It's a shame.
I only know his work from "American HotRod" but it looked awesome. Sad to see the Hot Rodders go.

That really sucks! I really enjoyed his show and his wheels were awesome.

According to the articles he mentored both Chip Foose and Jesse James
What a trip for those guys, to have learned from him and then carried on such a creative skill.

Bummer. I didn't know he did anything beyond wheels until "American Hot Rod" showed up on TV.

Hot Rod Legend Boyd Coddington Hospitalized

Boyd Coddington was unable to attend the North American International Auto Show in Detroit to enjoy the sneak peak of his latest creation or any of the collector car auctions in Scortsdale, Arizona. The legendary hot rod designer and fabricator who just completed a million-dollar, hand-built Delehaye inspired hot rod fell ill shortly after the holidays.

According to his wife Jo Coddington, Boyd was rushed to the hospital after a fall at his home.
Boyd Coddington, the multi-award winning designer, fabricator and alumni of the Hot Rod Hall of Fame, was admitted for observation and then released. Several days later, Boyd complained of continued complications and was re-admitted to a hospital near his Southern California home. There doctors made a diagnosis and he was rushed to surgrey.

"We are happy to report that Boyd is recovering and doing very well, he is expected to go home next week. Boyd and I would like to thank all of the people who have sent their well wishes and support!", stated Jo Coddington.

Boyd Coddington is a Southern California automotive icon and star of TV's "American Hot Rod". Coddington has designed and fabricated numerous show winning hot rods for rock stars, corporations and individuals. Coddington vehicles have appeared in museums, hit TV shows and even the cover of The Smithsonian Magazine.

It is quite certain that with all of the idle time he is spending in the hospital, Boyd Coddington is dreaming up a way to hot rod his hospital bed. Coddington customized medical equipment could be the next product from this innovative genius!

I guess he didn't make it.....

I didn't care too much for some of his work, but I sure do admire his compassion for his design creativity. RIP Boyd

I can't say how many years I've been following his work. He used to be in all the magazines when I was a lot younger. Then he kind of fizzled out or soemthing. Then one day I saw an ol' 55 shoebox that he built and what a nice car it was. I told the owner he probably paid too much, but he didn't care because Boyd built it.

I used to watch American Hot Rod when I could remember it was on. I was just thinking about that show the other day.

I don't remember all the details, but in the late 80s, the hotrod and collector car business was super hot.

He licensed his name to products and such (B Coddington) and the costs went nuts and he was bought out by some Japanese investors and he lost control of the name.

It took him several years to recover, financially, and he did, but came back as Boyd Coddington. That's why he vanished for a while.

For some reason, I don't believe that he had a TV persona, I think what you saw is what he was. A hard ass who was genuinely having a hard time with his fall from grace.
