Good morning gang.

Was an interesting drive in. We had freezing rain overnight. Some of the roads were ok and some weren't. The temps should rise to near 40 today so going home should be ok.

Word of the day is sodality.

Today is NATIONAL CORN CHIP DAY

National Corn Chip Day is celebrated annually on January 29th. National Corn Chip Day is not to be confused with National Tortilla Chip Day which is held in February. Corn chips have been enjoyed by us all since they were first invented by Fritos The story is that according to the company website (http://www.fritolay.com/) C.E. “Elmer” Doolin was frustrated that tortillas just did not stay fresh long enough at his store. One day in 1932, he met a man selling fried corn chips. After he pawned his mama’s wedding ring, he paid the man $100 for his recipe (in those days that was a lot of money). The family experimented with the recipe until they came up with the perfect concoction, began selling his crisps from his Model T Ford, and the rest is history. The American corn chips snack was born.

Hundreds of recipes for corn chips and dips can be found on websites and in cookbooks everywhere.

On January 29, enjoy some corn chips while doing a puzzle or two!!

NATIONAL CORN CHIP DAY HISTORY

We have read the history of the corn chip however, the origin of the National Corn Chip Day, an unofficial holiday, has yet to be found. It is possible that this holiday may have been created by the greeting card industry.

NATIONAL PUZZLE DAY

NATIONAL PUZZLE DAY, an unofficial holiday, is always celebrated on January 29th. There are puzzle celebrations and events held at museums, libraries and other venues around the country. Crossword puzzles are the most common however, Sudoku is the most recent puzzle rage. There are puzzles that fit into the needs of every person and every skill level, for the young and the old. There are also word search puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, puzzle books and many many more. Maybe you would like to find a puzzle game and challenge your friends or check with your local library or a website for a puzzle game. There are many ways to have lots of fun!

NATIONAL PUZZLE DAY HISTORY

The puzzle here is, by whom and when National Puzzle Day started. There is no evidence to suggest that this is truly a “National” day, which requires an act of

Morning guys....quite a change in the weather overnight. Wind started blowing 30-40mph from the north. Only going to be low 40s today, about 30 colder than yesterday.

SUNNY AND WINDY IN THE NATIONS TODAY, 50 DEGREES AND WIND LIKE WESTERN OKLAHOMA (OR KANSAS).

NEVER MADE IT TO THE RANGE, WIND GOT UP AND SHIFTED TO EAST, NOW IT'S NORTH WEST, TOMORROW MAY BE CALM. PREDICTING WEATHER IN OK IS ONE JOB WHERE YOU CAN BE WRONG WITHOUT MUCH CRITICISM :-)

Good Morning CGs!

Chilly here as well.

House projects are in swing this week. Wife decided she didn't like the built-in cabinets and benches in the basement so I had to rip those out. Of course the carpet went up to them so in place I will lay some tile and we will put up some IKEA type shelves and TV stand. I also have to patch the drywall and paint, of course. Never ends.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hidey-ho! Been busier than hell since I got here, the morning is flying by. My new shift knob arrived yesterday, so it is sitting in its rightful place on my workbench, where it will collect dust for a couple months.

Have a good day, Gurus!

Well it was quite a night around here and I am a fortunate man.....I have good news and bad news and great news and then some really bad news and then some ok news.....what do you want to hear first.........

Ok.....the good news was my new spark plug wire came in....the bad news was it was the wrong one...too short. Then I was doing a bit of work on the car and dropped the allen wrench and went probing for it found it way down on the frame and there was my original spark plug wire....I'm not making this up....much rejoicing and laughing and shop dancing....so car was done it was 55 degrees out so lets go get some supper and fuel the car up.

Got out to the Shell station and stopped and holy chit the smoke was rolling out of the engine bay...I ripped open the hood and the right side of the engine was on fire....I mean flames coming up...I tore into the gas station yelling for the fire extinguisher which was on the wall ripped it off the wall and pulled the pin while running back to the car and sprayed the fire down with the dust and it went out immediately....I can still move pretty good for an old guy.....I stood there and looked at what was my beautiful engine bay now a wreck....damnit damnit damnit......

wait...more in a bit....ring ring.....

