1st, I hate politics and despise politicians!

That said, regardless of what other countries think, for the time being we're still the most powerful nation in the world.

I could give a rats butt less that they think. Let them disrespect our choice for president, be it male, female, black, white or fukkin' purple! and see what that gets them?

Nothing! NADA! ZIP! ZILCH!

Muslim countries want to do it themselves? Please, feel free...I'd just as soon pull our troops out of that wasteland and bolster our internal security and borders. They want to kill each other...be my guest

You need economic help? Sure.....Lets see what happens when the M.E. can't dump thier oil? They can't eat or drink it and can't build on it....

So please, look somewhere else...maybe someplace with a white aglo-saxon protestant president

We may be the most powerful militarily. But that's about it. We are not the wealthiest per capita, we are not the smartest either. We are the most diversified nation for sure. We have some of everything. So whomever takes the helm, they are in charge of the strongest military force in the world. Then the will of the politicians of the United States be done.

Even if Hillary or Obama were president, there would still be plenty of old white male windbags controlling this country.

Better to have a purple president that represents us well, than a white dictator.

I will base my choice on quality of character and stance on issues. Not on gender or race. The rest of the world will find a way to deal with whatever choice we make. It couldn't be too much worse than what we've got. (I hope)

I'm never again voting for someone as Commander in Chief who does not have military experience.

And I guess that eliminates 2 out of 3 candidates this year.

Check this out for some interesting reading:

Perhaps the best way to judge quality of character is based on those people's careers prior to political involvement. Unfortunately, some of these politicians do not have a life before politics.

I disagree. This bush is one of the best things that has happened to the USA. We needed a good kick in the ass and to be honest I think we still do to get us back on track. Our economy is in the crapper and we need someone with big nutz to piss on the oil companys.

it's true. The economic power this country wields is epic. We burp, the world markets take a shit. There is no other nation that could hang with us militarily speaking, either. The former Soviet Union has a lot of stuff, but no resources to mobilize, and we know how their weapons match up with ours - not well.

There hasn't been a single country to have such economic control since the British Empire prior to WWII. At that time, the British Pound was worth in the neighbourhood of $4 to $5 USD. And that was prewar dollars. I would estimate that with all the various games one can play with indexes and such, that a 1938 British Pound would be worth close to $20.00 USD today.

The Chinese are poised to be the next epic power, but their finances are still artifically controlled, so until that changes, it will be a while. And their military isn't up to ours in quality, just quantity.

We are borrowing to pay our debts at a tremendous rate that will have an impact on our country for generations to come. Our economy has burped but the impact is not as it used to be. Many growing nations are putting pressure on the natural resources pool that the US has been hogging up for the past century. We had warnings in the 70's but Americans have continued on our wasteful ways. We have essentially bought our way out by being willing to pay a higher price to enjoy our extravagant lifestyle. Our personal lifestyles always cry out for more. Bigger houses and smaller cellphones, bigger egos with smaller wallets. Who will be Americas next ?

Okay, I dont want this to become a huge battle BUT lets set the record straight, #1 this nation has ALLWAYS been in debt, #2 inflation drove the price of gas up not bush, #3 we ALLWAYS had enemies. Lastly how in the hell could anyone feel good about what Sadam was doing? He was killing tons of people just because of their race! We HAD to step in because NO ONE else would. Everyone deserves the right to choose freedom....everyone.

I dont have much of an idea what im talking about here and i dont really care to look into it cause its all kiddy bullshit anyway, but from what i do know, what you say here seems like a pretty spot on account, and it is my opinion that you were far better off before Bush, and so were alot of other countries in the world. Some were not, but they got themselves there. Bush's bullshit war on terror cost this country many millions as well, not to mension the lives it cost the US, and the man should be repremanded serverely for it.

There is no future in war, it just wastes alot of money and costs alot of lives. And tell me exactly where did it get you all? It got you billions in debt and alot of your fellow country men and women were sacrificed for no positive result.

Im all for defending your own country, but seems quite pointless to me to go and invade another country with the intent of war.

It got Iraq its freedom. Sometimes we have to stand up for the little people. I hate to bring this up but I have been there and seen with my own eyes the result of us being there and I KNOW that I made a difference and I KNOW we gave them their freedom. Seems everyone has a sour face for bush but he stood up when he needed to. This war on terror was going to happen one day regardless of who brought it up. The terrorists need to be stopped. But each one of you around the world is entitled to your own opinion and I can not change your opinion. So I am done expelling my hot gas

Bush only stood up when there was something in it for him. I remember abit of a conflict a few years back that was not unlike the one you describe, and when asked for assistance, Bush said no. Although it was ok for us to offer ours to him and get ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in return, because there was nothing in it for him, he wasnt interested.

