Hi, My name is Letty...
I don't have tools - well very many anyway - and I like them clean, organized and wiped off after use.
However, the nice or decent things I did have including work benches were all given to my ex. The 6-foot tall blue Craftsman cabinet went to another ex. One day I hope to become rich, have a wealthy sugar daddy, have a nice little house with a nice garage complete with racing inspired paint on the walls, nice floors with the pretty speckles in them that stuff wipes up off of easily, a lift, drain, diamond plate front cabinets with stereo and fridge and a bar and huge tv....

So I was at Sears today to pick up my master rethreader set. This is why Sears pisses me off. Price online: 49.99. Sale price online: 44.99. Price in store: 57.99, not on sale. They won't price match at the register. So you sit down at a computer in the store, order it online, pay for it with a cc, select "pick up at store" and then go to the service counter and get it. What a waste. How about not wasting my time and just price matching at the register. The sales guy even said it was stupid but that's their policy.

Regardless, I picked up this:

Craftsman 40 pc. Tap and Die Set, Master Rethreader
Sold by Sears Sears Item# 00952105000 | Model# 52105

Resized Image

While I was there, I noticed they also had a sale on deep impact sockets. Normal price $90, on sale for $45. That's a heck of a deal in my book, so I bought one of each:

Craftsman 12-PC IMPACT SOCKET SET
Sold by Sears Sears Item# 00915887000 | Model# 15887

Resized Image

Craftsman 12-PC IMPACT SOCKET SET
Sold by Sears Sears Item# 00915886000 | Model# 15886

Resized Image

Apparently I should have joined the Sears "Craftsman Club" online because I would have saved an extra $5 on each socket set. I'll have to do that.

I was doing well until I was going through Tool envy.
Yesterday some fool puts Tool time on this site . Nothing like this should be on a site to help reform toolaholics.
This isn't right having a site for guys that can't stop buy especially when they are on sale.

Harbor Freight Had the 21 gallon air compressor on sale for $179. They had one in side open box for $140. As I was checking out the compressor the clerd had to do an over ride on the sales. The manager came in to put the lower price in and looked at me and said lets make it an even $100. Grabbed that baby went to my sons house He has all my air tools and tried it out. Works great.

If you need impacts, the HF ones are ok for really light work, but I've broken 3 of them recently on nuts that were really torqued down tight. That's why I bought the better set.

PS - we won't hold it against you if you give in to temptation.

The price was a Seller all right.

I recently bought a set of Milwaukee M18 cordless impacts 1/2 inch, 3/8 inch and their drill.. I also have 3 batteries, a light and a charger all less then what snapon wanted for their 1/2 cordless impact by it's self with a battery and charger..

We have a set like that at the shop for re-threading.. I also bought one for spindles which worked really well for me on an old C3 I needed to clean the threads up on...

I also recently bought a Upper control arm press of e-bay (new) haven't used it yet but I know I will at some point, I'd like to do the upper control arm bushings on the nova next year.. there not really loose, but the rubber is coming out of them so they need to go....

Is that the 3/4-10 (IIRC) die, Rick? I have one but it took some digging to find one for a decent price.

I'd like to see the control arm tool. I just did the upper & lower ones on the C2 with a press (had to fab a piece to prevent the arm ends from getting squeezed together).

Well it happened again. I sold my swamp cooler $500. Suddenly I was over come with the desire to buy tools. My wallet was almost on fire.

I was not at HF but walking around Lowes and I was in the air tool section. In front of me was a 1/2" air impact Kobalt. $25. It screamed at me "I am cheep buy me" cheep, but to me is it a good one? I thought for about 2 more seconds and said what the hell and bought it.

Is this an ok tool or did I buy crap again?

These confessions are harder then going to church.
But I am addicted to tools

No experience with the Kobalt air tools, but the hand tools I've used are pretty decent. You'll have to give us a review.

On another note, I finally got my scanner. Even better than I thought, it's actually a Tech 1A. Nice. It also includes the standard cable as well as the OBDII adapter cable. Mass data cartridge (unknown what updates yet), a powertrain cartridge (says 94 on it), voltage probe, case, manual, all in very good condition. It looks like I might have to buy an E pin adapter for my car, but that's about it. Very pleased.

