The pump was replaced and now the relay failed? Sounds kind of coincidental. The relay is under the passenger side dash on my '91, I think.

Nice design and workmanship. It was hot here. Hope you had a nice breeze, as the job must have created lots of dust with all those angle cuts. Did you rent some kind of masonry chop saw? How about mixing, by hand?

Saw one of these today, driven by a white haired elderly gentleman. White Rolls Royce Phantom coupe. He was wearing a very self-satisfied smile. 48 valve V-12, rear hinged doors, WOW.

Most Sears stores (around here anyway, Chicago, the home of Sears) used to have a service counter with all the parts on microfilm. Very convenient setup. Not anymore though.

Might keep the cabin a little cooler, huh?
Only experience I have with them is when they stick or leak.
The one on my Caprice is vacuum operated, replaced twice.
Matt, where did those neat diagrams in your second post come from. Me want some.

Would the Superram work with the Edelbrock base?
Here's an install I found. Maybe you've seen it.
http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c4/vader86/superram.html
Looks like shallow holes were drilled in the "china wall" to hold the silicone on the last installation of your new base.

Cool. Do you know what size intake gasket the ports are compared to your present intake?
Are they larger than the head intake ports?

How's the paint holding up 1+ year later? Don't want to nag, but the light lenses look like they could use a buff.

I used pen magnets to hold the lifters. If I was going to do it again, I think I'd remove the manifold, less anxiety.
I did nothing with the oil pump when changing the cam.

After squirting and heating the rusted bolts on my Caprice for several days, I came to the conclusion that I'll let a pro tackle it because I know I'd end up with broken bolts.

I have two vehicles with that engine block. Seeing as how this new one should be able to be "refreshed" with no machine work, I'll move it to the basement this winter and put it on a stand. The price was right, $250. It will give me something to do. My mechanic looked it over and said he would come over and do the cylinder honing for me.

Bought some more lightly used pieces. Distributor, leaf springs, brake booster, ccm, coolant tank, battery cables, climate control stuff...can't help it. Brought home the like new short block the other day. He still has a couple more items I want. Saving my allowance.

It is best to do all your pre-assembly build first and when all is good, THEN have your parts balanced.. you'll b ok.

Could you clarify this for me?
First you wrote that it's OK to grind on the rods and not rebalance anything, afterward you stated to finish the "pre-assembly" and then balance the parts. Thanks

Well, the Motivo is an all weather design with a 560 tread wear rating. Kind of a mismatch for a car with 525hp, no?
Do they even come in the size to fit your Z06?
Even the Invo with it's 260 wear number is more of a touring tire.
NT05's or 555R's in back and 555's in front.
I just purchased a set of 555's, 2554517/2854017 for $600 total, mounted and balanced. There are some great deals out there on them. If you burn them up in a year or two, blame it on all that horsepower and get another set.

This is out of the '91 FSM, assuming you don't have one.
Rough unstable or incorrect idle. Additional checks: check AC signal to ECM, Tech 1 should indicate AC is being requested whenever AC is selected. If problem persists with AC "on", check AC system operation, use chart C10. Hope it helps.
The ECM does adjust the idle before the AC clutch engages.

Put a match to it with the ohm meter connected. You'll see it move right away. Resistance should drop as it warms.

edit: '91 FSM-key on, pump running, FP s/b 41-47psi.
Start and idle, pressure s/b lower by 3-10psi which puts the O.P.'s number in spec.

Hope it doesn't come back.

One month old coolant temp sensor from Advance went bad in my '91 Caprice. Open circuit caused me a nightmare of a 60 mile drive in lots of traffic. Super rich condition causing stalling, hard restarts in very awkward places.

So what do you do at primitive camp? Just go out with no luxuries like tv and a couch? I just call that camping.

I pried gently on the other 6 connections and 2 were barely hanging on. I have 2 working original '91 modules to go with the new ACDelco I should receive today from Rock Auto ($50) that as joeld said will be of questionable quality.
I have read on other sites that the name brand manufacturers buy from the lowest bidder and believe it.
A remote mount, say the firewall, could maybe help these things live longer, less heat/vibration, but that's not going to happen.

Top dollar doesn't necessarily mean top quality either.
Live and learn, I guess.

At least the cover on the original GM part is sealed, not just snapped on like the NAPA part.

Yeah, one would think that a critical connection like that would be more secure, like a crimp for instance, not a flimsy lap soldered connection.
I'm not going to take my new ACDelco module apart to find out if it's any better, something tells me it's not, but I am going to try and find out if there is a better made part out there.

I popped the cover on the failed ignition control module that caused my '91 to shut down on the road 3 times and finally die completely in my driveway (at least I made it home).
3 year old NAPA part branded Echlin, assembled in Hong Kong.
It's inside the distributor on the HEI ignition.
The circuit board itself looks OK and is covered in a gooey gel.
The 7 flat terminal plates on the circuit board have a small wire face soldered to them and face soldered to a plate that is connected to each of the 7 male ICM connections.
The amount of solder is microscopic and the one to the + terminal was loose causing the intermittent dying problem which throws no code BTW.
It's not very reassuring knowing the car's ability to run is hanging on a thread.
Carry a spare.

Mark Haibeck, one of the premier C4 ZR-1 Guru's and his gracious wife Susan hosted a BBQ/ZR1 gathering at their facility in Addison IL. today. It was a real treat to view 28 or so ZR-1's, BS with their owners and fill up on some great food.
