So, now that Andy seems to have his 1992 under control, it's time for the rest of us to consider what we're up to with our Corvettes this year. I'll start:

1985 (Lauren); replace the entire center console lid assembly (the underside is starting to crack), replace the passenger side power window assembly (near death), fix the the flighty rear defogger, perhaps replace the faded and brittle carpeting, decide wether to get serious about AACA judging, start thinking about wether I'm going to finally pull the trigger on a full repaint

2003 (Grace); get some replacements for the aging aftermarket floormats, replace the front spoiler (wear part! ), celebrate her 10th birthday, drive her more when the weather gets nice

2012 (Louis); get another set of wheels for the summer tires - probably these

http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/p-48 ... x95-1997-2004-c5-z06.aspx

- but I'm not locked in yet.

What's everybody else up to this year?

I'm not sure yet - I may just take my car up to Doug Rippie's shop this spring and let them figure out what is wrong with it.

Your GS looks great with chrome wheels - my view on chrome is influenced by the color of the car involved. The closest thing I have to chrome is the stock wheels on the 1985, which are a little too bright compared to the original finish.

Yep, very cheap and easy and they will look great. I liked the brush on kits best. The paint is about as thin as water, but it adheres great and looks good for a long, long time. But are you sure you want red? I would go with silver or black for your car.

I can't even think of anything that the vette needs. But I might swap the pick up for a 4x4 version.

About the only thing I have planned, and the key word here is "planned",is replacing the half shaft u-joints and possibly the rear hubs.
Got to get the enthusiasm level a little higher first.

Yeah.....I have about come to the same conclusion. The factory calipers are silver with the Corvette logo in red and I think I will stay with that.....It looks good....thanks for your comment.....

Bill, I have 3 free track days at AMP. Problem is I can't use them without a roll cage and putting a roll cage in a C5 vert is too expensive. I don't think taking my beater of a pick up would be any fun.

BTW, you shouldn't need a cage, just a rollbar with 2 support legs extending to the rear and a crossbrace on the hoop. That would pass my tech.
And that could be made "bolt in".

Biggest problem is that both gas tanks need to be removed, which also requires removing the torque tube, which requires removing the rear, etc. Then it would have to be removable in order to put the top up, anything low enough for the top won't pass tech either. Best rough esimate I got was about $3K, which is way too much for the few times I would take it on the track.

Kevin, you are a prime example of BSMEs I recruited for IBM out of Cal Poly. Before you were born - 1969-70, I recruited engineers for IBM from seven Western States colleges and universities. Those years were
not great on the economic scale, so IBM hiring focused on recent grads.
I'm pleased to tell you that IBM hired more grads from Cal Poly than all
the other schools combined.

One senior IBM engineering manager made a comment that he liked the
Cal Poly engineering applicants because they had 'dirty fingernails'.
That was not a derogatory remark concerning personal hygiene, but a
sincere compliment to the engineering department at Cal Poly. His remark meant that the Cal Poly grads came to work with hands-on experience (knowing that many engineering students worked on their cars).

At last report, Cal Poly was still turning out talented engineering grads.
Take pride in having a BSME from Cal Poly.

I'm going to repaint my vette this winter. I decided to do it myself. I have decided on Lexus Blue.
http://www.primequip.net/products/Pro ... 27/blue_paint_choices.htm

It's a base/clear pearl paint.
I've started stripping the car apart last week, but won't get back to it until later next week.
I'll be turning my garage into a spray booth.
Shortly after, I'll be sourcing a good divorce lawyer.

Well, John... you are right, I actually DROVE it today!!!

I have a few other projects to do:

1. Redo the A/C on my 92
2. Update the audio on my 92
3. Get bastet44's back together with an new engine (5.3l truck motor - a 327!)

Plus general clean up and such.

When you fix the power windows on the 85, I know you NCRS it, but do they remove the door panels? If not, upgrade to the newer regulator. Then it will be ribbons gone!

I've got a new set of P/S hoses to install, hoping that's where my fluid leak is coming from.

Also may be replacing the water pump. The current one seems to be getting a little noisy, want to find out why on my own terms.

Other than that, just a few odds and ends when I feel like it.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm surprised how many other calpoly grads I run into down here in my field. Seems very disproportionate for how many engineering students there are in california. Maybe the others home playing video games, I don't know.

I don't have anything to compare to but I always wished the curriculum and labs were more hands on then they are. The big limit on that though is how many private donations they can get, because the state doesn't even cover the bare bones. So the tuition has gone up and the dirty fingernails have probably gotten a little bit cleaner as money gets tight. Cal poly though gets a lot more donations than the the other state schools.

When I went there, they said 45% of new ME students accepted to both berkeley and cal poly chose cal poly, so that's not bad company. The acceptance rate then was 17%, so it's gotta be less now.
