It's not a panic but if I were you I would patiently drive to your local filling station and top it off before the prices shoot up. Supply lines will be disrupted as a result of our unwelcomed visitor Ike. That is all ......

There is an old tale of the hurricanes getting their start from the flapping of butterfly wings across the desert in Africa. Maybe the butterfies are getting bigger.

The wells were capped for hurricane Gustov two weeks ago.
Thats why crude oil is at record lows and gas is in short supply (can't get product to the refineries). The only refineries that are still running are the ones over 150 miles from the Texas gulf coast. The start-up of a shut down refinery takes two to four days. There is over sixty refineries shut down at the present time(7:35am). So, hurricane Ike has just prolonged the problem. 10:10am edit.. The RBOB (blended gasoline) current contract...$2.85 up .11 cents today. Thats a large one day move. |

They are already jumping here. It's still 3.57 on base but I've seen 3.99 for the low grade stuff on the way in this morning

Crude oil briefly breaks $100.00 per barrel, then comes back a bit ($100.23).

Ok, this is makeing things worse!!! Why fill up when you dont need to? Every time a big storm comes(which we know is coming for at least a few days) everyone rushes to the pump the day prior to it hitting which of course is causing the demand to go up and since the storm is coming the stations raise the price. So, why not just wait until the storm passes? I filled up 2 days ago and that should take me well into next week. Its just crazy the way people think and the way they dont prepair.

I missed the boat. Driving to work today gas was $3.95 and I was low, said no problem, I'll tank up on the way home. It had jumped to $4.19 by then. I found a station for $4.09 and put in a bit. This is crazy.

Buying gas before the price jump and before the shortage because of a hurricane is preparing. Believe me , I know. I'm a hurricane preparedness specialist. We didn't start the demand, or order up a hurricane. Standard proceedure for hurricane preparedness is, get plenty of fuel for your vehicles and generators to last several days to a week. Water, batteries, canned foods. This hurricane stuff should only last a few weeks but I'd rather have a stockpile than a shortage. Being in the military you sit on one of the biggest stockpiles in the world red_johnny.

I saw it up to $4.89 this past weekend in Pigeon Forge. Apparently many stations around Knoxville were pumped dry on Friday - I heard people were buying and filling all the 5 gallon tanks they could fit in their truck bed.
Still hovering around $4.00 up here. :angry1: |
