When we were kids, my brothers and I were prone to getting up early on weekends. After all, we didn't want to waste any part of a day that didn't require attendance at school!
Anyway, if we turned the TV on this might be the only thing on, on all three channels! But we were tough kids, we endured. We'd sit there and watch it while we waited for some quality, early morning programming to come on. You know like Gumby, or the central state farm report.

The old notorius "TEST PATTERN" used to adjust the picture clarity and vertical/horizontal positions. Later replaced by the vertical color bars as color tvs became more popular in homes.

Yeah, no. When I got up on Saturdays, it was to watch the Smurfs, not a test pattern.

Oh yes, I remember it well. My older sister talks about having to go to the neighbor's to watch TV, since they were the only ones on the block who had one. She also apparently had to walk 10 miles to school, uphill both ways.

Something about touching the face of God. Then The Star

I used to get up early to watch the Disney Cartoons. The ones too violent for TV today.

Adjustable televisions? WTF?

The only way to do that now is adjust them into the dumpster and adjust your butt over to Walmart for a new one.

I recongize many of those stations... also, it's interesting that how many tv stations were owned by newspapers.

I remember the test pattern. a few independant UHF channels used them in the early 70s...

I do remember seeing that test pattern. It was for channel 6 in Philadelphia. I think the first show to come on Saturday morning was Birdie the Bunyup. It was a puppet show, staring Birdie. I have no idea what a Bunyup is/was, kind of looked like a dog. His nemesis was Sir Guy T Guy.

Man, I am I old or what?
