Ladies and gents, I know a lot of things have happened over the past few months, I'm only just hearing about most of it and I'm glad I was pointed to this forum.

However, while many well respected members were clearly treated unfairly and we should support them, that does not give us the right to antagonize the CF. Regardless of whether you or I agree with what's happening or not, it happened. It's capitalism. It's America. Money talks, sponsers talk louder.

Posting insults and trying to see how fast we can get banned over there is not going to help. If anything, other folks over there will begin retaliating and degrade the high quality of this forum by doing the same things. Poking fun and letting people know what's going on by posting HERE is one thing, firing shots across their bow is another.

Let's face it, a lot of us cut our teeth over there, and without the CF lots of us wouldn't be here now. If we want new, quality members to join us over here we should set a good example and make this a place they want to be, not act like teenaged ricers and drop flaming bags of dogshit on their doorstep, ring the bell, and run back to C4guru.

I'm not trying to be "holier then thou" or make anyone feel guilty, just act my age for a change...

i agree..I see most the posts here as dissapointments and some maybe slighltly resentful/hurt as they have put hundreds, some of them thousands of hours into creating a good tech site.

Im sure with everyone putting a little time in here this tech section can be built just as good.

Everyone that gets axed is gonna voice ther .02 but Im sure a new rhythym will develop and everyone here will settle in.

What he said. I believe that many people put much time into it and the only one who profited was Troy. Which I am sure no one has a problem with.

I think what the real kick in the ass is that it was THEIR time and THEIR expertise that made the site what it was. Now they are being told go fk off, we'll take it from here.

I am sure how anyone can see why people feel shat upon.

Like CC said, this will fall into a rhythm the resentment will die over time.

Here here

It's no different that any other part of corporate America. We (you and I) work dilligently to make our company or employer look good, set a good example, etc, then the take over comes, heads roll and you and I are either out the door or still working for the same $$ while the owner/CEO's are raking in the dough. Is it fair. Who the hell knows? But it's corporate America, like it or not.

The only thing that pissed me off over there was the attitudes of some of the moderators and administrators toward the members It was childish and sad.

That and the fact that the admins "couldn't or wouldn't" see what was happening and tried thier damnedest to isolate or protect the new owners from the concerns and suggestions of the masses

But again...

Taking cheap shots only cheapens us. Vent here, among friends . Let others know in a professional, concerned way, about the site (especially the other C4 owners) and lets move forward in the new year

It wasn't CF that educated me about my C4, it was the people there. And that's who they've turned their back on, so f' em. They're getting what they deserve now. It's their forum and they're welcome to run it as they see fit. But that doesn't mean I'm going to feel guilty at rejoicing as I see the continued influx of their talent pool coming over here.
On any good forum I expect to learn things every time I log in. But cars are my passion and so it should be fun too. CF used to be, it's not anymore. It's like being in a world of fundamentalist zealots where you must be careful of every thought, word or action. Otherwise, who knows what price may be exacted.
I think if you'll notice that in spite of the fun, there's no shortage of good and constructive info being passed around here with the increased traffic. This place was going to make it anyway. The fact that the competition gave them a temporary boost is nice but CFG would have and will stand on it's own.

Very well stated, gentlemen. I could not have put it better.

I would like to see us start to drift away from bashing of anykind. I will admit, I don't want to see links to CF, mostly because many of us can't say or do anything about it. However, if it is appropriate, it is not something I will forbid, contrary to their wacky rules.

It is now time to start rising above the noise and becoming the tech site we CAN become.

I agree, guys. I wasn't saying that it isn't a big deal, on the contrary, I think it is. They seem to have screwed over some of the guys who made that site extremely successful - turned their backs on their roots, if you will, and that is unacceptable.

And the jabs are funny, I've had a few myself. But I was starting to see a little snowball effect and didn't want it to become petty.

'nuff said, and in the now immortal words of CFI-EFI:

RACE ON!!!

Yes. I think we need to back off from this, before we look like morons. I don't want to turn into a forum that does nothing but bash folks.
that's just wrong.

I will let the Coup thread last a couple of more days, but come new years, all of these bash threads are gonna be towed and space left for more constructive discussions.

I got that feeling when I first visited DM, that it was based almost entirely on bashing CF.

It's normal though for people to need a place to vent about anything, not having it is a big part of the reason they left other places to begin with! If we can at least keep it all in a few threads, then it won't be invasive to the other threads.

Plus it's pretty damn amusing to read everyone's take on it, positive or negative!

Also I think that's an excellent policy for almost any bad thread that I will exercise. Because deleting it only hides it from the other users, and robs them of the chance to understand/learn/hate our reason for it being inappropriate. If a moderator feels the need to hide his reasons for doing his job, he's probably not serving the best interests of the membership!

Obviously in the case of spam / internet terrorism / porn threads, nobody's going to complain about those disappearing asap.

I know you all are joking, but the truth is, porn threads will likely increase our chances of being blocked at work. We can't afford to be blocked like that.

Bastet44 told me this morning that she can't reach Guru from work because of the games... so the arcade is gone. So is the radio (if you haven't noticed!).

As for porn, gee, 90% of the web consists of naked women, so it isn't all that difficult to find!

I like the idea of locking a thread with a reason. I agree, I don't like the idea of the mods working in the shadows like that.

This is not a bash of CF, but something that actually happened. In the for sale/wanted section I have a thread started. I went there to check if anyone has posted that they have what I'm looking for. A big google ad advertising "love is in the air" and a woman dressed in bra and panties is in the right hand of the ad. Huge sized. My son ran out and told my wife I'm shopping for underwear for her. My wife came in and looked like this... ...I had to explain the whole ad situation to her. She was very skeptical at first so I had to show her. She said she believes me and no problem, but if my boss would see that when I check the forum, what would he say? I said good point. She said at first glance it looks like I am googling women. She told me to find another forum. I guess problem is solved. I'm 100% sure if I were to post a picture like that over there it would get deleted and I'd probably get banned. But there it is on a google ad.

That's a tough call because there are ads like that posted on billboards on public freeways.

You're talking about CF right?

Maybe they'll start getting some of those Gay phone hotline ones next, that might just ruin the browsing experience.

Yes, it was on corvette forum. I do understand that there are images like that on billboards and tv commercials and such, you are right there. But when they show up in a post I typed it gets hard to explain. If it is on my computer screen when the boss walks in it is hard to explain. I know for sure if I were to post that same pic I'd get a nastygram from a mod and the post would be deleted. I guess if I were to post a pic like that and advertise the underwear for sale it would be ok. I am not offended by it, but it doesn't belong in my post over there of wanting a coil wire. I don't go looking on the net for stuff like that, but if I wanted to I would go elsewhere and do it when my son isn't watching over my shoulder. If they put it in my posts, I'll come here!!! I'm here to stay.

Well, you will not find that kind of stuff here....ever. You will see some sponsors, but they will be ones that will HELP our membership, not get you in trouble at home or work.

I do want to encourage everyone to visit some of our sponsors once we get them up and running....they will help pay the bills.
