Good morning gang.

Cold start today temps -4* and we should reach a high of about 12 later today with chance of snow on and off.

Yesterday marked the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Word of the day is doggo.

Today is NATIONAL LOVE YOUR PET DAY

February 20th, celebrates National Love Your Pet Day. This “unofficial” National holiday is a day set aside to give extra attention to and pamper your pets that you love everyday. This is a good day to focus on the special relationship that you have with your pets.

Did you know that most households in the United States have at least one pet?

Our pets give us so much. They give us unconditional love and many health benefits which include stress relief and lower blood pressure. Our pets give us these benefits without asking for anything in return. So on February 20 (and everyday) show your appreciation to your pets!

National Love Your Pet Day, maybe you want to buy your pet a special treat or a new toy, or maybe you want to take them for an extra long walk or just spend some extra special time with them. Whatever you decide to do, spoil and appreciate your pets!

Enjoy Love Your Pet Day!

NATIONAL LOVE YOUR PET DAY HISTORY

Our research failed to find the creator or the origin of this “unofficial ” National”

NATIONAL CHERRY PIE DAY

Celebrated annually on February 20th, it is National Cherry Pie Day. This is a day for all cherry pie lovers to eat their favorite pie for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner.

It seems only right that we celebrate the cherry pie so close to Presidents Day as we all know that there is a story of President George Washington and the cherry tree. It is also written that cherry pie was not only the favorite pie of George Washington but it was also the favorite of Queen Elizabeth I.

According to the American Pie Council, pie came to America with the first English settlers. The early colonists cooked their pies in long narrow pans calling them “coffins” like the crust in England. As in the Roman times, the early American pie crusts often were not eaten, but simply designed to hold the filling during baking. It was during the American Revolution that the term crust was used instead of “coffyn”.

In the United States, cherry pie is often referred to as a “great American dish”. Recipe books have many different versions of recipes for cherry pie. Try one of the following “tried and true” cherry pie recipes:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/cherry-pie-recipe.html

http://www.pillsbury.com/recipes/cher ... ff-4d91-8ee6-74497819b6f3

http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/fresh-cherry-pie

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/perfect-cherry-pie/

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/baked-fresh-cherry-pie/

Whether you have it hot or cold, with ice cream or whipped cream, alone or with a friend, enjoy a piece or two of cherry pie!

NATIONAL CHERRY PIE DAY HISTORY

GMCG's

Well I was up at 03:00 AM. Had to turn on the sprinklers to limit frost damage. The S-10's windshield was frosted when I got up at 07:00 so it was a wise move. Frost damage can put a serious dent in the inventory from plant loss. South Florida plants don't take too kindly to freezing. The cold snap ends this morning and we return to more normal temps tonight. Like many places, we just had a record low for this date. I was hoping we would escape the winter without a freeze. Hopefully it wasn't cold enough, long enough to do much damage. We'll know in a few days. This was the only freeze day all winter for us. The middle of the state northward did not fare as well. They were down in the 20's. Strawberries, oranges, corn and other winter crops took a hit I'd say. Let's see how I do today on a broken nights rest. My front electric gate isn't working right now. Hopefully it will return to duty when it warms up. Sue got me up at 07:00 ............. THE FRONT GATED WON'T OPEN ..... I HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE ........... Like somehow I had something to do with it.

Morning guys....we are still on the right side of all the really cold stuff. It was 66 yesterday and beautiful. Today is supposed to be mild yet and then tonight the rain starts, the temps drop and then snow Saturday into Sunday. Highs tomorrow are in the 30's, then 20's, Monday in the teens. Quite a shocker we're in for.

Get to travel tonight for the next to the last regular season game. Next Friday ends the regular season and then the playoffs begin.

Plant mojo, Tommy.

I need to get to school.

I saw temps of -16 on the way into work this morning. All of the bridges and overpasses were a frozen mess. Traffic was tied up for 2 acccidents within about a mile of each other. And I had the good road.

Tomorrow we are looking at temps in the 30s.

At least it is Friday.

I always thought a boar buster was a .223 or a .30-06.......Tom I can't believe it was so warm out in your country.....its ugly here.....

I have always liked pets.....we have a Norfolk Terrier that is a lot of fun...I'm thinking double treats for him today.......

Got through a whole day yesterday without a mishap in the trucking business.....it was so nice.....hope today is the same....

Thinking of buying a 60 X 80 building to run the business out of. All insulated with the overhead heaters two big doors.....I'm renting it now and the gal told me yesterday she would sell it to us if we wanted. Sits on 4 acres of ground. On a paved road.....downside is its 15 miles from our house but we would get used to that. Building was built 5 years ago is is almost brand new......waiting to hear what the price is before we start negotiating......we rent another warehouse now and this would mean we could move everything together.....we will see how it goes......

You stay safe and warm Guru's......killing frost takes 3 or 4 hours at about 28 degrees Tommy......hope it warms up for you....

Marcus, here the frost will burn the leaves of palms and other tropicals, even on short duration. They'll turn brown. They might live but recovery takes months. Hard to sell a brown or dead plant. There's a running joke at the nursery for dead plants. Carlos will show me a dead plant and ask me if I want to take it home and plant it in my yard. lol

Good Morning CGs!

I'm getting irritated by the site loading problems....grrr.

We are packed up and ready to hit the road in a bit for a short weekend trip. Should be fun. Big group of people going for a ski jump/snow festival.

Marcus - buying that spot sounds like a wise business decision if it's financially feasible.

Tommy - good luck with the plants.

Hope everyone has a great day!

One evening a wife brings her frail, addle brained husband to a nursing home and leaves him, hoping he will be well cared for. The next morning, the nurses bathe Tommy, feed him a tasty breakfast (like on a cruise ship), and set her in a chair at a window overlooking a lovely flower garden(like on a cruise ship).

He seems ok, but after a while he slowly starts to lean over sideways in his chair. Two attentive nurses immediately rush up to catch him and straighten him up. Again he seems OK, but after a while he starts to tilt to the other side. The nurses rush back and once more bring him back upright. This goes on all morning. Later the family arrives to see how the old man is adjusting to his new home. "So Pop, how is it here? Are they treating you all right?" they ask.

"It's pretty nice," he replies. "Except they won't let you fart."
