Good Morning CGs!

I can't believe it's the 24th already. Where has this month gone? Fall already, it will be winter soon. They say this warm weather is a result of El Nino. I'll take it. Maybe it will make for a pleasant winter as opposed to what we've had the past two years. We'll see.

Took the headers and cleaned them up a bit last night. I also took a hammer to the primary tubes to add a little extra clearance near the bolts. I had a tough time getting access to remove them. I'll try to drop them off at the place that does coatings later.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Za wagono!

Another dreary, drizzly day here. I think the rain is supposed to clear out of here later today. Meanwhile, I am ready for my nap chair already.

Have a good one, yawlz!

Nice cool morning near in the Nations Capital. It's great having the windows open and the AC/Heat turned OFF.

Yesterday was 100% suck on the roads with the Pope visiting... they had the National Mall roped off and everything within 2 blocks of where he was sight seeing closed for hours. Those souls that wanted to catch a glimpse of him had to go thru security check points early in the morning to get in and then weren't allowed to leave for hours.

No coolers or drinks were allowed to be brought in.... you had to buy it from the cleared vendors. What a racket. Everything is corrupt crony capitalism in DC. Even the Pope's visit.

Down here on MCB Quantico we have the Modern Day Marine Expo going on today. All of us contractors have our currently fielded and hopefully soon to be fielded future equipment on display. It's fun blowing smoke with Politicians, Marine Generals and Foreign dignitaries from our allies... but really the best thing for me is the young Marines that actually use our stuff occasionally get to come and talk with us about how much they love/hate our gear/training/support.

Have a good day guys.
Will

Morning guys....For not having much on the agenda yesterday, I was sure busy. Another day with not much on the agenda, we'll see how this one plays out. My Royals finally got another win last night, but it wasn't easy. Magic number to clinch is down to 2.

Matt, did you get the engine pulled? WE've heard out here in our part of the country, from the Almanac, it's supposed to be a long tough winter.

One of the computer calls I made was to a friend whose wife worked with me at school, she passed a few years back from cancer. He has a boy (probably 30 years old, so not much of a boy anymore) with Downs syndrome, who is just great to be around. Hard working, the boy has two jobs, and needs the computer to keep up on his paperwork for one of the jobs. He sweeps and cleans at the local convenience store and reads the pumps and charts the fuel being pumped through them.

He (dad) isn't the most tech savvy and was telling me that the boys' flip phone was on it's last leg, but hesitated to do a smart phone for him as he's kind of hard on phones. I told him I had one of my old Casio Commando (military specs) that would be a good one for him to try before he dove in for a new phone. So I hunted that down yesterday for him, put the battery in and charged it up. I know that the boy will be tickled. Oh,

BTW I worked on his computer for three and a half hours and when I finally got it done, dad says to me, "Well. how much does he owe you?" I say, "Nothing." He has a puzzled look on his face, so I tell him "When I got here this morning, he had a breakfast for me." He had bought an egg muffin and a bottle orange juice for me. Even though I'd already had breakfast, I ate it and it made him so happy. I just can't hardly charge him for working on his computer, he's such a thoughtful guy.

Have a great day, guys.

Feels good, doesn't it Tom? I occasionally have the opportunity to bring a smile to someone's face when they ask me how much they owe me and I say, "Nothing, I was glad I could do it for you." They usually reciprocate with a small gift to show their appreciation but really, if they gave me nothing, I'd be alright with that. Sue does little things for people all the time. The other day she was at the Salvation Army Thrift Store an a few migrants were struggling to get some furniture they bought into and onto their little SUV. Sue said, "Would you like me to bring that home for you?" She was driving the van. When she dropped it off all three tried to hand her some money. She politely declined and said, "It's OK, it was on my way home anyway." Thank you lady, thank you. Sometimes it's just the little things that can change somebody's day for the better.
There is still hope. There is still a chance for all of us to save this mess this world has become. Maybe I'm a little too optimistic. That's why there is always hope. You can tell that Sue and I are gamblers. Always optimistic. Maybe the next hand, maybe the next scratch off, maybe the next pull .............. Maybe

Ya I made it......I think......831 miles yesterday through some of the most interesting terrain I can remember. If you ever get a chance to take I 82 out of Salt Lake north it would be worth your trip. My neck is sore from gawking around so much to see stuff. Mountain ranges and vast green valleys with all kinds of agriculture....I kept wanting to stop and ask what is that crop? Do you get any bugs in it......?

