Interesting news...

Can they do that? I think Bama's trying to win some brownie points here. Wagoner was a goner either way. It leaves GM with one less excuse though.

They didn't complete their billion dollar restructuring/begging letters by the due date, but they're getting your tax money anyways.

Good move, actually. They need to purge all the old school GM blue suits.

So looks like GM CEO had to go. Maybe the new guy will bring some good stuff to the table and turn things around a bit more than the prior CEO.

I saw that on the news this morning.

I'm sure he will 'make out' just fine.

I'm more worried about DC telling Chrysler they MUST merge with FIAT!

Sorry though!

No damage done.

I just observed Wagoner had to go, but I find it more than a little bit scary that the government is directing what goes on at GM.

If the government really wanted to help, they'd decouple the relationships of executive management to boards of directors. That would help all publicly traded businesses, not just GM.

I watch Morning Joe. This morning they asked the CNBC finance babe, Erin Burnett, if she knew anything about Fiat. Her first reply was: "Fix It All the Time"?

I just like watching Erin Burnett, I don't even care if she knows anything.

How can the POTUS fire a CEO of a company. I know Obama is going to try to bail out GM and could ask for Wagoner's resignation, but shouldn't the shareholders be the one to fire him? Am I missing something here?

I see that Brian, but like I asked in my post, shouldn't
Obama demand his resignation? I would think only the shareholders could actually fire him, or is this what really happened?

Correction, socialism, here we are. Heck, the socialist Western European nations are lecturing us about being too socialist!

Wagoner had to go, but it should have been GM to do it. What makes anyone think Obama will pick someone better than Wagoner?

Would it be the finely run government entities of Social Security, the Postal Service or even the BMV?

Hmmmmmm.

That's exactly what happened. Obama is now the biggest shareholder BTW. He gave them our money, and now he is calling the shots. Kinda stupid as he's got no stake in it. If it doesn't work out, he just points fingers somewhere else.

What sucks, if the government is in control they would build cars we don't want. Funny, Obama can tell these big businesses how not to spend the money and he can take 500 people to England for a summit and think people will look kindly at that? I'm telling my son to get into politics, its the only job thats has a secure future.

It's a universal thing. If the government runs it, you can be pretty sure it sucks. The only reason the military works is because they have dedicated, idealists who agree to become indentured slaves. And they overwhelm problems with big money.
If the military were run like other government entities, they wouldn't be able to defend Fort Knox from a group of angry kindergardeners.

One thing is for sure. GM will no longer make what consumers want, GM will tell consumers what they want.
