I can't keep a secret any longer.... but I am very close to making a decision to buy a 2002-2004 Z06. I have been shopping and found a nice Millennium Yellow Z at the car show that I was able to get in, start up and drive around a little bit. The other one is a 2004 Electron Blue in Atlanta that I have not drove, but it only has 18,000 miles on it and it looks exceptional from the photos. I'm still debating pros and cons but a nice new Z would be great and I'd keep my C4 for tinkering.

This is not the time to think. You should jump on one of them and ask yourself later WTF did I do?

I'll probably kick myself in the arse.... butt!
The blue one looks so nice with only 18k miles on it!

and

I love the yellow even though its a little bright!!
My C4 would definitely be jealous!

Funny... I have been ragging on the C5 seats for years, but when I was driving that Z06 I didn't notice it at all... LOL

Tommy is right don't think just do it. Blue is nice but Yellow is an eye catcher. Put a Taxi Light Bar on the top and make money. Little sign below the Taxi sign should read"I betcha I can make you piss your pants in the first mile"!!!!

I'm holding out a bit because I really like the "Mod Red" interior (two tone) and it is harder to find. Both of the cars I have found do not have the interior I want.

I came across a 2002 low mile blue Z06 last spring. It was priced a little high but was mint. Always tempting. They (the cars) keep calling me, and calling me. Pick me .... no, pick me .... I don't need anymore stinkin cars.

Thanks Andy, I'll keep you in mind. That one is the most expensive at $26k, but the lowest mileage. 18k miles is hardly anything. The car is at American Sport Car Center. I bought my 94 from them ten years ago.

Prices are high around you, Don, expecially the dealers.

But there's a boatload of low milage Z's arould you, even a couple white ones ao you can have twins.

Even one dealer has a Canary Yellow one.

What about the paint besides that it's extra expensive (cause of the pearl).

Don, I've never driven a Z06, but they are nice cars. The C5's have a lot that the C4's don't have. Although I wished I'd been in a position to keep them both, I'm not sorry that I went with the C5. I know what you mean about getting the interior that you want, the mod red isn't all that tough to find. A speedway white with mod red would be ideal for you.

That's cool. I've been hearing that about my white Corvette for 10 years.

The coolest color is the old Nassau Blue that you could get from 1997-1999. Otherwise color is not a real issue for me as long as the finish is in excellent condition.

Well, I couldn't sleep last night.... I have a bait and swap going on and I'm gonna get sucked in. I think. I have a 2006 Corvette Coupe sitting in my driveway that I took for a test drive last night... I haven't signed any paperwork yet, but I may this afternoon.

My Club Sponsor, Sport Chevrolet pulled a rabbit out of the hat Wednesday when they took a 2006 3LT Coupe in on trade. It's a beautiful Monterey Red with Cashmere interior. The car is in exceptional condition with only one drawback; it has 49,000 miles on it. Which I thought was a little high, however the NADA book gives it $1100 for lower than average mileage. I like the Navigation / XM Stereo, although not as nice as the Pioneer HU I put in my '94. Oh, and It's got fairly new Goodyear F1's on it. Six speed, non-Z51 though.

They are offering me the car for $25,900 which my friend Lee tells me is just a bit over what they have into the car for the MD inspection, and pre-owned car service the do to it after they take delivery. Now... I still have taxes, title and tags on top of the $25.9 to think about which will bring the price tag up around $28, but I think this is pretty good pricing on a C6 from a dealership.

I'll let you know what I come up with later today. There's a big difference in a LS2 Coupe and a LS6 Z06, but its a great way to get into a C6 and not get raped by major depreciation of the new models.

Here's my take on it. You are going to spend a lot of money. If you are going to spend a lot of money you should get exactly what you want and not get a "This is almost as good as the car I wanted". You'll be driving it for years and owe a nice piece of change on it. I notice you lament that some of the newer cars don't have the amenities you like in your C4. You have invested quite a bit in your C4. You know it, you like it. It had a mechanical failure. You can fix the C4 much cheaper than replacing the C4 and still be in the game. I know you and everybody else would love to see you in a C6 or a Z06. If it were me I'd get the C4 up and running then make a decision on an upgrade later. Only you can figure out how deep is too deep. They keep throwing you bait (Corvettes). If you work yourself into a frenzy, you'll bite. Once your hooked , your hooked. Good luck Don.

Note: A Z06 would be nice but how often would you actually use that configuration. If your more of a cruiser and car show guy, a stocker would fill the bill. If you plan on bangin the gears a little bit like at DE, drag racing or autocross than I would opt more for the Z06 or Z51.

Well Gents.... I made it back home and sat down here to read what "Wise Men" have to say... Tommy I think you hit the nail on the head again. I had a lot of things nagging at the back of my head about this purchase... I must sound like a fickle high school kid!! LOL

Anyhow, it just didn't feel right. After talking to my wife last night (she didn't say no by the way) and then I went over and had breakfast with my parents. Those few conversations got me to thinking about what it was that I really wanted to do. I need to finish this other car and stop think immediate gratification. So... I walked away from a pretty good deal today, but I'm afraid it just wasn't exactly what I wanted and on top of that I'd have a payment which would make it harder to finish the C4.

So... I'm back in the garage now.. more determined than ever. "Why don't you hand me a wrench?" 15mm for the torque converter bolts... sonofabitch... how do I turn this flywheel easily?

Since it was your decision, it was a wise decision.

" but I'm afraid it just wasn't exactly what I wanted "
Says it all.

I looked at a lot of C4's and took 4 months before I found the "right" one. That has paid off big time.

With your connections, you're going to see many more that you'll "think about". The "right" one will come along and hit you like a bolt of lighting.

Good decision Don! There are a lot of special deals out there so somewhere down the road you will have something you think is just what you want. You have a great C4, I love the paint and the interior and when you get a new bad ass engine in it, it will make you smile.

Tommy really did hit the nail on the head! as much as my daughter loves her 07 ZO6 she enjoyed driving my 87 more. She felt she had more control and could anticipate what the C4 would do. Granted she has only had a couple months with ZO6 but she maintains its like seating on the front of a runaway freight train at times. Like her boyfriend told her "what sick GM engineer decided to put this bad boy on the streets"
