Good Morning Gurus
Bad way to start the day. Boots, one of our nursery cats, has left us. He got hit by a car sometime last night. This was no ordinary cat. I'm not a big cat person but this cat had personality. He came when you called him, helped you with whatever you were doing, loved everybody and everybody loved him. There are still four other cats out at the nursery. Three of them are just plain ol' cats. Red is friendly like Boots. She roamed in when we first opened the nursery and is now about 10 years old. My wife is really sad about this. Can't say that I blame her. Boots was special. He had a way of bringing a smile to your face. He will surely be missed.

Darn, Sorry to hear that Tommy. Losing pets can be one of the hardest things. I have been through it a few times and it never gets easier that's for sure. This last one, Skipper is really close to me; no doubt an integral part of this family. Its a shame they can't live longer for us. Anyhow sorry for the loss. Give the wife an extra hug today!

That knot on my forehead feels like half a golf ball sticking out of my forehead. Sore too! Funny, I remember Matt just commenting the other day about wrenches falling from the sky when he did his C-Beam!

Well - Good Morning to all of you. I need to get started in my work for the day. The work that pays the bills, not the fun work.

What I just wrote makes me realize how I grow attached to "things". Cars, books, the house, pets, you name it. I grow a bond with things and some of them are just inert, inanimate objects. I feel a loss when they get damaged, broken, stolen or whatever. It's a sickness I tell ya. A sickness.

Good Morning CGs!

Sorry to hear about the cat, Tommy. I'm not a big cat guy, but I understand losing a pet. It's tough.

Not a whole lot to report here. I need to get off my butt and order some little parts for the car to do some work. But I haven't....lol. So maybe on my days off coming up I'll tinker a bit. We'll see.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning guru's! Tommy I know how you feel. I get the same attachments for stuff that has served me well. Maybe that explains the mess in my shop. We have barn cats that come and go but some stay and of those a few big male cats have become my favorites over the years but eventually they drift off or get run over. One Eye'd Jack is a big black cat who is my current favorite.

It's Big Tuesday which means big work and lots of miles to cover. This transition time from hauling products to crop scouting can be dicey trying to get it all done. It is a nice day today and that helps.

Not much else to report, sorry about the goose egg Don it's part of the overall expieriance we all love so much!

Have a productive day today Guru's!

Make sure it stays hydrated. Put an eyedropper full of water in it's mouth if you must. Dehyrdration is a big problem with sick birds. Google up your bird issue. I found out some things that would have helped Birdie when he was sick but unfortunately I was a little too late. They dehydrate quickly.

Hidey-ho! So sorry to hear about Boots, Tommy. Since our last dog, we've pretty much decided on ceramic pats - you don't get attached to them, and they don't eat much. Though I have been thinking about some kind of rabbit-chasing pet lately - we've been over-run with the varmits this past winter and spring.

Went to the little weekly cruise-in at Culvers's last night, decent turn-out, and some sweet cars. A stunning '55 Chevy wagon and a very nice '32 Ford Vicky were my favorites. I was talking to a guy who had an '89 Morgan Plus Eight - very cool little car. There was also a real nice '64 Buick Skylark that still had the original window sticker in the window - it had never been removed. I took some pics but didn't have time to do anything with them last night.

Have a great day, yawlz!

Pets are therapeutic. I love my animals. They keep me company and they don't bitch and moan (most of the time). The local dog pound or animal rescue has plenty of animals in need of a good home. They also give varmints a run for their money. Homes with a barking dog are less likely to get broken into than a home without one. Works better than a home alarm system (that no one responds to).

It still wasn't worth $175 for the beam plates... If the wrench hadn't hit me in the forehead, it would have went pretty smoothly. The rear one's are really pretty easy. The fronts are a little challenging, but I just use the "Force" to help get them started and tightened.

I'll keep an eye on that Tommy but he seems to be drinking water normally.

The little conure is an idiot, always has been. I like to let the birds out of the cages as much as possible but really have to watch them. The little one has always jumped over on the macaw's cage or if they're on the floor, he'll get right into the macaw's face.
3 years ago, the conure jumped on the Kipling's cage while he was inside and stuck his beak thru the bars, Kipling nailed him and bit off half of his lower jaw. Took red to the vet and the vet said it will probably grow back, $89 spent on a $99 bird. It did grow back but wasn't aligned quite right.

In the last 3 weeks, I walked into the bedroom for one minute, both birds were off the cages, down the stairs and into a fight. The macaw bit red in the chest, blood everywhere, and Red had 2 weeks of recovery where he would hardly est.
This week I walked into the kitchen (same room as the livingroom) and Red again jumped on Kipling's cage (think he'd learn but birds are stupid) and got his jaw dislocated to the point where he can't chew anything. It's gut wrenching to watch him try.
But he's surviving on food that I turn into mush with a coffee grinder.
I'm going to cut off a bit of his bottom beak to see if that helps at all, maybe today.