I did stop at Pendleton Oregon to see where all the blankets are made....not much of a town but the old factory was there cranking them out.....speaking of Oregon......speed limit 65 on Interstate after coming off the 80 mph of Utah and Wyoming and you cannot pump your own gas.....I stopped to fill up and some kid comes running out ....here I will do that for you....Naa kid I got it thanks anyway......No mister its the law I have to do that for you......say what? I stood about a foot from him while he filled QuickSilver.......they did not do the windows though....or vacuum it out like in the olden days....WTH.....Oregon is weird ......

Gotta go back to sleep now I am staying at Number 2's apt with her and her 50 lb cat.......the cat likes to sleep with me and its purring is like a Harley out on the highway.......the journey continues with a drive up to see Number 1 daughter today......about a hour north of here.....

Have a safe day Guru's........

ANOTHER NICE FALL DAY IN THE NATIONS THIS MORNING. THE CHEROKEES BASK IN THE FALL WEATHER.

AT THE BARBERSHOP YESTERDAY I MET A 92 YO PILOT WHO FLEW GLIDERS IN WWII, BIRDDOGS IN KOREA, AND HELICOPTERS IN VIET NAM. INTERESTING GUY TO LISTEN TO, TALKING TO NOT SO GOOD, HE'S EVEN DEAFER THAN I AM. HE STILL DRIVES; WHEN HE LEFT HE CAME BACK IN TO ASK IF I OWNED THE YELLOW CORVETTE PARKED OUT FRONT. HE LIKED THE BUMBLEBEE. THREE WARS AND NOT A SCRATCH. WITH THAT KIND OF LUCK I'D LIVE AT THE CASINO:-)

Just as soon as I get close to approaching my 3-year mark where an accident comes off my record one more happens. How people go three years or even longer with no scratches or dings amazes me.
Recently did a logo for a lady that used to work with me at the paper. She was an assistant editor, made an open comment about a politician that was negative - she ends up being right and lo and behold the same paper ran a story airing him out. However she lost her job. Go figure. She's trying to substitute teach and she also makes quilts. Made logos for her and her husband for what they do. She asked me what she owed me, told her not to worry about it as I understood her situation. Same paper let me and all my department go two weeks before Christmas in '09. She was one of them that 5 months before that got the recipe for my mamma's red velvet cake that was always made for my birthday and made it for me when mother passed away just a month before my birthday. When cleanout of mom's house, I found the stuff where she'd bought planning early on making it. Maria made it for me and brought it to work. Was a good way for me to do something nice in return for her.
C'mon gurus, let's get out there to that daily and make that paper! Unless of course you are the fortunate retied ones who get to DNBFS all day....
working on a Vietnam war design for a Harley Trike... this should be a real PITA those things are complicated.

Lovely morning today, all sunshine and blue skies. I decided to drive the little red car to work. It seemed to enjoy getting out. Last night I actually had time to wash it from the weekend so it looks somewhat presentable.

I still haven't had time to swap out the malfunctioning turn signal. Now it is intermittent. Have to get after it soon.

Tommy, although it sounded like this was a one time deal, in my computer work side, that type of response from me, is pretty common. A lot of my computer work is for older folks, older even then me.... and I very rarely charge them, telling them, "I didn't do much, I'll catch you next time." Sometimes they insist, so I'll tell them "How about five bucks?" Sometimes I get 'presents' from my clients, cookies, homemade candy and things like that.

One of my favorite things to do is stop and help stranded motorists. Not long ago, Rosie and I were coming home from Dodge City, in the Corvette, all dressed up, on the opposing shoulder was a lady and a younger girl standing by their car with a flat tire. As I whip by I see what was happening, and quickly turned around, pulling behind them I got out and the lady couldn't believe that I would change her tire for her, but I did. As she went to the car to get her purse and "pay me", "I don't want anything mam. It was my pleasure to help you. I jumped into the Corvette and took off. I waved real big to them as I turned around. She had a big smile and a look of disbelief on her face.

Another time Rosie and I were headed to her folks and we stopped for a quick burger, while in there eating we started talking to a lady that we noticed wearing a shirt from a town where I had a friend living. As we talked she knew my friend, so, when we came out she was standing by her car and it had a flat tire. I tried to change it, but the spare was flat. So I ran down the street to the service station and retrieved a guy to help her out. She got involved with him fixing her tire, so Rosie and I took off. About 6 months later I got a note from her thanking me for my help. She had forgotten who was my friend and when she ran into him one day she told him the story and my friend told her "Oh, that had to be Tom." So she got my address from him and sent me the thank you note.

Those kind of things are worth more to me than anything money could buy. You are right, Tommy, doing those things makes you feel on top of the world.

As far as my downs syndrome boy, I never charge him. I always come up with some way to get around it. His dad told me not long ago, "This time he owes you something", so I had to tell him, "Ten bucks"

Marcus, I hope you are taking pictures along the way.

WHAT ABOUT THOSE ROYALS! Central division Champs!
