That is a cause I would actually donate to, if I though one of us could get their hands on it.

I've got a ten spot. Who's with me!?

My mother-in-law gave me the book "Corvette - Fifty Years" a while back, so I thought I'd take a look to see if these were mentioned (I've seen pics of the Sting Ray prototype before). Sure enough, there is a photo of one in the book - looks a bit different from this particular car, with what appears to be twin windscreens (the low, frameless variety), sidepipes coming out of those little recesses in the front fenders (instead of near the bottom), and only a single fin behind the driver.

This thread is "tongue in Cheek"...right? It looks like a custom gone bad.Who would let a prototype fall into that condition and in a barnyard no less.....I may be wrong, but it is up to 70k now!!!!???

I'm guessing that if you could make it look like this, you could sell it for a huge profit, buy an island and invite us all down for pina coladas:

damn. History? If that is the real deal, even in this condition, $120k is low ball.

That car is priceless. Restored, it's a million dollar car.

Take a good look at the tail lights. They are straight out of a 1963 or 64. Thats a c2 that was raped.

The windshield's not even close either. Must be an aborted kit car. I can't find a single pic of a Sting Ray (or an SS) with headers coming out there or the double hump.

I wouldn't pay $5K for it.

I qualified it with the words "if that is the real deal".

I reiterate, if it was the real deal... it's worth a mint.

a cobbled up bitsa isn't worth the space it takes up.

a closer look as me wonder what kinda bitsa this is.

The chassis number is 1958. No doubt about that. It is also a live rear axle car. IIRC, the race version had a de Dion rear axle.

The problem I have is that this was called the Stingray, not the SS.

The SS was the racer, was run at Sebring in 57 and didn't do very well. It was being built just as GM joined the AMA ban on autoracing, so it was never fully developed. Infact, Bill Mitchell paid out of pocket to race it.

I am sure the original Sting Ray is outlined in Zora's biography.

It should be noted that the design elements that Mitchell used for the C2 were gleened from an early 50s Alfa Romeo.

I would have loved to see a close-up of the fender badges.

$70,100.

That is a true handyman special. I can't believe the owner let it get in that condition.
