Wifey and I are returning home and during the drive, a little two seat Honda pulls in behind. Ya know the kind with blue headlights, hat on sideways, sucking on a cigarette....

Once the road opens up he starts the pass and I slowly squeeze the go pedal. Before too long we're cuttin 80 into the twisties. He's leading. Its a no brainer and he's holding a pretty decent line. After the rock store turn, (tighty-righty with a little off camber in the outside lane, marked down to 35mph) he cuts the apex from outside to inside and I hang tough on the outside and roll in more throttle to let him know there's so much more to go. The abrupt turn of his head tells me he didn't expect the challenge.

By now Wifey is making "those noises" wifeys make when your starting to have fun. So I back down remembering that only one CHP has been spotted and we know they run in twos.

A few minutes go by, the Honda was well outta sight. And we were cruising at legal +5 when I spotted a B/W pulling out of hiding well ahead of us. Yep there was number two, and within a few more minutes had our friend at the roadside.

As we drove by, I tooted the horn.

Was that mean? Wifey thought so.

I'm still laughing!!!

I had an experience two years ago in July in which a Honda nitrous/tubro charged /you name it he had it pulled up next to my wife and I in the Vette. While at the light he was revving this thing and popping the clutch drawing attention to himself. He was watching me not the light. I was in the turn lane and he was in the regular lane. I turned right he thought I was going to beat him off the line and accelerated right into a 1 ton Dodge Ram 4x4 that had the green light to turn left in front of him. Honda didn't fair well at all. Punk kid with his hat on funny was hurt when the air bags deployed. He was ticketed and taken to the hospital.
I kinda smiled thinking WTF was he thinking. My wife was probably thinking oh I hope his not hurt!

Sometimes I'll let out a little 'beep beep' when passing someone I see pulled over who was driving recklessly. I'm not tainting the driver however, in point of fact, I'm commending the officer for pulling over someone who might otherwise have injured themselves or someone else with their out of control driving.

What is it about an old guy (us) in a corvette that makes these young punks think there peice of rice burning crap can possibly keep up with any corvette? It seems the only ones ever to feel challenged by my vette are those pimply faced, sideways hatted little s.o.b.s. They drive like idiots on the road, but they never show up at the autocross or the drag strip to be properly schooled. So frustrating! On the road I'm usually content to give a little throotle just to egg 'em on and then back off in hopes that they will run into our ever present constabulary, or better yet, blow through a posted radar camera red light. The best revenge is a $300 ticket in the mail!

I like to stare 'em down and just smile. I did that for two redlights to one of those kids. At the next light he yelled "Come On". I replied " How about 5 laps at the Fernley track, either car for $1,000?" He didn't have anything else to say.

Steve, come over on June 5th and run hard at the track with us, no CHP or NHP to worry about.

I always put our track event flyers on their windshields when I see them in parking lots (usually at the mall ).

Strange that they never show up.

Well...except the EVO's. But those cars are actually fast.

That was a time when most of the male population spent time in far away places and saw some of the worst atrocities of mankind. An ass kicking would be a light punishment. They lost buddies and brothers in the wars/conflicts. Some were POWs. I've met many and shared some of their stories. After surviving what some of them went through, you could see why they wouldn't take any shit from anybody. Today, your looking at jail time, loss of income/benefits and a host of other negatives if you so much as lay a finger on anybody.

Here I go drifting off topic again ....

Time out! back in the day was the time it took to recover from an ass kicking from dad or neighbors dad's. Your right! now it would be child abuse, lawyers involved, police, child protection etc. No wonder our kids are screwed up!!

Quick question.
Did anybody as a teen used to peel out trying to impress the ladies? We all know how much teenage girls just love a guy that can smoke his tires. Right?

Yeah back then it was all about seeing how much rubber you could lay down especially coming out of the school parking lot. It helped that it was a gravel lot to get things going. I tried it once in my old mans Rambler but I didn't get on the gravel enough and screwed up releasing the clutch and killed the motor. Yeah, I was cool! Upper class guys all waiting in line had a hayday with me for that one and the chicks didn't know I existed.

I did get back later when the old man bought a 64 Dodge with a 383 and a torque flite. That car did not need any gravel to get the 7.75 X 15's rolling. Fun stuff!

I grew up in Boston. Droves of kids hanging around on street corners would yell for you to "peel out" to see how much rubber you could leave on the roadway. Nothing like seeing a group of chicks hanging out. Great time to check out your throttle response. Actually, the smart thing to do was to pull over and try to charm the pants off them. That was never one of my strong suits. I let my buddies do the talkin and man could they talk some crap. I was one of the nice guys then. Found out why nice guys always finish last.

I teach at my old high school. Kids today have no clue about torque and horsepower in their little Hondas and Toyotas.

I had a 61 Chevy 409 Impala Conv/4sp. in 1967. The dumbass gene kicked in on the last day of school as a senior. With six big guys in the car I reved the Chevy in front the school and dumped the clutch and threw the driveshaft across the street. Real fricking cool! My high school buds to this day never let me forget that stellar moment.

My buddy Jay in his 67 GTO thought he would wake up the cops at the local sub-station by burning out in front of the police station. He lost control of it and ended up on the sidewalk in front of the police station stalled out. They came running out. He told them his accelerator got stuck. (Way before Toyota) He just started it up and gently drove away. Buddies never forget.

I wish I had that beast back! This thing was bad ass in its day. Worked at a Chevy Dealership when I wasn't involved with sports. Bought a 58 Corvette for 1200. in 1966 and the Impala for 750. in 1965. I thought the 409 was fast, my dad had a 1964 Thunderbolt Fairlane. He wouldn't let me drive it!!! Sold both cars before going to Vietnam.

The old accelerator got stuck trick. Never worked for me!!
