Went to celebrate a nice combined Mother's Day brunch over at Sue's first cousins house. The cousin and wife are nearing completion on a complete remodel of a home they bought on a lake. Really nice. They are minimalists so the floor plan is open and most clutter has been eliminated. (Unlike our home). He's a tech geek so it has all kinds of novelties and all custom. They employed the services of a professional interior designer to meet their goals and objectives. Really nice place with an open deck that goes to the edge of the lake complete with fountain, pool and hot tub. There is a dock as well. Nice place to spend the morning. and early afternoon. We left around 3:00 to go to a previously planned event. That event was Sue and I going to the Miccosukee Casino where Sue could play poker while I waited for her and played the slots. That's what she got for Mothers Day. Some time at the table. She was up $350 by the time we left I was down $120. I got ripped off big time. I had 7 Direct Hits that should have paid me around $200. A machine malfunction had the payment at $40. Vulcan bullshit. As you know, in casinos, management is not responsible for machine malfunctions. I will NEVER play that bank of old machines again. Matter of fact I may NEVER play at Miccosukee again. Instead I'll go to the Seminoles a little farther up the road or to one of the paramutuels where they also have bigger, better casinos> I'm sure they will be more than happy to take my money .......

IT'S RAINING ON THE CHEROKEES, AND ON THE CHOCTAWS, CREEKS, AND CHICKASAWS. THE RAINFALL PATTERN SEEMS TO BE REVERTING TO WHAT IT WAS WHEN I MOVED FROM OKLAHOMA TERRITORY TO THE NATIONS. WEBBED FEET MAY COME BACK INTO FASHION.

AND IN CLOUD-CUCKOO LAND THE RUSSIANS ARE NOTED TO BE BUILDING UP AND MODERNIZING THEIR ARMED FORCES WHILE THE US ARMY AS FALLEN BELOW PRE-WWII LEVELS. NOT TO WORRY: THE ARMY HAS MORE LAWYERS THAN EVER IN HISTORY AND WE’LL SOON HAVE FEMALE INFANTRY TO PROTECT US.

ALSO A WORD TO THE UNWISE: DON'T POINT TOY GUNS AT A MAN WITH A REAL ONE.

Marcus, your darling wife must have forgotten too or did she mention "Happy Anniversary".Then the proper well executed bluff could have been employed and you could have returned the "Happy Anniversary". Next, the "Today I have too much on my plate but tomorrow I was thinking we could go out and celebrate with a nice dinner." I didn't forget honey, we're just gonna celebrate it tomorrow." could be employed and "The Freeze" possibly lifted. Or not ........

Morning guys....It's overcast today and they are predicting rain. Most of the grands are off to school already. Had to move the Corvette so daughter could take three of them to school, and GS#6 (not in school yet) wanted to ride in the "race car" so I loaded him up and took him around the block while daughter left to take the others to school. To say the least he was excited. Start them early.

Today is #1 daughter's birthday...this is a big one, 40. Hard to believe she is that old, she's still my little girl. Today she is taking us to see the quartz she picked out for the new counter top for the kitchen I'll be doing for her starting this week.

Marcus, I hope you were able to dig yourself out of the hole you dug.

Howdy! I could use another weekend day just to get caught up on chores, but nooooooooooooooo. Meanwhile it looks like a cooler and wetter week ahead. The dusty Vette is in the garage - lots of residue from all the Canadian fires has been in the air the past few days.

Have a good day, all!

Good Morning CGs!

Sounds like everyone had a nice Mother's Day. I ended up getting three bouquets of flowers. Funny how that works out. But they were all happy so that's all that matters.

Cool and rainy here today. This weather has been really uncooperative the past few weeks (months?). A side note is that due to the rain the backyard plants and trees look great and are growing well.

Slow progress on the kitchen. I was hoping to have all of the drywall out and new stuff up today for the granite guy. He texted my wife yesterday and said he'd be here at 10 am to measure, I was expecting more like 5 pm. Oh well, he can still do it in the state it's in.

Marcus, good luck with your anniversary faux pas.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

What I found out today, for sure, is that Corvettes don't melt in the rain. I even had one of my grandsons to go check it out for me. We've probably had 1 1/2 to 2 inches today.

Happy forgotten anniversary, Marcus!

Had a whirlwind weekend, nice time up at my son's place yesterday, a fine brunch this morning, then drove back home this afternoon, unpacked the truck, then went to dinner with the rest of the family. I am stuffed. Meanwhile, the Twinkies just can't quite seem to get the worst record in the major leagues - Atlanta isn't cooperating.

Hope y'all had a good weekend!

I have the DeWitts... this was after the OEM radiator died, replaced with another GM radiator, that lasted all of 3 years before the seals on the side tank went south.

