Good morning gang.

Cold had a little bit of snow last night. Looking forward to the weekend and warmer temps. Should reach near 40 then.

On with today.

Word of the day is periphrasis

Today is NATIONAL HOT PASTRAMI SANDWICH DAY

Pastrami lovers across the country eat lunch in celebration, having their favorite sandwich, each year on January 14 as they celebrate National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day.

A very popular delicatessen meat, pastrami is usually made from beef however sometimes is made from pork, mutton or turkey. Pastrami was originally created as a way to preserve meat before modern refrigeration and is made by the raw meat being brined, partially dried, seasoned with various herbs and spices, then smoked and steamed.

A wave of Romanian Jewish immigration introduced pastrami (pronounced pastróme), a Romanian specialty, in the second half of the 19th century. Early English references used the spelling “pastrama” before the modified “pastrami” spelling was used.

New York kosher butcher, Sussman Volk is generally credited with producing the first pastrami sandwich in 1887, claiming to have gotten the recipe from a Romanian friend in exchange for storage of his luggage. Due to the popularity of his sandwich, Volk converted his butcher shop into a restaurant to sell pastrami sandwiches.
◦Pastrami is typically sliced and served hot on rye bread, a classic New York deli sandwich (pastrami on rye), sometimes served with coleslaw and Russian dressing.
◦Pastrami and coleslaw are combined in a Rachel sandwich ( a variation of the Reuben sandwich using corned beef and sauerkraut)
◦In Los Angeles – The classic pastrami sandwich is served with hot pastrami right out of the steamer, sliced very thin and wet from the brine then layered on double-baked Jewish-style rye bread. It is traditionally accompanied by yellow mustard and pickles.
◦In Salt Lake City – In the early 1960′s, Greek immigrants introduced a hamburger topped with pastrami and a special sauce. This pastrami burger still remains a staple of local burger chains in Utah.

To celebrate National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day, try the following “tried and true” recipe:

NATIONAL HOT PASTRAMI SANDWICH DAY HISTORY

Within our research, we were unable to find the creator of National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

NATIONAL DRESS UP YOUR PET DAY

National Dress Up Your Pet Day is celebrated each year on January 14. Pets do become, and are, part of ones family and this day was created to make it a special day for them, to celebrate them and also to support the pet fashion community.

The name of the day tells you how to celebrate it; dress your pets up!

Please remember to keep your pets safe and comfortable in the pet clothing and costumes that you choose.

For more information on National Dress Up Your Pet Day, see: http://www.dressupyourpetday.com/about.htm

Something to think about:
Do you know how you would dress up pet birds or fish ?

NATIONAL DRESS UP YOUR PET DAY HISTORY

National Dress Up Your Pet Day, an “unofficial” national holiday, was founded in 2009 by Celebrity Pet Lifestyle Expert and Animal Behaviorist, Colleen Paige.

RATIFICATION DAY

January 14 annually acknowledges Ratification Day in the United States. This day is in commemoration of the ratification of the Treaty of Paris on January 14, 1784 at the Maryland State House in Annapolis, Maryland by the Confederation Congress. This act officially ended the American Revolution and established the United States as a sovereign entity.
◦A proclamation was issued by the Confederation Congress on April 11, 1783, “Declaring the cessation of arms” against Great Britain.
◦Congress approved the preliminary articles of peace on April 15, 1783.
◦The Treaty of Paris was ratified on January 14, 1784.

The following is an excerpt from the proclamation of ratification:
“By the United States in Congress assembled, a proclamation : Whereas definitive articles of peace and friendship, between the United States of America and His Britannic Majesty, were concluded and signed at Paris, on the 3rd day of September, 1783 … we have thought proper by these presents, to notify the premises to all the good citizens of these United States …
Given under the seal of the United States, witness His Excellency Thomas Mifflin, our president, at Annapolis, this fourteenth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-four … ” (Wikipedia)

Good Morning CGs!

Doesn't look like we got any snow, Mike. Maybe you got ours from two days ago moving across.

