I got the rotors turned at pep boys for $8 each and ordered some Hawk hps pads from tirerack. I don't know why everyone throws perfectly usable rotors away.

I like the Hawk ceramic pads I installed last year - almost no dust at all. Good choice for a DD. performancepeddler.com usually has some good prices on them.

Show me a set of warped OEM rotors and I'll show you $100. Break them in properly, and you won't notice 0.030" difference in thickness.
Rotorpros is just another ebay special made in China. Probably not an issue for a street car, but I'd rather let you be the guinea pig. |

I haven't seen $20 rotors for years! Autozone.com has only one listed for the rear at $68.99. How does a thinner rotor increase stopping distance???

It would have a tiny effect on heat capacity. You're probably shaving off about 5% of the mass. If your driving style depends on that last 5% of heat capacity, then you really have no business running duralast rotors either. Cheap rotors = core shift |

Actually a rotor with bad core shift will expand unevenly as it heats up and cause pedal pulsation and even jerk the steering wheel back and forth. Basically warping, but only while hot. Turning a rotor with core shift won't resolve that, in fact I think it would make it worse.
These parts run through so many middlemen and get rebranded that its impossible to know exactly what you're getting. You can at least open the box before you buy and visually check core shift though and casting quality in the vanes. It won't tell you anything about metallurgy, but its a start. |

I'm working on a few lawsuits where Chinese cast iron waste piping is causing problems. It's well documented that some of the foundries are putting out garbage quality pipes with porosity and cracks. They coat the inside of the pipes with a paint brush taped to a stick.
The problem is, the distributors don't even know where their overseas suppliers are getting it from, and the source can change at any time. Different sizes are made in different foundries too. After these products are UL/CE/ISO/IAPMO/WHI whatever certified for use, the QC goes unchecked. The only criteria after that is how cheaply can they be manufactured without getting their customers caught up in too many lawsuits for selling defective product. The end result is a product that's more difficult to install and has a shorter life. People are so obsessed with first-cost and quality products can't possibly compete with that. This further inflates the cost and reduces availability of the good stuff, which continually drives more people to buy garbage that they otherwise wouldn't. |
