Am I the only one seeing this?

Call me unsympathetic, but I find this rationale offensive that God took a dump on Haiti and the world is now expected to come to the rescue.

And the more cash that goes in, the more the hand comes out. I feel the main problem is Haiti was a desperate situation to begin with, so it's difficult to even establish any sort of benchmark for what a "rebuilt" Haiti looks like. What are the expectations here? It's a blank check. Does it go on until the common public and media's attention span fades? Or until all the shantytowns are replaced with energy efficient and seismically reinforced public housing?

"I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents."

--James Madison, while voting against lending aid to Haitian refugees, 1794

You are not alone. I'm waiting to see what comes of this mess. I feel for those people, but as you state, what's the baseline?

Looks like most of the damage they've had from hurricanes is due to mudslides.

You can blame the hurricane, or you can blame man-made deforestation.

You can blame the earthquake, or you can blame the guy who constructed the house from unreinforced concrete on a major faultline.

Personally I find it sort of futile to blame mother nature for anything.

I have a hard time making an opinion about it based on the newscasts, as I know they aren't showing the stuff they think people don't want to see. It still bleeds through though.

They were interviewing a resident who was relocating to a tent camp. He complained that there were no jobs. Uhh... yeah.

IMO, the Haitian government should've checked our job references on nation building before accepting anything.

They were too busy stuffing their pockets with the money, probably with money we gave them before the quake.

OBwan said the Washington was going to get tough with the contractors. Right, he just awarded a large campaign contributor a $25 million contract. Think that contractor will contribute to his reelection?

The big question in Haiti is "Who's getting rich?"
