No cheit!!!

Changed my oil a week ago and as of today the friggin motor is making an internal racket. ....Was hoping to squeeze one more season outta it before retiring it to the boneyard.
87 Chavy G20 Van
220k miles

Bad time for this.

Does this sucker come out from inside or does the front end have to come off? If I can get it from the inside wondering if I could find a junkyard motor just to get me by for the year.

Not worth the effort, everything inside and out is rusted on it, seats are held together with duct tape. Winshield is cracked, 700r is weak, etc. Not a good part on it except the new alt. Would start right up after sitting for 6 mos and never skipped a beat, still passed smog with no problem. Thought maybe if I could yank it from the inside.....Taking the whole front end apart. Ugh.

Oil was 2 yrs old, figured I should change it.Only drive it 1-2k miles per year so it wasnt real dirty.

Treat em nice and see what happens!

No problem, just pull the muffler. That motor will sound great.

Put in an MP3 player with plenty of heavy metal music. That might make the noise blend in.

Matatk

Muffler is full of holes already and someone ripped the radio outta the dash a long time ago lol.
Its a real beater.

When I can get the compressor unmounted from the floor I should rev the sucker to its final breath and help it along with some screws down the TB and videotape it.

It has to come out from the front. It's not that hard, maybe on par with a C4 clutch! Actually easier. Ya gotta pull the bumper, grill and the top radiator/grill support. Mine had to be jacked up in the front because my engine crane is taller than most and hit the cowl below the windshield before it was ocet the center of the intake.

I sold the G20 (1977) two years ago with 358,000 on it. It still looked really good, everything still worked.
2 motors (second was the cheaper GM crate), 1 trans and 1 rear end rebuild (from towing the race trailer).
Great truck, bought it new for $6,300.

Ron, I used to put quite a few engines in work vans and cube vans, mostly Chevys since that's what most everyone used. It's really no big deal to take the nose section out. And after that between the frontal access and dog house access, it's really a piece of cake to work on. Good luck for a cheap and easy remedy. Hell, you might be able to put a crank kit in it and just keep going, if it's a rod bearing problem. That'd be much cheaper than even a junkyard dog.

Why not pull the alternator and build a new truck around it?

That's what I would do.

Lol, done that one before....

This thing is SO ugly (I need to get pics)..

Pulled up to a ladys house in a gated comunity last week to do a job and the neighbor called the security co thinking I was going to rob the house. I had to talk Mr guard-card douche for 15 minutes and call the customer at work to convince him I belonged there.
Seriously, its a rusty banged up chester POS.
Fun running into things and not worrying about it though.

That $uck$

Well at least you wan't have to store it. LOL

Before you totally kill it, see if a place will take it as a tax writeoff. Most donation places require a running car.