Holy heck. Ever see a tool and you just have to have it? Found one today. This is what my buddy has at his shop to do all the voltage testing, etc. You hook it to the battery, can apply voltage, ground, test circuits, etc. Awesome. I HAVE to have it. I just can't afford it for a toy for no reason...lol. Check it out. It's called the Power Probe III.

Just watched my buddy make three -8 braided hoses for me in 20 minutes. That would have taken me hours and included many bloody fingers from the stupid steel "hairs" that stick ya.

So as of this week I own AN vise inserts, hose cutters (the bandsaw sometimes tears them up), another set of AN wrenches, and the lube. It was a good idea to buy them all now, since I'm all done making all the lines for the motor swap. But you know, the next time will be easy.

Hey Jon, my buddy gave me a bunch of left over braided fittings, hoses, etc. They are various sizes and whatnot. Does that interest you at all? I just kept them in case anyone else needed them. I can take some photos tomorrow.

The ONLY way to assemble AN hoses is with Koul Tools, once you use them, every other method seems insane.

Recently I found myself needing a small drill press (and have needed one many times in the past) so I set out to find one. This is my newest CL find. $20 for an 80s? vintage table top imported drill press. Certainly not a Delta, etc, but for $20 it will do the job. It's actually pretty heavy duty, weighs 38 lbs when I put it on the scale. 1/5 horsepower, various rpms up to 3000 by adjusting the top belt. Top head swivels, work plate is adjustable up and down. It's a Target Industries brand, made in Taiwan. Overall not bad. I doubt I can get parts for it other than the motor, but that's ok with me.

$3400 is ridiculous. I think the snap on, mac, matco boxes are ridiculous, too.

On a side note I bought a set of two HF long handle needle nose pliers for $8 the other day....lol. Certainly not the snap on ones I saw and liked, but those were $56 a piece

U bet your ass. It's a sheet metal box with sliding drawers.

Craig's list is full of Snap-On boxes that nobody can sell for a quarter of what they paid for them.

Speakin' of HF....I got a pressurized sand blaster yesterday for $59.

I picked this kit up at Fastenal the other day for $238. Don't know how good that was but they are 18V Lithium and they work nice.....

Forgot about this thread... Used a little of my tax return and bought this AHP Alpha TIG 200DX to use at home and keep my skills up.

If your going to weld and fabricate race car stuff I highly recommend TIG.

This is really good machine for home use. Dual 120v/240v input capability, AC/DC output with tons of features like pulse and spark control, progressive pedal and finger tip start controls, Weldcraft WP18 torch.... Nice stable arc.

The cart I got from HF. Awesome piece for the money as well.... also picked up a little HF mini bench grinder and diamond wheels just to sharpen tungsten without contamination

Now to find a cheap stainless table/work bench for welding/fabrication use. Seen a few on ebay that are the right size.

I'm really going to enjoy having this around the house.

Wow - that's nice Will!

Marcus - looks like a nice set. The LiIon stuff is way better than the older nicad batteries.

I just picked up a used snap on TF5 double flaring tool on fleabay along with some gearwrench stubby flex wrenches. They look like this (from google):

Hey Marcus, if I didn't know any better I would guess that's a scraper on your bench there

Since we are back on this thread...I used this set today to fix something. Comes in handy for long bolts, etc. Plus it's convenient to carry all the sockets in one compact little case. Works pretty well. You can pick them up pretty cheap overall, about $30.

I bought an oil pressure test gauge and a can of guide coat today.

Does that count?

Finally bought a "good" multimeter instead of the cheap $10 ones. I hope this will help with more accurate electrical diagnosis.

So I was sick of having mixed sockets, so I took the plunge and ordered a couple new sets in 1/4" and 3/8". I didn't get a new 1/2" set because I don't use those too often.

I already have some GW ratcheting wrenches that are nice quality. These seem very nice, as well.

I bought the std. & metric sets a couple years ago at Sears's Christmas sale for $19.99. Never seen them priced this low.

I really like them.

New to me used set of Mac pliers. I have already used a few of the specialty ones that were very useful.