At the time, the GM replacement radiators were selling for about $200 each... and if they lasted only 3 or 4 years, lets get a real radiator and be done with it. So I did... a DeWitts. It was about $495 for a manual trans LT1.

Champion, if they existed, I was unaware of them then. Then, by the way, was 10 years ago.

AFAIK, no issues with the DeWitts.

My only concern, is that the Champion rads are made in China... I don't know what this does for durability.

Well, it's turned out to be a very rainy Mudders Day. The rain has set in here. #1 and SIL are doing supper tonight with his parents as well as us and the kids. #3 and her family are doing supper with her MIL. SIL is going to try and grill for us.....not sure how that will work, but maybe he has it figured out.

Rosie and #3 have put a huge dent in the cleaning and de-cluttering procedure. Getting closer to having the house ready to show.

Well, the weather has turned cloudy today. We've been over at #2 s house helping with getting the house ready for them to put it on the market. I was working outside, then it started sprinkling, so that put an end to that. So I came in and started listening to the Royals. We were ahead when I started , now it appears that we want to give this one away as we gave them 3 runs in the 5th. Let's hope they make a come back.

GOT A DEWITT'S IN THE '87, THOUGH I SURE DON'T RECOLLECT PAYING $560 FOR IT. GOT A CHAMPION THREE TUBE IN THE '95 THAT THE PO HAD PUT IN. I CAN TELL NO DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE.

Thanks for the info guys.
I have a decent sense of respect for the folks on this forum, so I think I'm gonna go with the Champion. At that price it's just too hard to ignore even if I have to jump thru a couple hoops.
If I had the coin to go with a BeCool or DeWitts I'd do it, but the extra $300 will go nicely towards some mufflers and other expenses that come up with projects.

Had a long day in the truck yesterday.....left at around 7:30 in the morning an got home at 11 last night..........I had a blast. Had the Rowdy Yates old gold country radio program going and he was playing some classics as I was staring at the world thru the windshield....a prisoner of the highway..... Had the window down last night it was so nice out.....I am walking wounded today though.....

Oh yeah...completely forgot my anniversary........I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer......things are a little cool around here this morning.....dangit.....what's the matter with me......I will try and throw money at it and see if that helps......hmmm.....

It was so smoky here yesterday from those Canadian fires that we had to run with our lights on out on the highways......crazy amount of smoke from a long way away........big fires....

Today I must mow the acreage before it rains again.....grass is growing like weeds.......

Enjoy your day Guru's........keep the shiny side up.....

SUNNY AND COOL IN THE NATIONS THIS MORNING, MAY RAIN THIS AFTERNOON, THEY SAY.

LONG DAY YESTERDAY, MISSED MY NAP :-) #1 GS GOT ALL GRADUATED, LOOKS LIKE HE HAS SNAGGED A JOB IN TULSA. DARLING WIFE DISCOVERED HER KEYS MISSING WHILE WE WERE IN STILLWATER. FRANTIC SEARCH OF #1 GRANDDAUGHTER'S HOUSE, DAUGHTER'S VAN TO NO AVAIL. WHEN WE GOT BACK TO OKMULGEE I FOUND THEM IN THE TRUCK. I KEPT TELLING HER SHE LEFT THEM STUCK IN THE DOOR AT HOME. SOMEHOW THAT THEORY WAS NOT PROPERLY APPRECIATED ;-)

Not sure what's in store for today. I guess I'll take it as it comes.

Good Morning CGs!

Didn't make any progress on the house yesterday. Work and then a Communion dinner after that. Tonight will be tight, as well. Will see folks on both sides and then maybe I can get some work done in the late evening. Granite guy will be here tomorrow, I need to hustle a bit.

Got some little things off ebay this week cheap. They needed some cleanup from surface rust, so I did that. Evaporust and a little wire wheeling did the trick. Got some nice tools to work with now:

sk and petersen photo 20160507_162403.jpg

What are the big plans for today?

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hey guys, a long day. Got up early and drove 2 1/2 hours to where the memorial service was to take place. GPS said it would take over three hours, I wanted to get there a little early so we left before 7. I told Rosie, I don't think it's that far (over three hours), I think it's on;y about two and a half, but we left really early. Got to the cemetery an hour and a half early. My mom's cousin is the cemetery sexton and although I recognized him, he didn't know me. So when we pulled up he was sitting there in his pickup. "Are you here for the service?" he says. "Yes", He says, "I'm not sure which plot is his, do you know? If not I'll go home to look at the map." "I think it's right over there," me pointing to the nest row over. "No, I think that's where Mollie and Lee are buried", (my grandparents) "Yea, Bill's plot is right next to grandpa and grandma." So we walk over and sure enough, there is the headstone with uncle Bills' name on it. "Oh, I guess I didn't see that." So he grabs his spade and starts digging. "How big is that urn?". I really don't have any idea. So he is sitting there on the ground digging out the loose dirt by hand and starts asking me what I do down in Arizona (Where my only cousin lives). "Oh, I not Bill's son, I'm Peggys' son." "Ooohhhhh. Where do you live?" And so he and I get reacquainted. he tells me he's 82 and has been sexton for 50 odd years. I remember him digging grandpa's and grandma's graves. About 20 minutes later my little brother shows up, and he says, "Is that Bill's son?" "No, that's my brother." Anyway, my cousin shows up with his family and some others cousins of my moms show and He gets the hole dug big and deep enough for the urn.