Marcus - the diesel is for the ooooodi A3 wagon. That's my DD. I love that car. Wife hates it

So after a long time of waiting and debating what to do, I signed up at a local martial arts school for a few classes. I have been missing doing it for a lot of years. So last night was my first class. Went well. Did some conditioning, a little tae kwon do sparring, and some hapkido at the end. I really enjoyed myself. I will try to make it a couple of times a week when I can. Got a good sized bruise on my foot already from fighting last night but that comes with the territory. I was fighting a 2nd degree black belt, but that doesn't mean anything since I was a 1st degree black belt when I was younger. Still remember a thing or two

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good mawnin

Hot Pastrami? Delicious. Hit or miss at the deli's and sandwich shops. It's mouth watering when made with quality meat heated to where it's soft and moist. Subway started selling it. Can't vouch for the quality since I haven't tried it yet. Pastrami with egg's and toast would make a good breakfast I'm guessing.

It's a foggy start to the day. I have to check what's on the other side of the gray mass. Will it be sunny or dreary today. Have to look at TWC online.

Recently I bought the First 3 seasons of Boardwalk Empire. We just finished them and I'm waiting for season 4 to come in the mail. Bought it on ebay. I also ordered the complete Soprano's set. We never watched it because I didn't have that cable channel. A friend suggested Showtime's 3 season Brotherhood also. I'm a sucker for the mob movies. I like Scarface, The Godfather 1 and 2, Casino and movies in that vane. If you've never seen a show or movie, it's new to you no matter how old it is. It's like watching a race or football game that already happened. The results are in the books but if you don't know them it's all fresh to you.

Alrighty then. You gurus try to make it a good day. If you don't make it a good day, nobody else will.

Na zing tha maw!

It's about 30 degrees warmer this morning, feels much more conducive to human life. Got a little snow overnight, so it's a good day for windshield washer fluid salesmen.

I enjoyed Boardwalk Empire a lot - I've always been fascinated by that era. I never watched the Sopranos, either - I should get the box set of that as I'm sure I'd like it.

Have a good day, yawlz!

Morning guys...been a busy day already. A little break before the next class comes in. In b-ball action last night our girls and boys put it to the home team, making the hour ride home for them more enjoyable. My GS played really well against boys much bigger than him. He had 4 or 5 blocked shots, 9 points and 12 rebounds. The other team made a run at the end of the game but we responded with decent freethrow shooting.

Still cold out here, but is supposed to start making a comeback.

I got a recall notice from GM on my Corvette. They say that parts for repair are available and to schedule to have it fixed. I guess I need to call over to the dealer and see what they have to say.

C2 interuptious.

Drive me nuts:

Ball Joints:

Online-
Crap foreign made: $18

USA made but not correct: $35

Correct repo: $90

So, I look on Summit's website - Moog, alright, good ones.
Run out and buy them without opening the box.

The top of the Moog is huge, looks like a gun turret, so, I'll take them back.

Spending 2 hours per part is nuts.

And I still haven't found the hidden parking brake part I need to finish the rear.

CLEAR AND COLD IN THE NATIONS THIS MORNING. THE CHEROKEES ARE WAITING FOR THE THAW.

I SEE WHERE THE PROFIT MOBAMA IS ATTACKING THE U.S. NATURAL GAS INDUSTRY WHILE HIS SAUDI FRIENDS DESTROY THE U.S. OIL PRODUCERS.

THE FRACKING BOOM IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO US SINCE 1973, SO NATURALLY IT'S UNDER ATTACK BY THE USUAL SUSPECTS. A WELL THOUGHT OUT TARIFF ON OIL IMPORTS MIGHT SAVE US A LOT OF PAIN, BUT THE ARABS OWN TOO MANY AMERICAN POLITICIANS FOR THAT TO EVER HAPPEN.

I was weeding the beds in the front yard being mindful of the dog piles conveniently laid around the yard. I managed to avoid any trouble. Then I was working on the last two feet of the last bed. As I stepped to reach the last couple of batches of spider grass and weeds, smoosh. Only goes to show that even when aware of the dangers that surround you ......$#!+ happens.

This followed that last tune, tee. Language warning. BillH could be singing this song.

I got a nice padded leather console lid cover for my truck in the mail today. Ordered from Redline Goods, same place I got my shifter boot for my Vette. Should be a nice change from the hard rubbery stock cover.

Matt, your off the hook on the not showering everyday thing. Apparently you CAN go several days without a shower. You've been right all along. I wouldn't know anything about that though. One in the morning and one after work for me. I may be washing away vital oils but it's accompanied with the days worth of dirt and grime.
