What am I worth?
Guest_
1984 Corvette, z51 factory, automatic. 120k original miles.

New exterior paint (I'd give it a 9 out of 10, has some road scratches)

I'd give the interior an 8/10 (seats cracked, carppet faded)

New radiator.

Red on Red

Needs headlight motors replaced/rebuilt (it's not the relay).

Engine sounds good.

Belongs to the auto-body guy across the street from where I work.

He's asking 4k.

Your thoughts? Any interest?

I'll try and get some pic's leter today.

I dunno... If it was across the street from me at $4k, I would want to take it for a spin, and see if I could get it for $3,800.

Pix are good!

A guy in a 84 waved me over in traffic yesterday to tell me he just paid $2000 for it. Needed a new paint job (the repaint that it had was flaking off in a few spots) and the carpet could stand replacing but the rest of the interior was in good shape. Car had 115K, new catback, new tires and he claimed it had no oil leaks or oil burning...

That car sounds like it's worth some cash.

I would almost spend the money to get the headlights fixed, then detail the hell out of it and ask $6500 for it.

Seriously.

Paint is usually an expensive fix on the older ones - I'd say it sounds like it's worth it, outside of any huge surprises.

It is worth that in a heartbeat if it doesn't need any major mechanical repairs.

I saw the car when he first for it. All he did was paint it and do the misc. stuff I listed.

I took another look at it (forgot my damn camera, so no pic's yet) - looks like the previous owner was trying to make it into a rolling boom-box.

There's a Kenwood amp bolted to the back deck and what looks like a speaker box in the back too.

A speaker box would not kill the deal for me. I would want to see how it was mounted, and see how much of a mess I would need to clean up if I were to take it out though. Could be a bargaining chip.

Also, if easily removed, I bet you could sell the box for a couple bucks.

I think any corvette in decent shape should bring $5,000.

Some may get a better deal than that, but still they got to be worth $5,000.

It's a corvette!

With the right marketing, you should be able to get $6,500 easy.

Find a first time corvette buyer and you might get more out of it.

Sell it to a previous corvette owner, and it will be worth less.

I agree, no Vette should ever be worth less than $5k but sometimes they get trashed out bad.

Not to highjack the thread too much but. I just did a complete brake job for a younger guy who bought a 94. The car's got 71k miles. It needed: tires, brakes with rotors and plugs and wires. The seats are totaled but the carpet and rest of the interior will cleanup nicely. The engine is crudy and has the normal oil weeping but no leaks on the ground. 2 marks on very nice paint. Engine runs nice.
He paid $7,100 !
He's going to put about $2,500 in it right now before getting wheels and exhaust. He's gonna have a really nice car for his $9,600.

And I get dumped on for asking 9K for mine on other sites. The seats are in great shape, so is the paint minus a little rash on the front and it has a brand new 6 speed and clutch. New tires to boot too! I would have though that people would be beating down the doors for it but they are not. Hell at this point I would take 8 grand and not think another second about it.

This is kind of a hi-jack, but, c5s are almost within reach of a lot of "would be" c4 buyers, its just my opinion, but I think thats why we can't get out of our cars what we'd like to. I like mine though ...don't really want to sell

Still waiting to see if the OP pulled the trigger...

Four years ago, after looking at about 30 cars, I paid $12k for my 92. For a 64k mile car, it's close to mint condition, new clutch & flywheel, shocks, was stored in a heated garage. I still think I got a bargan. Never plan on selling it.
For seller's, the prices aren't great but the lower prices are bringing in new "Corvette People". The young guy that bought the Aqua 94 above couldn't stop talking about how lucky he was to get this car.

I bought my 85 for $4000. Paid $600 for shipping Found it needed a tranny $350 +$50 shipping on ebay. Put in a clutch while I was there $170 and a all new U joints 150.00.
Had the rear bumper painted $100, new floor mats $59, door carpet $50, lights $12, seat covers $550. Two tires $300. Total $6791 did all work myself and it is pretty much pristine. Soo if you want to figure what a 84 might be worth look close as it will add up. I still have a leaky rear seal and will replace the engine this summer. Forgot to add in a headlight motor rebuild about $150 and window seals $ 120. I still think I got a good deal because of the overall condition and would bring $6000 or a little more in its present condition.
