Well, Saturday sucked, more for a friend of mine and his brother than me. He call this week and told their machine shop was totaled in a fire. The did "save" some machines but those will need to be totally torn down and rebuilt. All the welding equipment, Tig, Plasma cutters,etc-gone.
They had hundreds of car manuals, 1940's & up-gone.

They had a lot of friends helping yesterday.
I spent 7 hours spraying oven cleaner and power washing machines down.

Insured loss or dreams up in smoke? Sorry to hear this. Either way, it still sucks.

I didn't even ask, just went to work. Obviously, no one was in a happy mood but everyone had a "grim determination" look on his face.

And these 2 guys are hard workers, they built the building themselves.
They'll do it again.

When bad things happen to good people hopefully the carma will come around and help them out!
What a shame to build a nice business and then have it burn up around you. I worked in a maching shop when I was younger and I know how expensive that stuff can be. Repairs will not be easy or possible either withought complete remanufacture of a lot of stuff. I wish them luck.

Luckly, one thing Steve does is restore machine tools. He did a ground up on an old tooling grinder that was junk when he got it and brand new when he finished.

A few of the machines like one of the Bridgeports I worked on came out rebuildable, all the slides and bearings feel Ok. But all the wiring, belts and anything plastic will need to be replaced.
Some of the other machines are toast including 5 welders.
