Good Morning CGs!

Well, the rain is finally here. It's been pouring all morning and supposed to rain some more throughout the day. I'll be driving the truck, though, today because I have some stuff to do that I can't use the vette for. Oh well. I missed the wash. Guess I'll have to actually *wash it* sometime this weekend. Maybe I'll find one of those kids carwash things for $5. Works for me.

Went to help my buddy with the 64 1/2 mustang yesterday (thought it was a 65, was advised it's not). What a PIA! I thought working on 20 year old cars was a pain, 45 year old cars are worse. We had already broken off two bolts holding the thermostat housing in. He removed the radiator before I got there and broke two more bolts...lol. So we removed the grill (no broken bolts!) and I started drilling out the broken ones in the housing. Tried the ez out, no go. Drilled some more, ez out, no go. This continued for a while until I said F it and drilled the bolt completely (minus maybe 15%). Success, was able to get the housing off. I warned my buddy the pot metal housing might break when we go to reinstall it. Well, it did. Lol. Went to a couple parts stores and finally got one. Went to put it on and the flanges were bigger so the bolts wouldn't catch enough thread. WTF. Back to parts store. Finally got it all in and fired it up. Was working great then started leaking!?! Well, I figured out two sources: One, the thermostat slipped out of the groove slightly and made an imperfect sealing surface and/or the coolant was seeping past the bolts since they actually go into the block. Too hot to fix it after we ran it so he's gonna pull it off, tack the thermostat in with a little sealant and put some teflon on the bolts. After that should run like a champ.

Well that was long. Sorry if I bored ya. Altogether a "ten minute" job turned into 4 hours. That's life.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

That's pretty typical for any of my projects - something doesn't go as planned, a couple extra trips to the store, etc. Sounds like your bud should get a 55-gallon drum of PB-Blaster ;-)

Talked to my engine guy last night - doesn't sound like it will be ready this week as he's still waiting for the gasket set. He got me a new timing chain and oil pump, though, and the crank is back from being ground. Hopefully it won't take long once he gets the gaskets. My new PCM came from madtuner.com yesterday - wish I had something to hook it up to :-P

Heck Matt, I think I remember working on one of those Mustangs when it was about 6 years old and those same bolts broke off. One thing about those old cars, at least you can see and get to most everything without taking a bunch of stuff off first.

Brad, I can only imagine how yancy you are getting waiting for the engine to be reassembled.

I didn't get squat done yesterday, except get that computer fixed. Today I have to get out to the shop and get some work done. Tomorrow we head off to KC to visit the two daughters that live there, attend the second birthday party for my youngest granddaughter and take in a Royals game. It will be a full weekend. But the nice thing is we will be going in the Corvette.

Hello all. This will be a little long so bear with me.
Trip to Vegas was great. Lot's of beautiful women, plenty of gamblin, ate well, saw a couple of shows and popular free hotel attractions too. Temps were ideal and I hit a couple of nice pots on the slots. One for $1000 and one for $929. I put the winnings in my pocket and brought them home. I spent plenty trying to win them so really it was a wash. Just came home with 2 grand more than budgeted. Did I say there were some beautiful women?
Wife and son continue with the oil and water mixture of a relationship. Can't we all just get along.
Today we are putting in a bid on a foreclosed home that has been trashed. We see a lot of potential and an opportunity for a long term investment on this one. We are putting in a bid of 49k. See what happens. Good chance we'll get it. I'll post "before" pics if this comes to pass. We should know in a few days. Last sale price was 250K in 2006.

Isn't retirement grand !!! Well I'm off to cut some grass at the nursery. Later .......

Good Morning Gurus!

Story of my life, Matt. Except for me it is usually due to not having the proper tool for the job. I have vowed to go buy what I need from now on, instead of using a hammer for everything...

Sorry to hear things are progressing so slowly, Brad. Bummer.

Had an interesting day at the zoo yesterday. It was raining, so the animals were freaked out and not cooperating. The vet had to do some surgery on one of the primates, so they were super freaked out, and REALLY not cooperating... The horticulture guys were working near the Grizzly bears, so they were freaked out and... NOT cooperating.

A bird expo was canceled due to the weather, which was not cooperating.

I got to feed a hippo though. That was cool. And messy.

Going back on Friday to get more footage. It's supposed to rain...

Enjoy your day!

Damn, Tommy, you're catching up to me in winnings.

Retirement's grand aaaaaa except for some pg the projects that were put off. I'm going to be on my knees with a belt sander today smoothing the subfloor in prep or the hardwood.

Good morning, Gurus!

It's another beautiful cloudy morning here, which means we'll have a great sunny afternoon in the 70s.

Cognrats on the winnings, Tommy - very cool!

Chris - what did you feed the hippo?

I've got some chocolate ice cream churning - and when it's ready, I'll stir in some mini marshmallows and toasted almonds to make Rocky Road.

Grapefruit. The power of their jaws is astounding. Entire cabbages and melons pulverized with no more effort than it would take for us to eat a tomato.

4,000 lbs.

That's so cool, Chris. I've seen them eat whole pumpkins - amazing.

Ice cream update...
I finished a batch of Peace Ice Cream (no sugar added), Rocky Road, Peach Sorbet, and now I'm working on Lemon Ice.

Are you really churning this by hand, or do you have some kind of electric? If you're doing it all by hand, I hope you're able to alternate right and left, or you're gonna be off balance!

LOL =)

Yes, I have a WONDERFUL automatic ice cream machine. I highly recommend it. It's called Gelato by Lello. All you have to do is plug and play. It's a chiller and churner. No salt and ice, no freezing the bowl, no hand cranking anything.

I've got a Berry Sorbet going right now - mixture of fresh blackberries, raspberries and strawberries.

I finished up a batch of Apricot Sorbet, and just one churning of Pomegranate Orange Sorbet. I'll finish the rest of the Pom tomorrow. Me and the machine need some rest.
