Good morning.

Not only is it half way through the week we're half way through the month.

Should be mostly cloudy here with a chance of showers later today. The fall leave are starting to get to full color here in N.E. Indiana from what I have observed and thankfully I don't have that many around the house. So I feel for all you guys and gals who have to do the raking and gutter cleaning. They are nice to look at though.

Let's get going.

Word of the Day Wednesday, October 15, 2014

Today is NATIONAL I LOVE LUCY DAY

Resized Image

National I Love Lucy Day celebrates one of television’s all time greatest shows, I Love Lucy.

“I Love Lucy”, an American sitcom starring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance and William Frawley made it’s debut on October 15, 1951.

In four of its six seasons, I Love Lucy was the most watched show in the United States and was the first to end its run at the top of the Nielsen ratings.

Was the first scripted television program to be shot live on 35 mm film in front of a studio audience
Won five Emmy Awards
Received numerous nominations
2002 – Ranked second on TV Guide’s list of television’s greatest shows
2007 – Listed as one of Time magazine’s “100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME.”
I Love Lucy remains popular with an American audience of 40 million people each year.

NATIONAL I LOVE LUCY DAY HISTORY

Within our research, we were unable to find the creator of National I Love Lucy Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

NATIONAL FOSSIL DAY

National Fossil Day is celebrated annually on Wednesday of the second full week in October. In 2014, this day falls on October 15th.

National Fossil Day was established to promote the scientific and educational values of fossils. This nationwide celebration was first held on October 13, 2010, during Earth Science Week. The National Park Service and over 270 partners, including museums, institutions, organizations and other groups, joined together to celebrate fossils. Hundreds of activities were hosted across the United States allowing the public to better understand the world’s fossil heritage.

National Fossil Day 2011 was observed on October 12, 2011 with events at museums, parks, universities, and non-profit organizations.

National Fossil Day 2012 was celebrated on October 17, 2012. The National Fossil Day Celebration on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. was the kick-off event.

The 2013 National Fossil Day was celebrated on October 16, 2013.

Each year a new National Fossil Day logo is created depicting a prehistoric organism. The logos help to promote National Fossil Day and provide educational opportunities to share more information about fossils. The original National Fossil Day logo was created in 2010 and featured a fossil mammal known as the titanothere. In 2011, the marine reptile known as the mosasaur was used in the National Fossil Day logo. During 2012, the mammoth was used for the annual logo. For 2013, a Paleozoic invertebrate known as the eurypterid is featured in the annual logo.

Each year a new National Fossil Day logo is created and is unveiled in mid-January on the event website: http://nature.nps.gov/geology/nationalfossilday/ The new logo will highlight another interesting story related to the fossil record of life.

NATIONAL GROUCH DAY

Resized Image

If you are a grouch or if you know someone who is a grouch then today is your special day, it is National Grouch Day, a day that is celebrated annually on October 15. According to Sesame Street Magazine, National Grouch Day was created for all Grouches to celebrate their way of life.
As per Merriam-Webster dictionary, a grouch is described as:
a person who complains frequently or constantly
a habitually irritable or complaining person
It seems that a grouch may be happy (although they would never admit it) only when other’s are unhappy and grouchy also. It is then that they feel most comfortable by having others share in their world with them.

National Grouch Day would be a good time to send a “grouch” e-card to someone you know and then ask a friend, whether they be a grouch or not, to come on over, sit back, share some popcorn, relax and watch “Grumpy Old Men” !

Today, if you are not normally a grouch, it is okay to be a little bit grouchy as you have an excuse. If you are a grouch; Happy National Grouch Day and…… We hope your future days are much brighter!

NATIONAL GROUCH DAY HISTORY

Our research found that, although not confirmed, there are indications the creator of National Grouch Day, an “unofficial” national holiday, was the Sesame Street Magazine, in honor of the famous Sesame Street grump – Oscar the Grouch.

Good Morning CGs!

National Grouch day...seems appropriate for Tommy

Not much going on here. Actually watched a movie with the wife last night which we don't get to do too often. Something called The Fault in Our Stars. Certainly not my kind of movie but it was pretty good. Wife read the book so she wanted to watch it. A sad, sappy movie about a couple of teenagers with cancer and one dies. Nothing blew up and there were no car chases, so I don't think I'd watch that one again. But it's good to expand your horizons every now and then

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Mwa penduka nawa!

Warming up a bit here, mid-60's today and they're hinting at 70 tomorrow. I have a feeling the end is near, though. Meanwhile, Go Royals!

Have a good day, Gurus!

...all of a sudden I see some KC hats and t-shirts popping up in town....I myself have been trying to find my KC hat down in my hat collection....may have to go buy one. I don't think you can make up stuff like the season they are having....

Nice out today and Indian summer is here for a week or so. Will be getting ready for outdoor work today. We are going in for class this evening and plan to take the GS as the Corvette driving days come to a close....I put on about 7K this year so far I'm thinking....all with a big smile as the Hurst shifter snicks into gear......nice!

Tell someone they are doing a good job today Guru's....it could make their day on Grumpy day....

It is packing day here. Tomorrow morning the Corvette and I head out for Delaware. Hoping to get some nice pictures along the way. Put a good coat of wax on it last night to get it looking right. Looking forward to the hills of PA and the fall scenery along the way.

Was posted I think on CNN yesterday that the WHO expects this in those countries to turn into a 10,000 case per week issue... Just think what that will end up over here with folks traveling abroad. And our top official sending troops there, etc. Can you say plague revisited?

Everyday is National Grouch day for me. I can't fit all my grouchiness into a single day. No way.

I always thought that this would be the way it all goes down. Maybe the flames of "The End" will be from burning the infected corpses. Just think of how few problems we'll have if we're all dead. Big cities will be first I'm guessing. Funny ........ It IS October .........
