. Last night we checked the wells in the feild across the street. They were all capped, so he couldn't have fallen in the well. I thought that either a dog may have got a hold of him or a family thought "What a pretty cat" and brought him inside. Last night he didn't come home for dinner so we figured that's not good. This morning I decided to walk the fence line and call for him. I heard some distant meowing. I called one of the guys at the nursery to come over and help locate him while I called. The cat was 20 feet up a pine tree in a vacant lot behing the house. he had been there for over a day. Carlos climbed the tree to get him out and I brought over a ladder to help them get down. At 57 I can't climb barbed wire fences and trees like I used too. It's not a pretty site. I've always wanted him to be an indoor cat but my wife insisted on letting him roam outside a couple of times a day. She has apparrently sen the eroor of her ways. After two tree rescues in four days, the cat will be an indoor cat. The closest he'll get to the outside will be the back patio. It's amazing the feelings you experience with your pets when you bond with them. That's one of the drawbacks of pet ownership for me. I actualy care about these stupid animals.

Depends what that code was Tom. I hitting 171 & 174, lean bank. I did fix the PO300 with a F/P regulator.
Generally not thought to be caused by the O2 sensors.

Yea, I hear the "pull the bed" thing too.

Good to hear you found the cat, Tommy!

I'm back at home - wife called me at the office to inform me that the furnace wasn't working. So I'm waiting for the repair guy to show up.

Since I don't have any home improvement projects, yesterday I decided that I'd replace the perfectly good but dated-looking wood balusters on our railings with wrought iron ones. Ordered the stuff yesterday, so I imagine it will be here in a few days.

Brad, the oldest daughter wants to change out her wood balusters for wrought iron ones. I'm pretty sure that is another project I'll be looking at for her in the fairly near future.

Where did you find yours?

Thanks Brad

I'm sure there is nothing wrong with the furnace that a couple of hunderd dollars won't fix.

I'll be back ....

I ordered them from cheapstairparts.com - prices seemed reasonable compared to some other sites I looked at. We went with the oil-rubbed bronze finish. Shipping was kinda spendy, but it was around 100 lbs. Shouldn't be too bad of a job, other than that I'll need to replace some wood in the railings where the fillets were.

I lucked out on the furnace - apparently, when we had it tuned up last month, the guy left a gas valve inside the furnace in the "off" position.

Yep...that's exactly what those were....I always ran them open but they would do a fairly good job of toning down the noise.....

This one's a 250 cc without the Snuffers.....great looking bike...we all wanted the monster 305's.....lol

I took a nice long and needed nap today. A good nights sleep and I should be feeling a lot better. Delivery way up in North Miami tomorrow morning. 06:30 departure to try and be on the front side of the traffic wave. Should make it home by 10:30 if all goes well. Then I can start my daily routine or maybe take another good long nap.

Yea, good=expensive.

But a lot them are like the shop that pulled David' mom's engine apart.

The one that worked on my car in the '70's used the worst possible (i.e. fast) repair techniques. I'll have 100+ hours in fixing their crap.
Today it was sanding down the fenderwells in the engine bay ane finding bondo on the fenderwells.

I remember when the plasmas were $10K. And a VCR with a corded remote was $1000 back in the mid 70's. Those TV's will probably be $698 at Wallyworld in a few years ;-)

I wonder how many pounds to inflate that cat rest.

That TV post got me thinking through technology of music rolls, vinyl, reel to reel, 8 track, cassette, cd, sattelite radio, mp3, etc. Time waits for no one. I remember ......... nevermind ........ When you think about it, everything that's new gets old real fast. The changes through the past 130 years is mind boggling.

Everyone is Christian on Christmas. Who doesn't like getting presents?
