Here's a few photos of the 30-month build of my 85. I'll post more when it's completed. It should be done within a few more months.
I finally realized (duh) that you post pictures the usual way. I don't know why it took me this long to realize that. |

I wish I could take the credit for the work, but cannot. You either very much like these kind of results or you very much do not. There's usually not much in-between. I'm the kind of guy that likes shiny, modified, go-fast parts. A stock engine, to me, is never enough. Even if I had the new Z06, I wouldn't be satisfied and would have to have it pump out more HP.

What I like is the detail. The paint work and the pure show quality shine to everything.
The detail shows me that someone cared about what they were doing. And if it was my money, I would rather do what you did than buy that new Z06... anyone can throw money at a new car, but to do this preserves a bit of the past. Also, this could/would/should inspire someone to do the same thing. Think about it: lets say there is $35k in this car, I don't know, but can you match this custom work with a new car? Top that off with this sad reality: As time goes on, the C5 (and C6) is showing some major weaknesses. The driveline isn't as stout as we would be lead to believe. However, the C4 driveline (particularly with a manual) is pretty darned stout. The C5/C6 are blowing up transmissions and exploding differentials. Literally, diffs are exploding... I have heard of issues with the torque tube, too. And I have seen some tacky custom jobs (remember, gang, I live in Los Angeles!!!) and that job, to me, is simply elegant. Sure, it's not stock, but it's clean and well done and will look unique without being all cheesy and a parody of itself. |

You couldn't be more correct. I could have simply plunked down some money and walked out with a new Vette. I took my 85 and had it transformed into something that will rival any new or old Corvette. Its power matches the new Z06's, but I think the style, the interior, exterior, motor, etc., is far better looking than anything being produced today. Not only was the motor modified, but the brakes and suspension as well. New front and rear springs from VetteBrakes were installed as well as their C4 to C5 front and rear upgrade kit, including their rotors and calipers. I had a Lakewood Blowproof bellhousing installed, because if I ever really get on it and something let's go, I'd like to keep my body parts. A dual friction Centerforce clutch was installed as well as a Tremec TKO-600 5-speed. That 4+3 had to go.
I could go on and on with what's been done to the car, but the point is that I had all this work done because I like the C4, its look, its style and when the car's done, it will handle as well, if not better than a modern Z06 and just may outrun it too. New isn't necessarily better. There is a place for the old, but improved. |

GREAT looking car.
Hope you don't have the same problem I did with one of my cars -- did a body-off restoration. Looked pretty good when I was finished -- so good I couldn't bear to drive it and risk a stone chip or some dirt. Solution? Sold it and now restrict myself to drivers -- nice looking drivers, but drivers none-the-less. Enjoy your new beast! |

How or what did you do to the rear suspension pieces, i.e. the batwing, half-shafts, etc.?

I'll take two, please The red x brace? That's an RD racing cross brace? I think that's what they call it. Very heavy piece but it works well. 85- It doesn't appear to matter anymore but the cats on upside down. The air tube should be on the passenger side. I'm just nit picking. I can't find anything else "wrong". Very nicely done. The attention to detail is amazing and that's just the way I like it. Once you get it outside, could we get some full car shots? |

I salute you! Your Vette is AWESOME! Getting ready to do the same type of thing with my 86.
I thought about buying another C5 (recently sold my 01 Z06) and modifying it...but when my 86 presented itself to me at such a cheap price, I figured I'd start with a less expensive base. No matter which model I went with, the amount of money I am going to put in, I won't get out of the car. $ 25000 for C5 plus another $ 20,000 in mods = $ 45,000 $ 3800 for my 86 plus another $ 20,000 in mods and $ 6000 in other parts = $ 29,800. So, I save some money and still turn times as fast at the C5's and C6's I race with turn. |
