It's a beautiful morning here in southwest Kansas. GS#1 and his GF will be leaving later to go back to Dallas. It's been great having them here this weekend.

Not much on the agenda today.

Greetings! A nice, sunny start to Memorial Day - I think this is the first sunny one in about 5 years. The down side to sun and warmth is the grass seems to like it, so mow I must. Having MIL over later this afternoon for a BBQ.

That picture says it all, Brian.

Make it a day of thanks, Gurus!

Last night I lost my faithful companion of 13 1/2 years. He was my dog, Oscar, a Brittany Spaniel. He got sick yesterday with very labored breathing. I took him to the vet and he had pneumonia. He was given all sorts of antibiotics and he died at home on the rug in front of my chair a few hours later. This poem by Gene Hill gives my feelings.

HE'S JUST MY DOG
He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea.
He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.)
When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded.
When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags.
Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful.
He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion.
With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant.
His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things.
He has promised to wait for me . . . whenever . . . wherever — in case I need him. And I expect I will — as I always have.
He is just my dog.

Don, I'm sorry for your loss. Healing comes in time but we will ALWAYS reflect on what a wonderful animal friend and companion we had.

Have to go back up to Mom's this week to pick up sonny-boy. I had the tires rotated and balanced this morning. I'll take it on a 500 mile test drive. If it shimmies again the next step is new rubber on all 4's . If it shimmies then I'll have to try a new set of wheels. If it shimmies after that I'll have to douse it with an accumulation of flammable liquids I have to dispose of then crush what remains with a backhoe. Sue took the red vette out yesterday and said it had no A/C. It had a low charge so I gave it a boost and all is well. Washed 3 of the cars and the heavens opened up as I was wiping them down. Geez ....... My brother passed away 10 years ago on May 22nd. I was reminded of that when I washed the 928. Wow. 10 years already. Sue went to a doctor's appointment this morning only to find she was a day early. Her appointment is tomorrow. Got 80% of the inside plywood up yesterday. Maybe going to get in there again a little later today. Gonna go see if I can get an oil change on my Yukon. Busy, busy, busy.

So sorry to hear about your dog, Don - a good friend of mine just had to put his down last week. Tough times - it's awfully quiet when they're gone.

Tommy, I snapped a few pics just so you'd know it's not so bad up here in the frozen tundra (the irises are just starting, so not much color in the garden yet):

Always loved your yard, Brad, especially in late Spring. ;)

Looks like you have plenty of space for at least 4 holes (golf).

Thank you all for your kind and caring comments. It does help. It's going to take some time to get over the loss. Every time I come in the house, I look over to his bed to see if he is there sleeping.

Nice yard Brad. Got a bit breezy this afternoon. We escorted GS#1 and GF over to the 'city' and fed them and filled his Caddy up with gas, before they headed out. They are still an hour and a half out from home, at this time. They are to let us know when they get home.

So sorry to hear about the dog, Don.

Don, this may sound silly but I'll say it anyway. The spirit of my dogs lives on. I see them where they were and in their favorite activities. I have a tree planted for both Precious and Black Jack. Where Black Jack lies I say hello to him frequently when I walk by. I remembered just the other day how Black Jack used to roll on his back while laying on the grass for me to rub his belly. Preshy was a daddy's girl. What they were to me is forever imprinted in my mind. They are a part of my being. I'm glad I was here for them and that they were here for me. Oscar lives on in your heart and mind ........... as it should be.

Don, sorry to hear about your dog. They become like kids, missed much when gone.
Beautiful yard Brad!
Speaking of beautiful, saw some pretty sandy beaches and sun this past week - Panama City beach today was the final stop for a great bday - drive home tomorrow - don't want to.
Tip of the hat to those who gave all for our benefit ...

Sorry about your dog Don. Nice yard Brad. Thank you for your service to all my fellow veterans who served and have paid the ultimate price. Parents came to visit and thankfully we had a nice weekend. The time off ends tomorrow when work calls.