The only thing I can think is I did not have the right valve cover on correctly and the oil leaked out on the exhaust manifold and when I stopped it caught on fire...if I hadn't been somewhere with a fire extinguisher I would have lost the car unless I could have smothered the flames with something else like my shirt or my body......my first thing to do is get a good fire extinguisher for the car today and one for the shop and all the other cars....

Surprisingly little damage to the car...will need all new spark plugs wires on that side and it cooked the plastic plug that goes to the fitting on the exhaust manifold....some clean up....more than I already have done and a new gasket for the valve cover......geez....anyway it was my fault the valve covers just fit down over a smooth surface on the head and everything lined up when I put the bolts on to torque down....but something wasn't right....

we learn from it and move on....I got all the parts coming....more later....

Sucks

You were lucky....sorta.........could have happened on a back road with no extinguisher close.

This happens to everyone at some time or another.

Always is in the back of my mind when working on the race cars, double check then triple check and it STILL can happen.

You'll get it fixed and be back to your normal abnormal.

Holy crap, Marcus! Glad it wasn't worse, sorry it happened at all.
Busier than a cat watching three mouseholes here today and it all started with an ex cousin cussing me this morning at 8am. Nice. Will head to the body shop later to deliver an old shotgun I picked up for him. He's needing one for the wife at home, pistol aiming isn't her specialty. Got a Winchester 1400 12 ga auto so he can saw off the barrel and all she has to do is pull the trigger if need be. I'm throwing in about two dozen shells I had I won't be using as I sold my shotgun.
New tv should arrive tomorrow, I'll go pick it up Saturday and get all that mess sorted out, probably gonna give the other one to the other gal that works at the shop for little to nothing.

Well, at noon Rosie calls me and says "Your tires got here. But I think something is wrong. One looks different than the others." Ok, "I'll look at them when I get home." Here they are just like they were when I pulled into the drive.

Resized Image

WTF? Anybody could tell that wasn't the right tire! So thinking the FedEx guy grabbed the wrong tire, So I look at the shipping labels....nope it's got my name and address stuck like glue to the tread. How could ANYONE mistake that tire for the other?

Resized Image

It really doesn't make that much difference, I'm not driving it much anyway. I don't have to have them put on right now, but who the heck could not have seen this?

WOW MARCUS, GLAD IT WASN'T WORSE. GOOD PRESENCE OF MIND ON YOUR PART.

THERE'S A LESSON THERE FOR ME; WHEN I GOT THE '96 IT HAD SOME VALVE COVER LEAKS AND I COULD SMELL HOT OIL. MECHANIC TOLD ME VERY UNLIKELY TO CAUSE FIRE. BEING A PARANOID OLD FART I BOUGHT A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND PUT IT IN THE CAR. PEOPLE WHO DRIVE PLASTIC CARS SHOULD CARRY FIRE EXTINGUISHERS I THOUGHT :-) GOT LEAKS FIXED BUT NEVER TOOK EXT OUT. WAS JUST THINKING, I SHOULD GET THAT OUT OF THE WAY. NOW YOU HAVE ME CONVINCED I SHOULD PUT ONE IN THE '87, MAYBE IN THE OTHER VEHICLES.

Already got a response from the company....Embarrassed to say the least. Shipping out the correct tire tomorrow with a shipping label to send the wrong one back and a $40 credit for the trouble. I'd say that was decent of them and the right thing to do.

They are good looking tires, if I do say so, myself.

Hey guys, just a quick note on under the hood fires.

I learned this at multiple SCCA Fire and Rescue Schools.

When you see smoke and/or flames, DO NOT open the hood, just crack it open an inch or so and stick the extinguisher in the crack and give it a blast.

A fire in there is eating up the oxygen, if you throw the hood, you're likely to get a big fire ball from introducing new oxygen.

Hey Marcus, I thought your car was quicksilver, not torch red? (Sorry, too soon???) Honestly, that is terrible and I hope it's minor and easy to repair.

It's nice to see you can come with a problem to the forum and get a response. May not be the response you expected but a response none the less. We all know it's in jest. What's done is done (the fire) (the responses too). Thanks for the hood tip BillH. I know I'd be one to throw the hood full open. I've been meaning to get fire extinguishers in the vehicles for years. Maybe this will be the incident that pushes me over the edge.