My cousin then starts the service (very, very informally) telling why we are there and gives a rundown on his life. Then many folks told stories about uncle Bill. We stand around for a while afterwards and then we take off for KC.

We are about 2 hours from KC when we leave the cemetery, so I told Rosie, let's take the back roads for a while. So we head east on the state highway (55MPH speed limit). If I have been on this road this far east, I don't remember when. What a freaking beautiful drive! Rolling hills and very curvy roads, perfect for the Corvette! I would take this way again, in the Corvette. Every bit as much fun as many mountain roads I've taken. The trip on to KC took us maybe an extra 45 minutes, but was WELL worth it. We did finally get on the interstate for about an hour vs 3 hours normally.

We got to KC in time to watch one GS play a soccer match, then down to be with #1 daughter as she had to work an arts and crafts show for her business, so I sauntered around checking out the crafts. We (all of us) went over to #3's house. And then out to eat...guess who got to buy supper?

Been a long day. I'll check in earlier tomorrow.

The video is very interesting.

The C7 looks super smooth going around those corners. Flat, no drama. Very nice... and super cool!!!

I'm just bored with "Brake, Downshift, Turn In".
I will say I've gotten a tremendous amount of satisfaction from being an instructor, the "Oh yea, now I get it", the smiles and the high fives on the cool down laps are why I did it.

And being the Chief of Tech trying to get 70 cars thru the tech line AND then running to jump in a car was exhausting.

I'm now only concentrating on race drivers and setting up their cars, more enjoyable for me. And to blow my own horn, one of my guys who I coached put his 1999 Corvette on the pole for the SCCA National Championships last year (got booted off the track in the first turn). A month later, he won the NASA National Championships.

The only place I've driven a C7 is on the track, it's much more forgiving than the C5-6 for a new driver. And yea, it's very smooth - impressive.

Today we went from this to this:
3 full days at the track next weekend.

OH yea, Bob, Leadfoot Racing.

Seriously though, my 92's been sitting puking coolant.

I'm not thrilled with getting another OEM with plastic side tanks. Even though mine ran to 94k miles. AND the inexpensive replacements get crappy reviews.

I found these guys on the web, they get good reviews.
Click on "About Champion" and note how they are built.

AND-----look at the price, $200 shipped. This is what I'm getting.

Time has come to look for a radiator for the project.
It's an '89, 6 spd , and it's gonna have a 383 in it.
I know people like DeWitt$, and that Be Cool is available.
Jegs has Champion available. Instead of $560 for DeWitt$, it's a little over two bills. I'm skeptical.
But the price make a certain temptation hard to ignore. But you get what you pay for.

I know others exist, any suggestions?

sorry to hear we bored you to tears... would more wrecks have spiced things up? :D

The video is very interesting.

The C7 looks super smooth going around those corners. Flat, no drama. Very nice... and super cool!!!

Good Afternoon CGs!

Busy here. The kitchen facelift is turning into a major project. I have been working on it every night after work. I really need a solid 8 hour day uninterrupted. Granite guy is coming Monday for final measurements so I'm under the gun.

No real updates on dad, still working on getting meds right.

Have a Communion dinner to attend tonight so no kitchen work.

Have a great day.

Wow? 90 miles? I can see how that could easily be an overnighter. ;)

GMCG's

Seems like almost everyday Sue works late into the evening. Sometimes I have a lighter day than others but yesterday I had a full day planned which pretty much meant working till dusk. Sue came home at 03:30 PM and said to me. How about calling it an early day today? I said ...... Ah, NO! I have a lot to do today and will pretty much be working late. Well why don't I help you so you can done earlier? She decided she would cut the grass shaving 1 1/2 hours off the time it would take me to finish. Well we did finish about an hour earlier than I had planned. It was still 07:30 PM though. My usual day goes something like this. I finish sometime around 05:30 or 06:00. I start to feed the animals or make dinner and the phone rings with some task that MUST be accomplished (empty truck, load truck, gather tools, unload something she brought home, plant something she brought home or some other surprise) (Matter of fact I expect the phone to ring at any second now. But that only happens when I least expect or want it). The day I plan a late day she comes up with "How about calling it an early day today?" ............ Thanks for tuning in to another episode of ... How The Cookie Crumbles.

