Well here we go again. Looks I like we'll have to pass this cost of living increase on to the consumers of our products. Our living expenses go up so I'll just have to pass it along. They'll never notice a few cents here and a few cents there. Here's the real kick in the ass. The state charges 6 1/2 % sales tax on the packaged product meaning I have to pay a tax on the tax. Being from Boston I just love a good Tea Party. You guys might not like cigarettes but these tax hikes are only the beginning. Has our government learned anything from the past or are they doomed to repeat it. Don't answer that......... We are led by idiots and theives .......

Ours have gone up dramatically here in the Land of 10,000 Taxes, too. As soon as the smokers have been tapped out, they'll go after overweight people.

One reason I quit smoking (and went to snus) was the cost of a pack. I've got over being treated like a leper for smoking, but when it reached $5 a pack I needed to do something, so I switched.
NOW our loveable mis-guided overlords are working on a thing called the PACT act (it's already passed the house and is waiting for the senate). This would make it illegal to ship tobacco via the US postal service (and the other carriers such as UPS, DHL and FedEx have agreed not to ship as well). In Washington state, it is now a class C felony to ship tobacco. I wonder when Saint Oblahma will finally quit smoking.... |

At these prices, soon, weed will be cheaper than coffin nails. And I won't have to go as far to get it. It's already illegal to ship that by mail. I guess I could start looking for black market cigarettes. Hey...... Guido ... Hook me up .....

Maybe Obama wants to be more like us up here.Tax the everliving shit out of you. Check out our tobacco and alcohol
taxes, f**k me A review of cigarette prices across Canada suggests New Brunswick has the third-lowest prices in the country. According to the national not-for-profit group Non-Smokers' Rights Association, a carton of 200 cigarettes in New Brunswick costs $78.81, while a carton in Quebec costs $70.18 and $74.49 in Ontario. The same carton would cost $100.89 in Nova Scotia, $95.70 in Prince Edward Island and $92.93 in Newfoundland. The cost in Manitoba is $93.23, compared to $92.65 in Nunavut, $104.83 in the Northwest Territories, $91.12 in Saskatchewan, $90.55 in Alberta, $87.40 in British Columbia and $92.65 in Yukon. The federal excise duty is $17 per carton. |

Taken from the article
"Waldman said his father's death was caused by nearly 60 years of smoking. ''We buried him with a pack of cigarettes in his coffin,'' he recalled. ''I sponsored this with the sole purpose of trying to reduce teen smoking,'' he explained. ``The reason it passed is because of the financial situation the state is in now. I did it as a healthcare initiative.'' So he must have died around age 72. Seems like a long enough life to me if your living like you want. A short full life is better than a long dull one. Think how much money he saved medicare and insurance companies by dying at a decent age. |

Shouldn't I have the right to decide to quit and not be taxed into it? I didn't mind going outside for a smoke, I didn't mind not smoking if I was in a friends house or car - if I wanted one, I just stepped outside. If I was outside and I saw it bothered someone, I wasn't opposed to moving or even putting it out. So, WHY do the bleeding heart liberal jackasses feel the need to save me from myself? Now, I snus. I go into a resturant, I can snus. I go to a friends, I can snus. I go to a movie and enjoy my snus. One doesn't spit out the juice with snus, and to my knowledge no one has ever contracted a disease from second hand snus. All I want is for them to leave me and my snus alone!!!!!! I'M MOVING TO SWEEDEN! (they make the good snus there)..... |

I never was a smoker or chewer, but this has gone too far. The govt thinks they have a cash cow, well they are going to milk it dry and then where will they be. If you guys that smoke want to smoke or quit that should be your choice. It just stinks that the govt is involved at all...just like several other places they shouldn't be involved with.
Tommy, here in Kansas, there are about 10 "Tea Parties" scheduled for Saturday. |

I'll tell you where... smokers first. Then fat people. Then alcohol. Then those who don't excercise enough. Then those who don't eat right. And on and on. There's always another aspect of behavior to be controlled, and taxed and fined. |

I don't get it. When will people understand they are taking away are rights. Like said before if its not one thing it will be another, I smoked for ten years and quit, Not because the government made me because I wanted too. What will happen when the government starts on you old car emissions. Someone stated before its a nasty habit quit and you won't miss it. If the same was said about your old car stop driving it and you won't miss it. Would you feel the same way?

When someone says they quit a million times it usually means they didn't quit for long. I used to smoke. I had the willpower to quit.
It is great to not have stinky clothes. Your sense of taste will improve also. The extra tax may be just what some people need to quit. Others will not stop no matter what. I will now climb down from my soap box. |

I respect your position and your right to express it. Glad you were able to slay the beast and forego the burden plus save some money after you did it. It was common and legal when I started. It was also cheap. The three things I enjoyed in my youth were accessable and cheap. Booze, cigarettes and coffee. The use of the first two often prompted the need for the third. These are diferent times and social values have changed. Unfortunately for me I haven't changed much with the times. Or maybe that's fortunately for me I haven't changed much with the times. I'm still undecided about that one. |
