How much do you want to spend? The new lithium powered ones are nice, but pricey. And I am referring to the good quality ones like Makita and Dewalt, etc.

Saw a $79 price on TV for a Ryobi but the commercial went off before I could see where, probably HomeD.

Personally, I don't like Makita at all.

I'd like to get a Dewalt or Milwaukee. I have some dewalt corded stuff. But their cordless drills are just too much $$$ for what you get.

I currently have a Ryobi 18v, paid $49 for it with 2 batteries, had the batteries rebuilt once for $50.
It lasted for over 15 years including putting all the siding on the house.

I've been waiting for the Ryobi lithium to come down, they were %129 last year then dropped to $99.
If they are down to $79 (only one battery), I'll be getting one soon.

I have a Makita battery powered small circ saw and drill that I've had for asbout 15 years . The original batteries went south after about 9 years. I bought two new batteries on ebay for around $30 a piece. The Makita has really served me well. I'm not trying to change your mind Bill. I'm just saying that for me there has been no problems. My wife bought me one of those mini combo packs with the short circular batteries about a decade ago. I should go look at the make. I hate that thing so much that I think I may have used it only once. The batteries sucked bigtime. Fortunately, battery technology has improved by leaps and bounds.

That's OK.

My experience with them is all on their older ones. Their chucks wore out pretty fast.

But my big complaint with them was that while all the outer drills has the reversing switch on the pistol grip where you could use it with your thumb while holding the drill in one hand, Makita had a slide switch in the back that took 2 hands to use, it was just dumb.

I haven't even seen a newer Makita......so I really don't know.

I've been happy with my Ryobi's - hard to beat for the price, I think. I wore one out after a lot of abuse over the years, and bought another. I have the lithium batteries and they seem to perform much better than the old ones.

I only have one Dewalt tool - a job-site table saw. It cost a bit more than I was planning to spend, but I really like it. It got a pretty good workout when I was finishing off my deck, and I've used it for a couple other little projects as well. Cuts like buttah.

At least.

My old Ryobi was 18v NiCad.

I'd say whatever you choose - get lithium and at least 18v.

I might even get the one in my link today.

FYI, a Milwaukee 18v lithium with one battery is $169

Which is why I'm getting a Ryobi.

OK, Marcus, here's what I use and own. I still have my very first cordless drill which I bought in 1988. Makita 9.6v (2 of them). They have served well I actually need some new batteries for them and I don't use them much because they don't have much power. I owned 3 Porter Cable 14.4v units, I love them good power to weight ratio, but all my batteries are dead. I own a couple 18v Ridgid (Li) drills/drivers. They have good power, but weigh a lot more than my PCs, they have the lifetime warranty on them. I own two Dewalt 18v (NiCad), these were reasonably priced and serve me well. At school we have/had PCs and Dewalt. PCs were 14.4 (like mine at home), one Dewalt 14.4 NiCad and one 12v Li

With all that said, here's my recommendations.

Stay away from the Ridgid. The lifetime warranty is a PITA to try and collect on. You must take it to an authorized service location, you must have all the components (drill, charger, batteries) with the one that doesn't work and it takes way longer than it should to get it fixed. I've got two dead batteries...again and I need to take it back to KC to get it fixed.

Porter-Cable is my choice but in all honesty the Quality of these tools has declined dramatically since Black and Decker bought them. Consumer line products now, not professional.

Dewalt are the mainstream. Black and Decker has made Dewalt the professional line they sell. I really like the 12v Li set that I got here at school. More powerful than I really anticipated. The local guy where I bought it told me I'd like it and if I didn't he'd take it back...I still have it. I'd like to try the 20v version of the same. At home the 18v NiCads serve me well. I have 6 batteries for the two drills and the impact driver.

Thanks Tom....I have had my Dewalt for ever and really like it but the battery's are about shot and I thought it might be time for an upgrade. I saw someone using a nice small drill awhile back and thought that was the ticket but did not ask what it was. Are Milwaukee's still a good tool?

Milwuakee, bought out by Ryobi a few years back. Not the same quality. If it was a small drill they were using, then it could have been the 12v Dewalt I have here at school. I'm impressed with the quality and performance of that little drill.

This should be the Tool chat for the day.

I have Ryobi cordless set with the 18Li. They make to versions of the 18V battery. The extended life ones are well worth getting.

Well, that's a toss up.

I got the 18v batteries replaced at Batteries+ @ $50 or so 10 years ago, probably costs a good bit more now.

For the same price, I could have bought a new drill.

And those batteries didn't hold a charge quite as long as the originals. They did last a good 7+ years though.

Yea, and PC's are going to force us to drop "Nail Gun" and replace it with "Nail Applicator".

But the ammo will still be scarce.

I have had a smaller makita (maybe 9.6v) for 15 years that has served me well. I also have a 10ish year old rigid 12.4v (?) that is tough, but one battery is dead. For Christmas I got a new Craftsman drill with a standard battery that seems to work well but I've only used it a few times.

If I ever got the cash I would get the lithium 18v+ makita or dewalt. No more ryobi junk for me.

I dont' know what mine is - it's orange and black, came with a flashlight and a nice little case to put it in, think that's red. I asked for it for my last birthday and got just what I wanted and it's an 18v. Has torque settings, don't use 'em as I just piddle with my stuff around the house but it's cool and I like it

Another beautiful day here today, have the top down on the Vette so I can get up occasionally from my desk and look out the window at it. I'm caught up and bored but have sent through enough that the boss and his two installers are running around like crazy people. And getting on my nerves.

Mmmm....orange and black....that's Harley colors...nice!

Milwaukee, Makita or Dewalt... and if cordless get 18V.

Personally I prefer Milwaukee when it comes to elect tools.... I've been slowly replacing everything elect I own with either Makita or Milwaukee and have been really happy with the quality of even the newest mfgr stuff from both. I have a 1yr old Milwaukee elect impact wrench that is one bad MOFO....

Seems like cordless stuff is changing all the time and your out dated as soon as you bring it home and unbox it. I prefer to just get out the extension cord.... the tools last forever, are plenty powerful and no batteries to wear down/re-charge.

About 4-5yrs ago Elsie bought me a B&D 18v cordless combo set (drill, mini circular saw, light) for Christmas. Typical big box store, occasional home owner stuff. Shortly after I got it, we found out they don't make it anymore. You can't buy new/extra batteries... the stuff works OK small repairs around the house but the chuck on the drill totally sucks and the batteries are now getting to where they don't last very long, espc on the circular saw.... Pretty soon I'm going to have to trash the B&D stuff and buy something expensive....

Do you guys brush out and vacuum the the fender areas before you attach mudflaps? I guess you don't really have to. It's gonna get dirty anyway.