Take a look at the crime in your country, the level of it in some parts there is out of control, instead of worrying about what is going on over there, id be more concerned about getting your own country in order. Sure we have crime here too, but mate its nothing like what youve got there. We have poverty here too, but its a far cry from what youve got over there. If all that money Bush wasted on his bullshit war was put into your own country and getting those affairs in better order, i think it wouldve been money far better spent.

Bush was in many ways as much of a dictator as anyone else was. He is not a good hearted man, and he did not have your country's best interests at heart.

i agree with you, we are always trying to save other countries, but ourselves... we have money for wars, but can't feed the poor here... you have to learn, you can't save everybody... thats why i've always lived by the saying "cover your arse" no one else will

and gas prices didn't soar until bush got into office, so what does that tell you? we are having to finish what his old man didn't have the grapefruits to finish... if you can't finish a job, then you have no buisness going in

Crime was here long before Bush ever got in office. One of our main problems is not taking a harder position on drug dealers. This problem started 50 years ago. The democrats in our country have taken a "Let's not be too harsh" kind of attitude.

We have become too "Politically correct." Our country has taken a position of not offending many minority groups. Please don't mistake what I am saying. I am not a racist, but the democrats in our country do not want us to tap phone calls on possible terrorists, because they think we should protect their rights. Hell, if someone is planning an attack on our country, we should have every right to tap their phone calls.

If we took a harder position on terrorists, drug dealers and others causing serious problems in our country we would not have the crime. You mention how large our crime is. It is that way because we slap them on the wrists and don't enforce harder punishment.

Let me ask you a question. If a group of people took over your country and you could not protect yourselves, would you not want help? Let's say the people who took over your country were killing people because they did not like them enjoying sports cars, or because they went to the wrong churches, or believed in freedom. Add to this that they had control of your military forces and you were helpless to defend yourself. Would you rather us say f*ck you it is your problem, or would you want help?

I think you know the answer. It would be terrible if someone wanted to gas you, torture you, or kill you just because you wanted to drive a Corvette.

Think about it.

Oaklands, youve missed most if not all the point of my coment. It wont ever happen here for a start. And the last time our prime minister asked for your country's assistance in a simular matter, we WERE told NO by Bush. So i reckon even if we did have a problem here we couldnt handle, America would be the last to offer help going on previous experience, cause we have nothing here for you to benefit from.

Seems there is alot of people in that country that take a "holier than thou" stance to the rest of the world and for some reason think we should get down on our knees and beg to be your faithful slave. Not all over there are like that and im not saying you are one of them, but i know ive met a hell of a lot that are.

Jeffvette, you just did touch it.

Z51, our fuel costs started going up not long after Bush took the wheel over there too.

Case'

I believe I understand where your coming from. We must remember that your country is much smaller in population with controlled borders. Your government appears to have a better handle of managing its laws and does not have to answer to the world. The USA has a complex and out of control government, that is held accountable to each and every world event.

As a sailor I traveled half the world during the VietNam War and was treated to the world with a different view than was presented by our media then. It's apparent the our citizens are arrogant and pompous when traveling abroad and our media and entertainment standards are rude and thoughtless.

So then we look towards one person that is "elected" to serve as the spokesperson to the world. Yes, Bill and George have not necessarily been the pinnacle of this position. Personally Bill was an absolute embarrassment to the highest position of our land and this is the reason the most folks will not vote for his wife. George on the other hand was not really the best person for the job. BUT! he was the better of the two choices we've had at the past two elections.

Now we count down to the next president that once again we have to decide on one.

As a nation that originally based its freedom on "Taxation without representation", (LOL!) we loose almost 60% of our paychecks to taxes. And the Democratic wisdom is based on raising taxes and making us more dependent upon the government. THere is actually a law still on the books that allows one to not pay taxes. But the courts do not let us exersize this law freely. We have out of control borders, a legal system that has run amuck and polititions that are not accountable for their own actions be it legal or illegal.

All this being said, this is my country. I have fought for it's flag where others had died. Our next president will not be any better than those he has preceded. Because he leads a government that is unchanging.

So, like it or not its my country and I'm standing by it's flag.

World population 6.6 billion

China 1.3 billion
India 1.0 billion
USA 303 million
Australia 20 million

wow....this thread is a tough one. i definitely think we are taxed without reasonable representation. it seems as if we only handle certain people's agenda instead of what would benefit the majority. its also aggrevating to see that a few deligates can wipe out the national popular vote. if you are a real american, the longer you think about the issues we have, the more pissed off you'll be. it would be nice if we could actually get a president that spent his life in the middle or lower class. i guess i will stop before i say something that will get me arrested or jepordize my future polictical career

I know this is like dropping a bomb but here it goes.

