Good morning gang.

Raining here today with temps in the upper 40's lower 50's.

SSDD so let's not waste any time getting things started.

Word of the Day Thursday, November 06, 2014

anatine \ AN-uh-tahyn, -tin \, adjective;

1.resembling a duck.

2.of or pertaining to the family Anatidae, comprising the swans, geese, and ducks.

Origin:

Anatine comes from the Latin word for "duck," anas . It entered English in the mid-1800s.

Today is NATIONAL NACHOS DAY

Today it might be your snack, your lunch or even your evening meal. For one of those meals enjoy the crunch as you celebrate National Nachos Day. National Nachos Day is celebrated annually on November 6.

In their simplest form, nachos are tortilla chips covered in nacho cheese or other melted cheese and served with salsa.

First created sometime around 1943, the popular and loved nachos are of Mexican origin. Nachos can be made quickly and served as a snack, an appetizer or prepared with extra ingredients as a full meal.

It is believed that Ignaci “Nacho” Anaya created the original nachos in the city of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, just across the border from Eagle Pass, Texas. The story is told of a group of wives of United States soldiers stationed at Fort Duncan in Eagle Pass were in Piedras Negras on a shopping trip. When done shopping, they arrived late to a restaurant after it had closed for the day. Maître d, Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya served them a snack which he invented from what little was available in the kitchen: tortillas and cheese. Anaya cut the tortillas into triangles, topped them with shredded cheddar cheese and quickly heated them. He then added sliced jalapeno peppers and served them to the ladies. When Anaya was asked what the dish was called, he replied, “Nacho’s especiales“. As the word of this new creation traveled, people tried them, loved them and overtime, the name changed and Nacho’s “specials” became “special nachos”.

The original recipe is printed in the 1954 St. Anne’s Cookbook.

The popularity of the new dish spread swiftly throughout Texas and the Southwest and has since gained millions of fans across America.

Nachos with an abundance of toppings are often called
“loaded nachos” or “super nachos”.

Some of the popular nachos toppings include: re-fried beans, ground beef, shredded beef, chicken, seafood, shredded cheese, jalapeno peppers, green pepper, lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, onion, sour cream, and guacamole.

NATIONAL NACHOS DAY HISTORY

Within our research, we were unable to find the creator of National Nachos Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

NATIONAL MEN MAKE DINNER DAY

Each year on the first Thursday in November, men take charge in the kitchen as it is National Men Make Dinner Day.

There are some men that like to cook and do so on a regular basis and to those men, kuddos to you and you can submit your favorite recipe on the National Men Make Dinner website. http://www.menmakedinnerday.com/home/index.php

This day was created for the men who do not know their way around the kitchen so well and are not familiar with the stove and oven and for the women in their lives who need a break.

Men need to be aware that there are a list of rules that must be followed, some of which include:

◦The main meal must include a minimum of 4 ingredients and require at least one cooking utensil other than a fork.
◦Man goes shopping for ‘all’ necessary ingredients.
◦Must clean up as you go.
◦Aprons are optional.

For a list of complete rules, see the above mentioned website.

NATIONAL MEN MAKE DINNER DAY HISTORY

Within our research, we were unable to find the creator of National Men Make Dinner Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

NATIONAL SAXOPHONE DAY

National Saxophone day is celebrated annually on the birthday of British instrument maker, Adophe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone, one of the main instruments in jazz music.

Born on November 6, 1814, Adophe Sax invented many musical instruments including the saxophone. Sax constructed saxophones in several sizes in the early 1840′s and on June 28, 1846 received a 15-year patent for the instrument. The patent encompassed 14 different versions of the fundamental design, split into two categories of seven instruments each and ranging from sopranino to contrabass.

After Sax’s patent expired in 1866, several saxophonists and instrument manufacturers implemented their own improvements to the original design and keywork.

Here is a list of some of the Saxophone greats.

◦Stan Getz, Sidney Bechet, Sonny Rollins, Lester Young, Eric Dolphy, Coleman Hawkins “Hawk”, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker “Bird”, Kenny G., Steve Cole, Jimmy Dorsey, Julian Adderley “Cannonball”, Grover Washington Jr.

To celebrate National Saxophone Day, listen to some of their, or other great saxophone music today!

NATIONAL SAXOPHONE DAY HISTORY

We know that November 6 was chosen to celebrate National Saxophone Day in honor of the birth date of Adophe Sax, however, our research was unable to find the creator of National Saxophone Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

Good Morning CGs!

I have had a couple of great workouts the past few days and I am sore. Looking forward to another tough workout today. Soreness makes me feel like I accomplished something with my lifts. Of course, Tommy may disagree.

I think it's almost time to let the Vette hibernate for the winter. I will drive it the rest of the week and this weekend I am going to sneak over to my parents' new place and tuck it away. They have a two car garage they are not using (don't ask me why???). I need to get it filled up, add some stabil, throw on the cover and the tender, and call it a day. I'll try to wash it, too.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Morning guys....Going to be a long day, as we have P-T conferences. School from 8-noon, and conferences from 1-8pm. The payoff is no school tomorrow.

Rudd looks pretty old for 60, I guess it's not the age, it's the mileage. He looks like he's got a lot of rough miles on him

Mimike mogri!

Can't believe it is Thursday already, I thought this week would drag after being on vacation - wrong! Here Matt's car is just going into hibernation, and mine has been comatose for weeks. My new pressure plate showed up in the mail, so my parts inventory is growing.

Have a good day, Gurus!

Sunny today finally but will be only about 60 at best. Better than raining and cold, I'll take it. Leaving work early today - my Floridian friend came up to visit for a couple days, there's an Alice Cooper/Motley Crue concert in Southaven MS tonight we are going to, supposed to have 'meet and greet' passes as well.

Was a long day, I did have more parents this year than the past several, so that was good. I also got quite a bit done in the shop. Made some big headway on some rolling cabinets, worked on two different counter tops and did some cleaning of the shop done in between parental visits.

I had one parent, very interested in what his son was learning and in me and my experience. After telling him that this was my 35th year of teaching, he said, 35? That can't be right. How old are you? I told him I was almost 60, he says, No, I'm 42 and you look younger than me. I thanked him, but assured him that I was almost 60. And on a side note.....he was dead serious.