So now I guess I'm ready to start my day day. At least I am mentally prepared. Well, sort of .......

That video looks bad ass!

Same track config with the instructor driving (showing the student the correct lines. Looks like he's running about 70%.

The camera position is lousy should be showing the driver's hands, etc.

I quit being an instructor this year after 18 years and about 30,000 miles in the right seat, I got bored.

ANOTHER FRUSTRATING DAY AT THE RANGE, SHOT UP ALL THE .308 I HAD LEFT TRYING TO ZERO BEFORE I NOTICED THE RECEIVER SIGHT WAS LOOSE. I HAD ABOUT DECIDED TO SELL THAT RIFLE. THE SAKO .222 MAG PUT THREE ROUNDS TOUCHING AT 100 YD WITH THE DETACHABLE PEEP SIGHT. NO FLIES ON THAT! BUT THEN I COULDN'T BORESIGHT THE SCOPE. MOUNT PROBLEM. FIRST TIME A LEUPOLD PRODUCT HAS EVER DISAPPOINTED ME. I THINK I CAN STONE IT INTO ALIGNMENT.

AND THEN THERE'S THE GOAT:

Two good 'ol Tennessee boys are out hunting, and as they are walking along they came upon a huge hole in the ground.
They approach it and are amazed at the size of it.

The first hunter says, "Wow, that's some hole; I can't even see the bottom. I wonder how deep it is?"

The second hunter says," I don't know. Let's throw somethin' down there, listen and see how long it takes to hit bottom."

The first hunter says, "Hey, there's an old automobile transmission over there.

Give me a hand, we'll throw it in and see."

So they pick it up and carry it over and count one, two, three and heave it in the hole. They are standing there listening, looking over the edge, when they hear a rustling behind them. As they turn around, they see a goat come crashing through the underbrush, run up to the hole and, without hesitation, jump in headfirst.

While they are standing there staring at each other in amazement, peering into the hole, trying to figure out what that was all about, an old farmer saunters up.

"Say there," says the farmer, "You fellers didn't happen to see my goat around here anywhere, did you ?"

The first hunter says, "Funny you should ask, but we were just standing here a minute ago and a goat came running out of the bushes doin' bout a hunnert miles an hour and jumped . . .headfirst into this here hole!!"

The old farmer said, "Naw, that's impossible . .

I had him chained to a transmission."

You WON'T BELIEVE how nice the facility is there.

And you WON'T BELIEVE how good the instructors are.

Until you experience it.

This is the track that GM sends you to as a part of buying a new Z06 (and maybe the GS).

This is a first time driver who drives C2's but bought a new Z. The data graphics are not seen while you're on track, added during debrief.

Looks good there Jeff... What year? You put in valve stem seals too?

Does it cycle the oil back to crankcase? Or get disposed through 'service'?

I saw the oil pooled in the plenum, at the PVC intake port. CLEAN oil, so I want it cycled back to crankcase.

You got a schematic for the device?

hi, gang!!!

It's been a hectic few weeks... man...

T-bone and his lovely wife spent a day with us after coming back from a cruise. We were able to drive them around the South Bay area of LA, take a few pictures, tour our little castle, dine at a fave local eatery and get them to the airport with plenty of time to deal with bags and relax a bit. It was a blast having them here!!

Last month, we went to the Long Beach GP for the IMSA race. Due to our compressed travel plans, and some crappy weather, for Sebring, we missed out on a lot of the discussions in the Corral. Well, thanks to Bastet44 not feeling well, and my back really bothering me, we decided to catch up on said tech discussions! Glad we did... I ended up winning a 1/18th scale C6r model from Michelin... and during Ron's presentation, I won the drawing the the 2-day driving school at his Spring Mountain Driving Resort! Exciting!!! I will be claiming that in the fall... It's 45 minutes west of Vegas and it gets hella hot there.

Last weekend, I was down for the count with a stomach bug...

Still dealing with the accident. I have the estimate, need to know the next steps. The insurance company of the driver who hit me is one of these firms for shipping/logistics companies, so they farm out their claims estimates to independent appraisers... need to follow up with the insurance company as to what happens next. Coordinating rentals... I need to get the car to McJacks... and he isn't open tomorrow, so it will have to be next Saturday... and there is always the fear that something bad is lurking under the little tear in the cover.

Between all of this, I am swamped at work, pulling way too many 12 hour days.

whew...

A bead of Black RTV around the perimeter of the Scotch-Brite, spun around to seal.

2 sections slip-jointed together, 3M tape.

Lotta' work for 'prototype'. Should know what to do with Polycarbonate tubing when I find it.......