The current form of government in this country is antiquated and really should be revamped. The IRS is unnecessary, Congress and the Senate are really not needed to make the decisions as a result of modern technology. The Supreme Court should stay to make sure that any new laws past are Constitutional and certainly laws and ammendments should be reviewed. Certainly keep a sitting President to represent American interests throughout the world. This may sound a little radical but the voice of the people should be the people.
Congressmen and Senators were created at a time when communication was difficult and their voices were needed to protect the interests of their constituates. That is no longer the case. The ship is way to top heavy and somebody has to get off before we all drowned.
And now that I'm up on he podium. ALL party Presidential primaries throughout each state should be on the same day and we could stop this dog and pony show. The delegate vote is a waste and the elections should go with the popular vote. Just think of all the time and money that would be saved.
These are more just passing thoughts and I haven't spent a lot of time thinking about it. They are just ramblings.

I have to go. There are a couple of guys in a van that just parked outside my house.

the best thing ever, LMAO... before he took over in office we were billions in surplus, and now we are like what, 35 billion in the hole? before bush took over, we had reasonable gas prices, little to no enemies in the world... so clinton got a little sucky sucky in the oval office, but look at the bright side... no one got killed over it

As others have mentioned I too struggled to stay out of this one but mate I have to admit reading this thread disturbs me. I really felt our two countries were the closest of allies but I am troubled to see you and another of your countrymen bashing the US in a public forum. Was my perception about the friendly people in your country during my visit an illusion or was that deception on the part of you Aussies? I'd be very disappointed to discover that, I thought you took great pride in being straight forward and truthful, perhaps I am naive.

I find it interesting that one of you berates President Bush, while the other criticizes replacing him with a woman or African American. Our country certainly has its problems and many here dislike the current administration, in all likelihood results of our next election will reflect that. Americans embrace our freedom of speech and freely criticize our politicians and President, but we get pissed when people from other countries do so, I expect you would feel the same if I started bad mouthing your PM. As friends if you and I choose say such things in private I take it as a matter of trust they will go no further out of mutual respect for the homelands we both hold dear. You made the statement that you really don't know much about our politics and a reasonable man should take that as a cue not to get involved. I'll be the first to admit I know little about Australian politics and even if I did I would not use the forum to express negative feelings if I had them which I don’t’.

I would like to know the details of the incident you alluded to regarding lack of US support for Australia rather than some vague "last time we asked" so I can better understand your comments. My theory about mistakes goes something like this, the only way to avoid them entirely is to do nothing at all and I don't see that as being something to brag about. There is nothing easier to do than complain, solutions for problems require action, once taken we run the risk of mistakes, but failure to take action guarantees the status quo. Disagreements occur even between the best of friends, resolving them rather than becoming enemies is the true test of friendship.

I doubt any country on the planet is proud of every official action ever taken by their government, what little I do know about Australia tells me you have made mistakes concerning treatment of your indigenous people, just as we have. When looking at the big picture however as red-johnny said, I am proud of American values and assistance to others, I am sure you are just as proud to be Australian. I won't bash your country in public; kindly do the same for mine. I think an apology is called for and will be disappointed if it is not forthcoming.

If all that money Bush wasted on his bullshit war was put into your own country and getting those affairs in better order, i think it wouldve been money far better spent.

well put casey that spineless a$$hole is anoil man only looking out for 1 thing

Bush was in many ways as much of a dictator as anyone else was. He is not a good hearted man, and he did not have your country's best interests at heart.

Do you honestly think that was the point, were his first 6 reasons for invading Iraq not adequate? There are plenty of atrocities in the world that GW doesn't throw many tax dollars at, why would he care about anyone's freedom in Iraq? It became this huge cluster**** because people can't admit they were wrong. "Stay the course" is a b.s. line if you don't have a course to begin with. GW and his administration gambled and went "all in" on a losing hand, pure and simple.

I'm thinking our involvement there has fueled more terrorism than it's extinguished. Sometimes you can't fight fire with fire. In the end, who is the good guy is all a matter of opinion, and more bullets isn't going to change anyone's mind.

Why can't we just hire a few assassins next time? I'll put my tax dollars on that.

Oh NO!!!! We can't do that! Congress has mandated that this type of "equalizer" lowers us to "their" level. So I guess its OK to just blow the shit out of them! Sound good to me.

As for slowing down terrorism, Yep. IT works. Those fools are concentrating on Iraq and showing their hand. In the mean time the free world is shoring up their defenses and underground networks.

But as long as Muslims walk the earth, there will always be senseless killings in the name of Alla.

SO whats the point anymore? I'm glad I can still own a gun.

I'm not joining this discussion, but Steve, I'm trying to interpret your post. In your own opinion, are you saying that this possibility is actually a good thing or a bad thing?

It doesn't matter anyways, the old white man is going to beat either of them.

Which doesn't seem to bode well for anyone hoping to spend less tax dollars in Iraq. Oh well, better than paying for national healthcare I guess.
