Acquired my 5th vette yesterday. A 1992 hatchback - auto - targa top - dark red metallic - stock. I sold vette #4, a 2002 auto-vert, in Feb.
thinking I was out of the Corvette business. I am 80, and I have retired from a lot of 'businesses', but it seems the Corvette business is highly
contagious.

To find a particular vette, at the right price, in your own 'backyard', is an
absolute delight. I have always enjoyed my vettes, especially making the commute from Santa Cruz, CA to San Jose, CA before my retirement in 1987.

The '02 C5 is a great automobile, and I purchased it because most comments suggested how much more user-friendly it was over the C4. Well, to me, the C4 has more appealing lines than the C5, and the C5 seemed to be a little too 'plush' for a sports car. My C5 handled and performed superbly, but I was never enthralled with the lines of the C5.

Anyway, my 1992 was first purchased by a woman in Carmel, CA, and
she drove it for 40K miles. The second owner was a high-school auto-shop teacher and watchmaker (now retired), and he drove it for 23K miles. The '92 is flawless, all stock, and looks very close to being new inside and out. The shop-teacher performed what maintenance was required, including the opti and brakes.

The shop-teacher is a craftsman concerning maintenance, but 'short' on the detail end. Dust and spatter in the wheel wells, and a little grime in the engine bay don't concern him. They concern me, as this vette will not move until the last speck of dust and grime is removed.

When getting in the vette during my inspection day, I was thinking that my exit would not be kind to this old body, remembering my difficulty with my '93 ruby, but it almost seemed easier than exiting my C5.

So, $8300 lighter in the wallet, and 63000 on the odometer, I will spend what ever time I have left on this earth enjoying my vette. If any of you have the dreaded 'vette fever', I think you will understand.

Excellent.

I bought my 92 @ 64k.

Opti, alternator but that's all I've done in 6 years.

I have a few tricks on washing down the motor.

Thank you, Bill. When you have a chance, please post that photo again
with your vette in front of that 'shack'. That is a great pic.

Also, when the 2013 Reno race schedule is published, please alert me to
the races in which you will be involved. Really enjoy the Reno trip, and meeting-up with you at the track would be great.

Hey, Don.
The 2013 schedule won't be out until Feb.

It's not real racing, just Time Trials and Performance Driving Experirnce (Guys/gals in cars like your's with an instructor).

Racing costs too much for me anymore.

How bout a pic at 6,500 feet looking down at my shack?

That is a great shot, but not the one I remember. If your vette is silver,
it was parked in front of a delapidated structure (barn, out-house).
That is the one I would like to see again.

As always, enjoy the ride

Thanks, Tommy, and many thanks for the C4 videos you posted yesterday.

In addition to your 'Hot Chicks Friday' post you might add
a C4 story or video, also. You guys don't think about it, but there are no 80 year-old 'hot chicks'. A C4 in motion, in fact, any Corvette in motion, is a pleasure to see to these old eyes.

Thank you, 'engine doc'. Good for you dad..... he had his priorities adjusted nicely.

I see you are just located just inland from Andy, and have been an engine builder for many years. Lucky Andy, to have such a resource readily available. When I read your responses to Andy's fire dilemma,
I should have know there was a rare expertise awaiting to help.

Maybe it works both ways...... you might be fortunate to be located to a person in dire need for engine support.

Hope you can get Andy & Bastet44 both back on road in vettes. Waiting to hear about that........ and I don't have much time.

Good luck, David. Nice to hear from you.

At 82.....Paul Newman ran his last race in a 700 horse tubeframe GT1 Corvette (a high G force car)....and he won.

The car just sold for big bucks BTW.

I hope you are not suggesting I follow in Newman's racing endeavors, Bill. Never owned a Corvette because it was 'hot'. I enjoyed the styling, and just knowing that it was 'hot,' was justification.

And to think Newman had a drinking problem at one time. Not a good mix with racing. Hope to make 82.

He was a very, very good driver.

This gives me inspiration. Just retired and just hit 67 and had a few surgeries this year. I find it is tough getting up off the creeper after I have been under the Corvette.
I am planning on purchasing one that is a bit less labor intensive or paying someone to do the work. Probably wouldn't hurt to lose 50# too.
There used to be a guy from Vegas who was in his mid 80s and drove a 6-speed Ruby. His name was Vetteseniorcitizen on the big forum. His daughter got on the board and let us know when he passed on a few years ago.

Hi Ron.... Thanks for the reply..... get over the surgeries, lose some weight, and buy a vette.

My '02 C5 was dream car.... zero maintenance, but my heart was with the C4. Just fortunate to find a vette in the neighborhood.

Hope you find a fun Corvette..... keep me posted.
