Good Morning CGs!

Tommy, I have to go to the post office as well this morning. But I use a little one near where I work that opens at 8:30 and isn't busy when they first open. So get there right at opening time and I'm never more than 3rd in line.

Chilly here today. They are talking about snow showers possible. Nothing like Minneapolis where they say they are expecting 7-8 inches. Yikes. Mojo to Brad and hope he doesn't get hammered too bad.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Ullaakkut.

Howdy! Looks like we got around a foot of snow total, but only about another inch after I blew out the driveway last night. The plow hadn't come yet when I left for work, so I'll have that to look forward to when I get home. I left about 20 minutes early this morning, but the commute only took about 5 minutes longer than usual. I must've gotten up earlier than some of the morons, anyway.

Keep warm, Gurus!

Sheesh, it is cold down there in the heartland! The weather terrorists were predicting a high of 7 today, but my car thermometer read a balmy 13 on the way in. Practically tropical! Regardless, I have decided that the heated steering wheel is definitely one of mankind's greatest inventions.

OK, here at school the MS class done for this morning and waiting for the first high school bunch. It's all the way up to 3* now. Brad, it's "warmer" up there because you probably have some cloud cover, we are clear as a bell here. I wish we could have gotten some of that snow. Marcus, you're right, those plastic scrapers suck. I have an old one that has a brass blade that works pretty darn good.

Well, it really beginning to warm up now the thermometer just moved up to 4.

I sure hope this freezing weather creates a little ice on the polar cap. It's rather warm and humid here today. Warm enough to break a sweat with little exertion even in my shorts and a t-shirt.

USPS rant. My meds were mailed on 11/28/12. I was with Medco and they used to ship out of Tampa. Express Scripts took them over so now my meds were mailed out of Maryland. I had enough to last about 10 days. They get to my post office on the 6th. Say they sent them out for delivery on the 7th. Check my mailbox. No meds. On the 8th I see the mail lady drive by about 5 minutes after my delivery. I check my mailbox and all I have is a HOT ROD magazine. . I jump in my Yukon and chase her down on the route. Ask her if she has my meds. She says if she had them she would have put them in my mailbox. I go to USPS com Track and Confirm on Sunday and it says they we're delivered on 12/8/12. REALLY? So today I went to the Post Office at 08:00 so I could catch the carrier before they went out. The clerk looks around , no package, the carrier says if she had it she delivered it. I said I wanted to talk to a postal supervisor or the Postmaster. After 15 minutes the window clerk says she'll go check to see what the hold up is. They say they'll be right out. I wait another 15 minutes. Another clerk says they'd go check. Then the Postmaster comes out and says,I didn't know anybody was waiting for me. What a friggin circus. If I get pissed and start yelling and screaming they'll just ask me to leave so calmly, I explained my problem. She gave me the number to the Office of the Inspector General here in Miami. We're talking about $500 of missing medication here. Of course in terms of losses this is small potatoes. Nobody really gives a $#!+ about it but me. Express scipts will send me out a new order by Next Day UPS but they need 48 hours to process. So if I'm lucky I'll have it by the end of the week. I'm still on the hook for both orders at $25.20 each. That's my cost after insurance. As a retired postal employee I've seen it all and heard it all, so when it all comes down to it, all I can expect is a truckload of . That, I know, the USPS can deliver.

We will now return you to your regular program.

I'll be addressing my formal complaint in writing to the Office of the Inspector General, Miami with a cc to the Postmaster, Miami and Postmaster, Homestead. What better a way to improve customer service than to put your situation in writing. You get more action if you create a paper trail. Having been in customer service for over 22 years I know the best way to address an issue. Follow the leadership trail all the way to the top, then watch it flow back downhill again.

The cheapest way I can get my meds is mail order. Never had a problem before. Guess there's always a first time.

Mail in prescriptions, ARGH !

We have Express Scripts here at work. If you are on a "maintenance drug" you MUST use the mail in option. Even if you can get it cheaper at the local pharmacy. For formulary listed drugs we pay $80. The company is looking out for the employees, yeah right.

I got tired of thinking about it and threw it in the truck.

I'm joking. I saw some display models that Best Buy were selling back when I was TV hunting. I ended up buying a 51" Samsung plasma for $634 from HH Gregg. They're even cheaper now. I saw them for $499. The display models were only $100 to $150 cheaper than new. No way would I risk a display model with all the hours racked up in such a short amount of time.

In other news.

We picked the pig for the party today. Went out to a farm and checked out the selection. It's the first time I ever did that. We usually buy a frozen pig shipped in to the grocery store. We picked it, they marked it. They'll slaughter and clean it and have it ready on the 23rd. Didn't think I could look the pig we were going to eat in the eye but I did it. They were all so happy and playful. They're all in for a big surprise. Fresh is $1.70 a pound. The frozen is usually $.99 a pound. An aquaintance of mine swears the fresh pig tastes a lot better, not that a frozen one tastes that bad. I could never work in a slaughter house. Just don't have it me. I'm not much of a hunter either. Fishing is another story.

Next on the agenda

My medication shipment showed up today with "Delivered to wrong adddress." and an arrow pointing to the street with "Please Redeliver" written on the address label. The main thing is I got it. There is really nothing too exciting in there . Just blood pressure meds. That stuff would never make it to the party circuit. Thanks to the honest home owner that saw it fit to put it back in the mail stream.

Just another exciting day winding down. Now I'm hungry.

The Samsung plamsa's have a good rep. And I found out that "they use more power" amounts to $30-$50 per year.

The Samsung LED just like this one is + $800 to what I paid.

If you got a good deal, more power to you David. I buy screatch and dent appliances but TVs are different to me. At least you get them under warranty so if something goes you can get it fixed for the time period. I'm thinking about the longevity though. I got 7 years out of my last plasma. 2 years more than the extended warranty I bought I have a 5 year warranty on the current one too. They come to the house and fix it or give me a voucher for a similar replacement if not repairable.

This one's a 60 inch, I wanted a 55 which would have fit the place I put it a bit better.

But Vizio's just coming out with new models (E series).

The only "E" they have in 55 is 3D and at least $100 more.
I didn't want 3D since I don't do many movies.
I would have liked it if they had this one without the "smart" stuff at a few hindred cheaper. But I'm going to try and hook it to the internet now, hell maybe I'll like it.

I should get a wifi setup, though.

Used to feel like an oven standing in the plasma tv section. I find it amusing people could be concerned about saving energy whilst sitting on their ass veging in front of the TV all day.

I bought my dad a refurb Samsung 40" lcd and it shit the bed after about 4 years. My mother happened to buy the same exact TV and it's going on 5 years. She probably never watches TV though.

At the time they seemed to have the best picture quality and features in their $1K price range.

I got her a satellite radio for xmas. She lives in the boonies and doesn't want to pay for cable, and internet is available otherwise only over modem, and basically has only enough connection speed to drive you insane thinking it might actually load the page.

So now she can listen to her nascar races on the satellite radio. Sadly it was the cheapest option to accomplish that, for $200 in equipment and $15/mo subscription.
Sigh.

The sound quality is amazingly disappointing on satellite too. It's about equivalent to AM, sounds like it's underwater on most stations on their own desktop radio, and sounds even worse when connected to the car stereo aux input.

I'll be surprised if they're in business 5 years from now with all the streaming options.
