Worked on the garage yesterday, That is the biggest compliance issue we have with the house and of course, one of the main reasons I wanted this house. My wife went to the Depot to pick up some supplies. She calls me about the size of a missing door that leads from the utility room to the garage. Let mr say that hanging a door was in no way, shape or form part of my plans for the day. After hanging trim and patching some big holes she starts prodding to get the door hung. I can't complain too much. She chiseled and cleaned out two hinge slots on the door. (Said I was going too slow). The door is almost ready to hang. She bought a 36" door as I told her that was the dimension. The door is exactly 36 and the frame is like 35 and 15/16ths which means I have to either lose 1/4 inch on the door or a 1/4 inch on the frame. I think today I'm gonna cut away 1/4 inch off the frame. Looks like the best and most forgiving approach. I have to move the lock slot 1/4 inch down too so it will kill two birds. Gutters go back up today around 09:00. Had to take them down to redo the roof. Luckily. I believe we'll be able to reuse them with some slight adjustments. No more big money projects planned. No more big money. That's OK. I still have plenty of little money stuff laying around that needs attention. Make something happen, or in BillH's case ...... don't.

Good Morning CGs!

Started raining yesterday and that made me mad. I haven't had a chance to get the pool cover on yet and I already dumped all the chemicals in. Luckily it was a light rain most of the day. Got home and dumped an extra bottle of shock in and put the cover on. Glad I did because it rained all night long and a lot harder. Rain water really messes up the chemical balances in the pool.

I had a tough time getting up today. Rugrat #2 is still having a hard time sleeping from his congestion/cold. I was about 49% ready to call in sick, but I'll make it.

How was everyone's weekend?

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

OK - Shower is out of the way and ready to take the day. I'm off for the next day or so until HR at the new job gets paperwork in order etc. I have to go do a pee test in a little bit. So, since the weather is nice out this morning I will combine that task with a little Corvette driving fun.

Then, I still have a hundred little things I need to get done. I never did get the garage done this weekend. The football game got in the way yesterday. Redskins won, but it was ugly as sin.

Howdy! My neck is still messed up, so today's golf tournament will be an adventure. I don't have a pee test, but I practiced anyway. The Viqueens suck.

Enjoy your day, all!

@Brad....at least your Gophers won......
@Matt.....way to tough it out big guy!
@Don....don't miss the little cup and wait untill mid stream to.......nevermind!
@Tommy....is it a wood door? Wouldn't it be easier to just plane of a 1/4" off the door?.....or not.

Let's git er done boys....and let's be careful out there.

It's easier to cut the door but since you have to move the lock you're right, why do two jobs.

Bout 3 years ago, I changed all the interior doors from slab sided to raised panel. Not ONE of the frames took a standard size. Guess the cheapo contractors used cheapo frame & door combos that were made by an idiot manufacturer that measured in metric.
And you can't cut more that 1/4 inch off a raised panel without making it look off center.

Yea, Marcus, that was one in the middle of the roof where tha stacks are.
This one's at the garage window. The water that came in splashed my lathe and put some rust spots on it, wizzed me off.

I know what's going on, the tar paper under the roof is going away. But, for now, this is the only leak.

Damn if I'm going to pay to put a new roof on, I have a C2 to build.

After the pee test this morning I decided to go ahead and get the Corvette Emissions tested. I had applied for a waver three times and they gave me a deadline of October 1st.

It passed with flying colors. They did a visual with the mirrors and a tailpipe sniffer. The dude running the test almost fell over when I told him the car had 164k miles.
This is another milestone in the building process. Last goals will be a good chassis dyno and a drag strip run. Then I can say it is done.

Yesterday was a fun day at the track and watching the Falcons-Eagles game. Today was back to working on the engine swing. Good news is all the cleaning is done and only have to switch the knock sensors from old to new and then it is ready to start putting it back together. Bad news is trying to get the knock sensors out of the old engine -wtf!

Yea, I bought this house mainly because of the view.

Another day in paradise here in the Windy City. Cloudy and damp here today, but fairly warm. We're forecast to have a nice week ahead though.

This past Saturday, we took the Vette out on one of the nicest cruises we've been on since buying the car. It was my birthday, and I really had a taste for the "Thresher's Dinner" at Amish Acres in Nappannee, IN (http://www.amishacres.com/DW_WEBSITE/family_style_dining.php). Nappannee had their Apple Festival going on, and also had a nice car/airplane show at the local airport which we went and checked out.

By far, my favorite Corvette there was this '62:

Resized Image

Exactly 30 model years older than mine, with the same color scheme.

It was an absolutely spectacular day, and the drive through the countryside was amazing. Saw a number of trees begining to change colors on the drive out though.

Sigh...

Well, ripped up tiles on the roof- No evidence of a leak.

Went up into ther dusty, hot attic.- No evidence of a leak.
At least I didn't put my foot thru thr ceiling drywall.

Pulled the plywood off the eves and crawled up into them (with all the roofing nails poking me in the back). I can see some evidence of water marks at the bottom of the wall (at the top of the garage window) but can't see that it's running down any studs.

Freekin' houses.

Afternoon guys.....it has been a really busy day. Faculty meeting this morning, then lunch and then I went to a Dr. appointment for my bum knee. BIL (who is a Physical Therapist) looked at it Labor day and told me that I should find time to have it replaced. So I thought I ought to go and get a Dr. opinion. The verdict is...I need a total knee replacement, the problem is, they really don't like to do it until you get to 60, *if possible*. I was ready to set up surgery for next summer, but they want to try steroids first to see if we can get another year or two...Hey, I'm all for putting this off, so I got a steroid injection. Kind of hurt a little at first, but right now it feels way better, we'll see how this works.

Funny thing is under normal conditions my knee doesn't give me any pain. But even my wife could tell this summer that I was having more problems doing the normal things, so I know I'm getting to the point where have to do something.

Weather here was nice today and we have tonight and next Monday for the last two Men's night at the golf course, so I'm looking forward playing tonight.

Just catching up on the last three chats. Missed some good stuff.

Don, I like a few FLying dog brews. Try Raging Bitch. Very tasty and has an amusing title

All of my recent Corvette projects have been solved. There are 5 running 'vettes in my life now. I will go update the various posts with the solutions for those that were helping.

Went to Mid-Ohio today, rained all day. Put the rains on only to find out that the rears no longer clear my calipers. Oops. Put the slicks back on but they are like ice skates with standing water. I got passed by a Volkswagen. Of course he had AWD, street tires and stability control helping him.

Amusing video to follow.

Tom, I suggest vicodin therapy. You'll still have a bum knee but you won't give a shit. In retrospect, cutting the door would have been easier but the job is done none the less.. It was coming along nice and neat at my pace then the task master got involved. Have a little cosmetic work to perform on the frame but the door works. Did it with two power saws and a chizel. The gutters we took down for the new roof we were able to salvage and put back up. 8 hours labor and about $125 for 5 new inside and outside corners, gutter screws, gutter caulk and a box of machine screws. So total take down and put up of the gutters cost us about $385. ($260 labor for my helper). Can't do everything ourselves. Wifey has to work sometimes. Putting a dent in it one day at a time.
Tomorrow ... plant delivery day.