Red's never been a nice bird like Kipling, I don't even like the little prick but I made a commitment to a pet and I'll do what's necessary.

Clip his wings Bill. Don't let them out together. He should heal up again in time. A friend of mine had to have a prosthetic bill put on one of his birds that got in a fight. The price of the pet is nothing compared to the expences run up while having it. If someone offers you a free horse ... run .......

Half the people here have horses, my street sometimes resembles an autocross course, have to whip the wheel on the C4 to avoid the horse puckey.

Besides, I have dirtbikes, when you're done with them, you just push them inti the garage.

Conures are downright ornery and put that against a Macaw and there is trouble. I hope he gets better. In years gone by I was a certified Avian specialists and could help but I have forgotten most of my guru powers. Just keep an eye on him. I might take him to the Vet just to get an opinion. I worry about infection more than anything.

I still have a scar on my right cheek from my Macaw Sunny. He ripped a good chunk of flesh from me one day when he was pissed. And that bird loved me!!

Bird bites. African Grey used my finger to balance himself with his beak twice. Drew blood. Our cockatoo likes to show his displeasure every once in awhile. Pain ..... serious pain. If they can crack open a brazil nut a finger is no challenge. Little birds little bites, big birds YOW! How can they be so smart yet act so stupid. And noise .......

Ya - I have my share of bites too. I was the exotic bird handler for a large pet store chain in the eighties. It was my job to tame the imported birds when they arrived to the store. What a trip... I am so glad they made it illegal to import them. I was witness to some pretty crappy shipping conditions for imported birds and that is after they left quarantine in Florida. Who knows how they arrived in Florida. I miss them. Just seeing your birds makes me miss them even more. I'll dig some of my videos up one day. they are all on the old VHS-C. I need a player to convert them to digital.

Morning guys.....it's been fairly quiet today. I gave the last of my final tests first hour, so it was real quiet then. 2nd hour they kids were pretty lethargic, so I graded the tests.

I've never been much on pets, had a dog when I was a kid, nearly killed me when she died. When we first got married we had a cocker spaniel, I got to the point where I felt sorry for him, because I had no time to play with him, so we gave him away to a family with kids and a fenced yard. That was the last we had. So as my girls got out on their own they each had to try having pets. they all figured the same thing out that I did, no time to play with them and give them quality time. I am sorry for your loss Tommy, and the ailments of your bird Bill.

Starting on the table for my daughter today, better get to it.

Yea, really. The only way to buy a bird is to get a handfed baby. That's the mistake I made with the conure, the little prick.
The macaw was a hand fed. A very nice bird.

Sorry to hear about Boots Tommy.
Busy lately. Senior Class has ask me to give the Commencement Address! 25-35 minutes. Any suggestions Gurus on what to talk about??? Hum..1500 people, the Mayor, school board, pucker factor 8. Closing down the shop for the last time is getting old. Machine, consumables, and hand tool inventory is a time consuming process.
The Vette just sits, no time to drive it. Monsoon season has hit Northern Indiana lately.
My wife is in Seattle visiting her sister, Erin is in Vancover Canada then to London, England.
Well guys its 8:30pm just got home from a school board meeting, and I could eat the bottom out of a bird cage.

That's a big honor Ron. I'd have to think hard about what to say that is uplifting and somewhat inspirational. I think one of the big things that kids don't have is a vision for the future, theirs or the Countrys. More and more it has to be educations job to plant in those mush brains some idea on how they can succede at life. A lot of them aren't getting that at home anymore.

Hell, tell them the Armed Forces has a vision for their lives and then have a bunch of recruiters all set up out in the hall. It will be like a harvest.

You will do great!

Thanks Marcus. Seniors want to know how a 67 grad from my alma mater, becomes a combat vet, then became a teacher at his old high school. Commitment, being focused seem to be the values they want me to talk about. Gets me to think about how far I have come, Damn! I should'nt be here! I think its those times when the odds are stacked against you that you make this pact with God, that if you get me out of this I'll do something good for humanity. Hum.. I think I have the beginning of my presentation.

Hello guys,
My "first" chat post.
Sorry to hear about Boots Tommy. We're pet folks, three dogs. Had to put down my daughters cat last year, we got the cat for her at her 8th birthday. The cat passed the night of my daughters senior prom. It was tough....
They're a part of our lives and I believe they give us as much love as we give them.

Have a good evening guys...........

Well guys, I made a big booboo. I said there wasn't much going on and I was wrong. Today is rugrat #1's bday. 3 years old already. I forgot because we actually did her presents last night and her party isn't til Saturday. So that was a goof on my part. Luckily, 3 year olds don't understand the concept of time

Hope everyone had a great day!

Matthew
