Bitch all you want... pictures will come tonite.

But... I saw the Shuttle pass by my building just a few minutes ago.

It flew over the 110 freeway, at the 91, near Gardena, CA. It was actually a mile or 2 west of that area, I am guess. VERY low, 1500-2000 ft.

I will be processing the pics tonight... I hope they came out. The shuttle and 747 are both painted in a shade of smog blue/white that seriously matches our sky.

I got a few good shots on it's first flyby over LAX and on final approach from our parking structure just outside LAX's south runway. But I can't bring my camera into the office, so I'll post mine tonight too.

My office (brick building in fourth picture) is literally across the street from LAX. So I had a pretty good view from our parking structure.

They buzzed the tarmac at LAX right before their last loop (over Andy's office):

Those are GREAT pictures, Nelson!!!

Sadly, I only caught the shuttle going north on it's first approach to LAX. I didn't realize this was the first approach.

Apparently, it did that 2nd loop that passed right by my office.

See the map. Points of reference... there are two red dots... one down near the port, that's about where my house is. The other is in the middle, that's where I work... The yellow dot is about where Nelson works. The red line is an approx route that it took. I missed some turns, I am sure of that. The big yellow arrow is pointing at LAX.

So here is the only pic I took worth seeing... it sucks.

Sorry, but this one WAS built here...

Although I am too young to have designed any part of the Shuttle, I have designed some electronics hardware for stuff that went up in the Shuttle. My brother Ted has also designed some of the same hardware. My brother Virgil has machined some hard parts for the Space Program.
So, it brought a tear to my eye seeing the Shuttle pass and hearing the crowd cheer. I'm really glad NASA (and others) spent the money to share this little glimpse with the American public.

I'm currently involved with designing hardware for the flight computer for NASA's Shuttle replacement, the Space Launch System (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Launch_System). I'm certain it'll be decades or longer, and I'll be long gone, before we have another similar opportunity to celebrate our national Space Program.

Glad y'alls enjoyed the photos. Next month the Shuttle will be towed to the California Science Center here in Los Angeles, its final resting place. I'll snap some ground-level shots when that trek gets under way.

That would be a cool place to visit.

During the initial build and test of the Enterprise, I was part of a team at Northrop that built wiring harnesses. Just a big build board and lots of changes. We figured we built enough for 20 shuttles. Never did get a chance to see her land at Edwards. Hopefully I'll be in town to watch this one roll off LAX. Lunch Andy?

More information is coming out regarding Endeavor’s route through LA and Inglewood on October 12 and 13. So far, it looks like traffic around LAX could be impacted severely on October 12.

Endeavor will leave LAX at 2 am and then park in Westchester behind Quiznos from about 7:00 am to 2:30 pm. It has to park so some power lines can be moved at the last minute to allow it to proceed. Streets around the Westchester business district will be closed some or all of the day. These include Lincoln between Sepulveda and Manchester, Westchester Parkway, La Tijera (to Manchester), Sepulveda Eastway (the street near Coffee Co. just east of Quiznos), 87th Street (where Ayara is) and Truxton (87th to Manchester). Significantly, Manchester will be closed from La Tijera into Inglewood all day. That probably includes all intersections on Manchester, so it will be hard to cross Manchester.

Sepulveda is not supposed to close, except for the time near 7 am when the shuttle crosses Sepulveda, but there may be a backup of traffic since the Manchester off-ramps will be closed. Century and the 105 should also be crowded.

Employees who are here on Friday should be able to see Endeavor parked in Westchester from our windows; look just south of the Staples sign. There will be a private event in Westchester 7:30 am to 9:30 am. The public can walk to the Endeavor to take photos, but parking will be very tight since all the streets around the Endeavor will be closed.

Notably for those of us who are familiar with this area, Endeavor will stop for a photo op and Toyota commercial filming at Randy’s Donuts at Manchester and La Cienega.

Endeavor will spend Friday night in Inglewood at the Forum or on Manchester near Inglewood City Hall. On Saturday it will travel east to Crenshaw and north to Martin Luther King for another ceremony before arriving at Exposition Park.

Not necessarily mine, but just another point of view and maybe some food for thought about all the hoopla surrounding the last voyage of the Endeavor.
