I don't have the pictures, I'm a little worn out, but had to mention a few things about the show today.

My favorite:
A red '68 427, 490HP, cragar mags. Very old school, and gorgeous. It is EXACTLY the car I'd wish for, done just how I would do it. I was drooling.

My least favorite was a tie:
A guy who had a C6 Z06, Atomic Orange. The car was great. The owner had an ego so big, I'm not quite sure how he fit it in the car with him. I couldn't run away from him fast enough.

And a GS with Lambo doors. My gosh, what some people will
do to a car.

Of interest to me:
I saw at least 2 C2s with TPI conversions. I saw a lot of TPI stuff. I was surprised the number of TPIs in different year Corvettes.

Oddity of the day:
A guy from Corvette Conspiracy in Cleveland was driving a '57 that looked like it came right out of the barn. Had traces of blue paint along with bare spots, cracked glass on the rear quarters, dirty slimy old 283, no door panels, rusted, falling apart trim. It was pitiful. The guy said it ran great, and he had no intention of doing anything to it. He enjoyed seeing people's reactions to the beast.

Cars shows are notorious (sorry Notorious) for people of all types. A few ego-maniacs, a few with artistic tendancies and a nut or two. I like watching the aformentioned lure new prey to their lair.

I like going to the shows and the people that are at them are half the fun. THere was a kid with a shortbed S10 at one. It had a s.b.c. in it and sounded really mean as it pulled in. It was a nice truck. It had metal 383 stroker badges on the fenders. I told him those were pretty cool to which he replied yeah it makes everyone think it has a 383. I made the mistake of looking at a Fiero with a 3800 V6 in it complete with supercharger and the owner the President of some Fiero club talked me to death. Nice guy and all but looking and hearing every detail about his Fiero build was a snooze.

I like the freaky cars of the show. Lambo doors, lighting, and all the customized (ricer in some peoples opinions) on exotic and American muscle cars.

I have to agree, at least a little. This show was Corvettes only, so I kind of missed the variety. I also missed the purple C4 with the blower sticking out of the hood and the purple shag carpet. Damn, it was homely, but really interesting.

The guy with the ratty old 57 Corvette had a point. We talked about that car as much as any that was there. I just can't imagine taking a car worth, what? $10k? $20k? In it's ratty condition and not touching it.

Don't get me wrong. It was something only a mother, (or in this case an owner), could love. But, it was unique. And that guy put some time into it. He liked it enough to put it in the show, so you had to give him his due.

I'm seeing a lot of these, too - does anybody know what the reason is? I can think of three possible ones:

1) Cheap - though if you have a C1 or C2 to cut up, you probably aren't hurting for money.

2) Easy - maybe the TPI's specific connections make it easier or maybe the engine upgrade is being combined with a C4 chassis upgrade (see 1) ).

3) Pretty - people always love the runners and you can paint or chrome the engine to good effect.
