I have barely enough time to work on my own cars. My ZR-1 has been sitting since last August with a camshaft issue.

I'll have the bracket mounted this weekend. I think my 85 is still on the original alternator (Shocking), but it only has 60,000 miles on the clock with the last 1,000 being track only. :D

C6's be pretty damn sweet. Holding out for a Z06 or ZR1 on my end.

I must say I am getting pretty tired of my C4 ZR-1.

Just ballpark recommendations. If somebody has a nice little bookshelf system. But seems like nobody here works on their cars. Or at least with tunes playing.

Had some people mention www.ilive.net

Been meaning to reply.

I got my bracket from Jeff. I had forgotten about it and was expecting something else in the box. Unwrapping and I'm thinking WTF as the alum spacers are what i pulled out first. Then I pulled the bracket out and was ALRIGHT!!!!

Looks great. I hit the main bracket with some paint, and should have it mounted up next weekend.

Thanks again Jeff

Well the end of an era happened. I had a stereo that had survived since 1990 via trips from Alaska, Virginia, Texas, Mississippi, Oregon and Washington. The last year she has been struggling and last night was apparently the last.

So now I am on the hunt. Looking for something that has an ipod dock or at least a connector jack. Needs to have an AM/FM tuner built in. And I guess be relatively compact.

What are you guys using?

The C6 ZO6 is not the same as the standard C6 brakes. The C6 ZO6 is a 6 piston PBR caliper. Standard is a 2 piston slider.
The ZR1 is a 6 piston Brembo.

ZR1 calipers are straight from Brembo. And priced pretty competitively from GM. It is the CC pads and rotors that kill ya. 600 per caliper in pads and the rotors are 2k or so.

I'm glad you corrected yourself on the J55 being adequate at RA. I am surprised the J55 even lasts 5 laps. Even turn 6 is hard on the brakes before you hit the back straight. And 10A is just brutal.

If you are considering going, I HIGHLY suggest you book your hotel at the end of April 2011 when the calender opens up for March of 2012. Hotels get scarce rapidly and you will find yourself commuting 40-60 miles or staying in a rat hole.

Now I'm not a big fan of the LS7 for reasons mentioned above and I think there can be alot more motor done for less using a different LS based combo.
Not everyone wants a C-5 some of us love our C-4's.

Raid, I know you love yours, as I love my race car. But you didn't try to integrate with ASR. You didn't try to integrate into a CCM. You didn't try to integrate in with the factory gauges.

Honestly, if it is so easy, how come everybody is not running a LSx in their C4? How many of these conversion projects have been abandoned mid stream or close to the end?

I don't think anyone is nay-saying, at least I'm not. I just think the cost of the LS7 and the engineering required to accomplish the job exceeds the benefit. However, if you don't have to worry about how much it costs and you really want the Wow Factor, then its a project worth tackling for you.

Exactly. Maybe if you were building a pro touring hot rod from scratch, had no CARB to deal with, no existing ECM/CCM to try and tie into.

Additionally, IMO I'd would rather forgo the headaches and just get a nice C6Z06. I would still have my C4 which I love, and a C6 Z06 to compliment it too.

That is the correct answer. Hell even a C5 Z06 or base C6.

Andy, there is a better way to invest your resources than this project. I am sure it can be overcome, but the time, money and troubleshooting are going to suck.

Put a stocker back in it and be done.

If you want a LSx c4, I'll sell my 91 race car for cheap.

Wow, it's strange that they're the same as J55s but anything's possible.
The mounting brackets would have to fit the C4 spindle and would have to have the right dimension so that the caliper would be centered on the disc.

Interesting swap though.

The J55 brake set up is exactly the same caliper and pad used on the SN95 Cobra. What I do not know is, is if the abutment bracket mount to the spindle is the same size and distance. Never cared to find out.

I know this is going to sound strange and maybe a little crazy.

I've found a set of Brembo 4pot calipers.
They came off a Mustang SN95, and include the mounting brackets.

Now what little I know is the PBR J55 calipers are the same as the Mustang SN95 Cobra calipers.
What should I ask about the mounting brackets to determine if they would fit?

Yea I know get 6 pot calipers, etc, etc, etc.
But these are $600 vs $1600!

Without seeing a picture of what pieces you are using it could be easy to fab a bracket, or you could play hell. What will help tremendously is if the caliper is radial mount instead of a axial mount. The other consideration is what rotor you are planning on using and the offset needed to get the caliper to center on that location.

Andy, I think the Matco piece will surprise you. Once weighted down with the sockets, the tray does not budge when removing the socket you want. Mine have made journeys to Canada twice, Alabama and of course to the local track with no issues.

I think I might have a spare if you want to try it out.

How many of you gurus change bolts every time? It also says to torque them to 165ft.lbs -- pretty stout.

Considering they come with threadlocker on the threads is why it says to replace them. Can't trust a tech to clean a bolt and put the correct threadlocker on them. Takes less time, almost idiot proof (still have to use a TQ wrench).

Has nothing to do with heat stress.

So sell his fine running 90 for a possible money pit beat on c5 for 13k? Doesn't make sense to me.

Unless there is something cosmetic you want to change, new radio, etc, just keep it mechanically running well and enjoy.

A few years ago a C5 at 13k would be a high high mileage beat to shit car with issues. Now, it gets a fairly decent ride with some miles. You can poke into a C5 Z06 for 17 now.

Unless you see excessive wear characteristics on the lifter they should be fine. If you do want to replace, order a set of the LS7 lifters. They are around 100 bucks per set. Make sure you soak them in oil for a day before installing.

But the ASR does not help him when he was already going to fast for conditions. Nor would AH.

He was obviously going to fast, hit ice, lost control, went over a curb, through a fence and finally stopped in a pool. I am shocked a pool cover has enough strength to support a car. Luckily he didn't take out the slide. The children would have been devastated.
