Hey guys, been awhile since I posted so I figured its time for a update. Still doing fine and dandy in Iraq. After some thought you know that I decided not to get a camaro on my return. I also thought more about what vette I want and I think I know now. I think I will go with a C5 Z06. Around a 02-04, with mods done to it. Looking to see about getting one with at least 450 RWHP or better. Last time I checked the other forum I found a butt load of them that meet that criteria. The hard part now is saving that money and getting the loan for the rest. Which I dont think will be hard at all. I want to keep the price as low as I can while still getting what I want. I figure I should be able to get what I want and walk away paying no more than 25K out the door. While looking at the C5s I found the tiger shark body kit. I would love to get one that has this kit already installed but I can live without it. I still have about 5 months left on my tour and I am sure I will change my mind about 5 more times yet too...lol. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions?

If you can hold out and get a little more cash, the C6 Z06 market is falling hard. I've seen 06 and 07 cars in the high 30's. These cars have low miles as well.

Unless you just really like the look of a C5.

Go for it. For the money, a C5 Z06 is an outstanding car. I'm considering doing the same thing this spring.

Thanks for what you're doing for us over there by the way.

Hi Johnny, good to hear from you! I am a big fan of the C5 tigershark front end. And on a C5Z it would look great. I have seen some nice C5Zs for the low 20s with mild upgrades (headers, etc). I think you should just save what you can and when you get home figure out what you have to work with. I understand what Jeff is saying, but the difference between say $22k and $38k is still a lot to the average guy.

A 2003 with 30k mi sold here for $19k, RJ. Owned by an older guy, garage kept. Most are around $22.

Heck, they may be cheaper in 5 months.

Come home safe.

Thanks for the comments guys! Yeah a C6 Z06 is out of the question, that differance is just too much. I want my payments in the low to mid 200's. I figure I will have at least 15K (Hopefully more) when I am ready to buy which means I cant finance more than 8K otherwise I could be in the 300's quick even with a 4 year loan. We will see whats available when the time comes. I have seen non-modded Z's go for 18-20K but I would really like to get something with extensive work done. That can save me alot of money in the long run. Lots of variables in the air right now so its just a waiting game for right now to see how things pan out. I can still save the money but things may push the time line back alittle bit.

I'm sure there are plenty of base C5s out there too modded beyond a Z06's abilities. They aren't too far apart. I would not count them out.

one of the reasons I'm modding a car myself even though it's more money

a) I know it's done right

b) selling my be getting rid of a modded car because it
i) was done wrong
ii) it's was beat to death and will need to get redone.

Johnny! Great to hear from ya!

I have been meaning to chime in on this thread...

I get Corvette Market magazine. The thing is, C6s are getting CHEAP. They are going on eBay for $25k. Period.

I know they have been and its going to be a tough choice when the time comes. I lean twards a C5Z because I know I can get away with one that has good mods for around the same price. But on the other had I can get a C6 thats still under warrenty and I get the benefit of all the new features and new body style which I really dig. I still got more time to think and everyone has put in some good advice. Got some more things to think about I guess. Thanks everyone for puting in your input!
