Good morning gang.

Quiet here so far. Cold again to start the day. Morning temp is 9* and we should have a high of 12* with a wind chill advisory.

Let us get today started shall we.

Word of the day is thaumaturge.

Today is NATIONAL BATTERY DAY

Get a charge out of National Battery Day! Celebrated each year on February 18th, this day recognizes and acknowledges a great invention that would be hard to live without. Batteries are used in many things in our everyday lives.

** IN 1748 BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FIRST COINED THE TERM “BATTERY” TO DESCRIBE AN ARRAY OF CHARGED GLASS PLATES.**

Batteries come in all different shapes, sizes and power capacities. There are tiny watch or hearing aid batteries to large car batteries.

Take a minute to think about how many household items, appliances, electronics, games and etc. that you use each day that require batteries. This list might have on it everything from computers, cell phones and cameras to children’s toys to hearing aids and medical devices to smoke alarms and flashlights, as well as cars, motorcycles and boats. This list could go on and on for a few pages. With this being said, we all know that we need batteries!

Helpful Hint: Remember to store your batteries in a cool, dry location in their original package, until you are ready to use them.

THE FIRST BATTERY: It is said that Alessandro Volta invented the voltaic pile in 1800 thereby producing the first practical method of generating electricity. “The voltaic pile was made by alternating plates of zinc and copper that had pieces of cardboard soaked in brine between them. The metallic conducting arc was used to carry the electricity over a greater distance. Alessandro Volta’s voltaic pile was the modern world’s first “wet cell battery”. This first “battery” produced a reliable, steady current of electricity.”

To celebrate National Battery Day, it is a good idea to check all of your smoke alarm batteries!

NATIONAL BATTERY DAY HISTORY

Our research has failed to find the origin and creator of National Battery Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

NATIONAL CRAB STUFFED FLOUNDER DAY

Each year on February 18th, seafood lovers rejoice as they celebrate National Crab Stuffed Flounder Day.

Enjoy the following “tried and true” recipe:

Good Morning CGs!

Another cold one here today. Might hit 10 if we are lucky. I am so sick of this weather. Ready for some warmer temps so I can bring the car home and get working on the piles of maintenance I have to do. Oh well.

Stopped at Sears last night and picked up the sets of damaged bolt/nut removers. They are on sale for 9.99 each (2 sets of sizes) instead of 19.99. At half off it's hard to pass up, and I'm sure I could have used them in the past several times. Funny, I find myself buying the tools now that I needed before, but might never need again

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Morning guys...early meeting again this morning. It's cold here too. Not as cold as you northerners but cold. I have a load of lumber showing here today, might be waiting for me when I get there. Better go.....

Well, a break from the meeting and no truck yet. I'm like that Matt, I'll buy something I could have used at one point , but may never need again, just because I hate being in a situation where I need something and don't have it. I might have to stop by Sears and check that out.

Thaumaturge......sounds like something I'd drop off in the toilet.

SUNNY AND NOT SO COLD THIS MORNING, THE CHEROKEES ARE SLOWLY THAWING OUT. THE ROADS SEEM DRY, THINK I'LL CRANK UP HARVEY AND MAKE A RUN OVER TO MUSKOGEE.

Some people who think it is wrong to tell children to believe in Santa Claus nevertheless think it is all right to tell adults to believe that the government can give the whole population things we cannot afford ourselves. Believing in Santa Claus is apparently bad for children but OK for adults.

Jeez! Why was he backing in on the blind side anyway? No matter what he had to know he was hitting something to do that much damage. Backing in high range?

I used to have to back into some really tight spots in NYC and Boston. So I put a moto-mirror in the passenger side, one of the better things I did.

Where did you deliver in Beantown, Andy?

Marcus, sorry to hear of this. I'm sure it's the last thing you expected or needed right now.

Grey and rainy day with temps on the decline. Low 40's tonight, high 30's for a low Friday. Winter was going pretty well ........ till now. Birds, piggies and tortoises will need special considerations. Have to wathch the weather close Thursday night for freeze warnings. Oh well, comes with the turf.

Tommy, random chemical plants in the Boston general area. Mostly delivered tank truck loads of latex to plants that made it into house paints. Then there was an adhesives plant just north of Boston (Lowell?) that I would deliver to about once a month that always took delivery around midnight. Guess they didn't want to disturb the neighbors during the day.

WELL, I USUALLY DON'T TIP THE CLERKS AT THE FEED STORE, BUT SHE ASKED ME IF I WAS OVER 55 SO I COULD GET A DISCOUNT :-)

MARCUS I CAN IDENTIFY WITH YOUR DUFUS DRIVER; I BACKED MY PICKUP INTO A TREE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. DAMNED THING JUMPED RIGHT IN BEHIND ME!

I used to high pressure/acid wash the chemical tankers for Mutrie. Also washed the tractors for Yellow Freight. Mutrie was located on the banks of a stream I think in Waltham. Back in the 70's before water regulation kicked in that stream was a chemical mess. The runoff was pretty much free flowing. Those were the days .... lol. My nephews step dad is CMO for California Paints up that way.
