Good morning gang.

Not much going on.

Should be a nice day today and humid again.

Well I have some big changes in my life going to happen. We found out a month or so ago that our jobs here where I work are going away. So that leaves 8 people who will be out of work. One is close enough to retirement and he isn't to worried the rest of us are well just floored. It makes coming to work each day a challenge when you know the services you provide are not appreciated. So I am flying out to Tucson next week for a job interview with the same company just a different division. Ok enough about me let's get the day started.

Word of the Day Wednesday, August 20, 2014

singultus \ sing-GUHL-tuhs \, noun;

1.Medicine/Medical. a hiccup.

Origin:

Singultus comes from the Latin word of the same spelling meaning "a sob" or "speech interrupted by sobs." It entered English in the mid-1700s.

Today is NATIONAL RADIO DAY

Each year on August 20, National Radio Day celebrates the great invention of the radio.

In the late 19th century, it became clear that wireless communication was possible.

There were several inventors that had a part in the invention of the radio in the late 1800′s and not just one person can be credited with it’s beginning. To make the radio a reality, it required a number of different inventions and discoveries including both transmission and reception methods as well as technology.

It was in the 1920′s when the first broadcast stations began airing programs. These first programs were those of news and world events.
◦ Radio ownership grew from two out of five homes in 1931 to four out of five homes in 1938.

◦According to FCC statistics, at the end of 2012, there were more than 15,000 licensed broadcast radio stations in the U.S.

To celebrate National Radio Day, listen to your favorite radio station and give a special recognition to your local radio personalities.

Happy National Radio Day!

NATIONAL RADIO DAY HISTORY

NATIONAL LEMONADE DAY

In the midst of a hot summer day, nothing is more refreshing than a tall glass of ice-cold lemonade! Annually celebrated during the summer month of August on the 20th, it is National Lemonade Day.

Research shows that the earliest mention of lemonade stems from 10th century Egypt. Trade in lemon juice was quite common and the people liked to drink the lemon juice with sugar added.

Today, lemonade is made from fresh fruit, reconstituted from frozen juice, dry powder or liquid concentrate and it is colored in a variety of shades. Usually served in a tall glass with ice, it is also sometimes served frozen into a slush or Popsicle-type dessert. There are artificially sweetened and artificially flavored lemonade versions that have become popular as well. Another popular version is the artificially flavored alcoholic lemonade drinks.

Enjoy a nice TALL glass of ice-cold lemonade today!

Howdy! Gonna start to be hot and muggy here, just in time for the state fair tomorrow. I haven't been there in decades, and don't have any plans to attend this year, either. But you can get just about any food you want on a stick. Some of those food stands make out like bandits - I think the top-grossing stand hauled in about $2.5 million over 12 days last year.

Mojo to you, too, Tommy!

Have a good day, all!

Good morning, all!

Best of luck, Mike.

Hang in there, Tommy.

Mid 80s and sunny in the Philadelphia area today. Watching the weather for Corvettes at Carlisle this weekend - we'll be there early Friday morning, when the prediction is low eighties with a chance of showers in the morning, thunderstorms in the afternoon (I'll take it). For Saturday (the busiest day), highs in the seventies and more showers.

Good Morning CGs!

Just got back from dropping RR#1 off at school. She rode her bike and I walked with her. It's about 3/4 mile each way. Pretty hot and humid today so I'm sweating a bit.

Mike - it seems like you just got settled in and now time for a move again. Crazy. Good luck.

Tommy - good luck with your issue. You said it's big, so hopefully it's not hemorrhoids.

Brad - last fair we went to, the prices were insane at the food stands. For the rides, as well. I am shocked at how much it costs, but more so by the people that actually pay the prices.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

I think that is why they can make 2.5 million in 12 days...back in 78 me and some buds had 1500 Sturgis T shirts printed up and took them to Sturgis....we found that drunk bikers were an easy sale.....we grossed 11 or 12K in 7 days......we ate big steakes and smoked big cigars....and did a lot of laughing.....

Letting things fall into place. So far so good but I've been on one hell of a ride. My mind is toast and my belly has an empty feeling. Probably because I haven't eaten. Let's see where this sojourn ends. It is not really in my control. And that's all I have to say about that.

Sand, sand, sand.

The main body of the car is done EXCEPT for 2 waves in one fender. We'll reprimer that tomorrow for more block sanding.

All that's left is to wet sand the doors, hood and a couple small parts.

If you sand primer long enough, it looks like it's clear coated.

That's the way the Millennium Yellow for the C5 is, it actually has red pearl in it.

I REALLY lucked out at the paint store today. The paint cost half of what I thought it was going to.

I'll be using the top of the line PPG Concept 2002 paint and the Concept 2002 Clear with the highest solids content.

Thanks M.

It's a shitload of work.

After all the fiberglass repairs, I shot one coat of PPG K36, the expensive urethane primer and wet sanded that.

Then any small deviation was filled with glazing filler, the good stuff, not what you see on the shelf at AutoZone.
There is no glazing on the car that's over 1/32ond thick.

Then, shot 3 full coats of K36 , it's really hard to sand.

Then spray a guide coat of flat black.

The entire car was then block sanded with 320 dry.

Another guide coat.

Then block sanded again with 400 wet.

Another guide coat.
Then hand sanded with 600 wet.

The primer is extremely flat, now, if this was a show car, we'd shoot 2 more coats of primer and do it all again.

Next, spray one coat of PPG primer sealer.

3 color coats

3 clear coats.

Block sand the whole damn thing again and break out the buffer.

I'm waitin' with bad breath.

Hopefully , I can finish all the 600 wet sanding easily tomorrow.

The primer on the fender will have to dry overnite, but the blocking will be less than one hour.

All the masking paper has to come off, all dust removed and redone. Masking the car can take 5 hours.

So, maybe 3 days to get in the booth, maybe longer.

Since this is a private shop for retired guys, we don't have "business hours", and working 8 hours cuts into beerthirty.

At least the booth ain't dusty.

It will take at least 2 days in the spray booth.

We'll spray primer sealer, color and clear on the same day.

But the first masking and shooting will be:

The door jams, the inside of the doors, underside of the hood, all the small parts like the headlight buckets.

Let that dry overnight.

Then pull the masking off the body, install the doors, remask and shoot the body with the doors on.

Seriously, with all the photos you have, you should write a book when it's done. It's gonna be one hell of an accomplishment!

Thanks Brad.

But, a lot of the guys I hang out with do this all the time.
And the books have already been written, quite a few actually.

It is looking so good Bill. After all this time of us giving you sh!t about your car, and how long it has taken. (even though it was all in fun, at least on my part), we are all going to eat our words when this baby comes out.

Are you going to have the engine and drivetrain installed before you marry the body and chassis?

Yea, I don't want to hang the eng/trans assembly over the new paint.

But I don't have the bucks for rebuilds yet. Trans is $200 and about $1,700 or so for the motor.

And I do have to build the chassis, not counting the calipers, all the new chassis parts (which you and Rosie saw) are sitting here and all the components (trailing arms, etc.)are already painted.

When I bring the car home next week, it's gonna get parked for a while. I have a 1970 Formula Ford to build which may pay for the motor/trans. Funny how that works.

In 1970, a Ford pickup tee-boned my 63 Vert. So, I had to learn glass work.
The rest of the bodywork, I learned by doing it on my early cars and I sucked at it back then.

It goes with the mechanical stuff, I started working on drag cars when I was 13.
Along the way I got an Associate Degree in Automotive Technology and a B.S. in Automotive Engineering.
Had a scholarship from Borg Warner.
