Good morning gang.

Should be ok today. Temps in the mid 20's to mid 30's with a good chance of snow later today. Not much though about and inch or two.

Word of the day is sternutation.

Today is NATIONAL MAKE A FRIEND DAY

Always celebrated on February 11th, National Make A Friend Day, is a wonderful opportunity to meet someone new and make a new friendship. Friends serve a very important role in everyone’s lives. They are one of life’s most valuable assets.

It is very easy in the busyness of today’s world to miss out on spending time with our friends. Sometimes we just need to be reminded of the importance of friendship. We need to take a break from our hectic lives and spend time with our friends and February 11th, let’s take that time to make a new friend. Where ever you are, whatever you are doing, say “hi” to someone, start up a conversation, and make a new friend! You will be glad that you did.

A World Happiness Database study found that people with close friendships are happier. (Wikipedia)

Within many different types of friendships, there are certain characteristics such as: affection, sympathy, empathy, honesty, altruism, mutual understanding and compassion, enjoyment of each other’s company, trust and the ability to be oneself, express one’s feelings and make mistakes without fear of judgement.

Friends often tend to share common backgrounds, occupations or interests and have similar demographics.

* Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light. (Helen Keller)

* Friends are those rare people who ask how you are and then wait for the answer. (Unknown)

NATIONAL MAKE A FRIEND DAY HISTORY

Within our research, we are unable to find the creator of National Make A Friend Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

NATIONAL DON’T CRY OVER SPILLED MILK DAY

On February 11th, Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day is celebrated by many as a day to think positive. Look on the bright side of thingsthen carry that with you every day after. Do not worry and do not stress over the little things. Life is to short to let the little things bother us. Do not look at the negative in things, look for the positive.

Everyone knows that unexpected or unplanned things happen in life, sometimes on a daily basis. To help handle this is to find something good in all things. With a positive attitude, life is much brighter and easier.

Don’t cry over spilled milk.

NATIONAL DON’T CRY OVER SPILLED MILK DAY HISTORY

Our research has failed to find the origin or creator of this “unofficial” National

NATIONAL WHITE SHIRT DAY/ WHITE T-SHIRT DAY

National White Shirt Day also know as National White T-Shirt Day is always celebrated on February 11th.

This “unofficial” National holiday honors the men and women who participated in the strike at General Motors in 1937.

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union was helped by these autoworkers to become the sole bargaining agent for General Motors autoworkers.

White Shirt Day is best known in Flint, Michigan and other cities that have a GM auto plant.

NATIONAL WHITE SHIRT DAY/WHITE T-SHIRT DAY HISTORY

Bert Christenson, a member of UAW Local 598, initiated this “unofficial” National holiday on February 11, 1948.

NATIONAL SHUT-IN VISITATION DAY

A visit to a shut-in can make a positive difference in that person’s life. February 11th celebrates National Shut-in Visitation Day and each year on this day, many people across the nation take time to make a difference.

Due to physical, mental and/or emotional reasons, there are people that are shut-ins that may feel lonely, isolated, sad and cut off from the rest of the world. Sometimes these people do not have family and friends available to visit and spend time with them and they lack companionship.

We often take for granted our freedom to be able to go outside each day, take a walk around the block, drive to the mall, eat lunch at a restaurant, go to the gym, walk through the park and enjoy the scenery or the sandy beaches of the ocean. These are things that shut-ins are not able to experience on any day. A visit with them would brighten their day and we could share our experiences with them.

National Shut-in Visitation Day is a “unofficial” national holiday.

NATIONAL PEPPERMINT PATTY DAY

National Peppermint Patty Day, also known by some as National Peppermint Pattie Day, is celebrated each year on February 11th.

There were many chocolate-covered peppermints that had been made before the well known York Peppermint Pattie , which was first produced in 1940 and launched nationally in 1975. The York Peppermint Pattie dominated the market because of it’s firmness and crispness while the others were soft. A former “York” employee remembered that the final (sample) test of the pattie before it’s leaving the factory was called a “snap test”. If the candy did not break clean in the middle, it was a second.

Celebrate National Peppermint Patty Day by trying one of these “tried and true” recipes:

Morning all,
It is cool today, 18º, and windy. I am off to the doctor for a cardiac stress test. The doctor saw a past event in my EKG last week and suspects some partial blockage. I'm sure things will go okay.

Hidey-ho! I was awakened last night by a little sternutation - probably because the burners kicked in on the furnace, as it got below operating temperature for the heat pump. The furnace will get a workout over the next several days - I believe it will dip below 0 tonight. Ducky.

Bundle up, Gurus!

SUNNY AND COOL IN THE NATIONS THIS MORNING. THE CHEROKEES ARE SMILING. NOTHING OF IMPORT ON THE AGENDA TODAY, JUST RANDOM ERRANDS, AN EXCUSE TO DRIVE THE BUMBLEBEE.

SCORED BD GIFTS FOR #1 GD'S "UNBIRTHDAY", SHE BEING A LEAP-YEAR CHILD, AND DW YESTERDAY. THAT LEAVES #3 GS'S BIRTHDAY AND THE WEDDING ANNIVERSARY TO BUY FOR. FEB-MARCH IS ALWAYS A GIFTING CHALLENGE FOR ME.

Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn't mean politics won't take an interest in you! Pericles

Here's a pic of where I was yesterday. Wind blew over one of the Coconut Palms but it was quickly removed.

OK meeting over. Got some crap off my chest. We have one member of our group who's views about education, politics and most other things are about 180 degrees off of mine. Makes for interesting meetings.

It is clear and cool this morning, supposed to be much cooler today, mid-upper 40's.

I was a week off on my delivery schedule. Delivery won't be until next week.

Slow... forum for me, it is not -
the day, however - is....
busy as a one-eyed cat trying to watch three mouse holes yesterday and Monday - finally a break in things today.
Hope the stress test goes good for you, Don.
Was 70 here and sunny this past weekend, now it's back in the 20s-40s depending on the day and one night we're looking at 19. Someone needs to give mother nature a pill.

Thanks to you all for the well wishes. The stress test went okay, no pain or heart attack. The doctor was to call me in 2 or 3 days with the results. However, just after I got home, the doctor called and said there was some blockage and scheduled me for a consult with a cardiologist tomorrow. I asked about later, and he said tomorrow. So I have to travel 160 miles one way to see the cardiologist. I will know more later.

Mine went:

1 day after - Hospital dork "You have a problem with the blood flow to your heart."

Me: "How bad is it?"

Hospital dork "You'll have to talk to your doctor."

Me: WTF?
Then called to talk to the doc but "He's out right now. You can come in and see him in 8 days."

Me: WTF? Should I worry about open heart surgery?? Angioplasty ??

8 days later, the Doctor: "Oh, it's just a tiny problem, we're not even going to do anything about it, don't worry."
