I would kind of like to see what's left of the crank that used to be in there after that kind of devastation.
I sure hope this wasn't someone's bright idea to remove 4 bolt main block material and weld it into a 2 bolt block. Yikes. |

Almost there, just take out those useless cylinders and you have a budget lightweight 400 block that weighs what an Al block does. Suck on that.
Seriously though, what the hell happened there. The uniformity of the damage is what is most frightening. Butchered 4 bolt conversion? Story? |

Not necessary. That's a new design engine. The lack of pistons and a crank cuts the friction to zero, thus oil is no longer required. |

400 blocks can be prone of cracking if you throw too much at them that one made just under 500hp, yanked the main webbing clean out of it. What caused that particular block to go I dont know, not mine. Just posting it for fun.
Have seen many live at higher power levels fwiw. |

Wow, that doesn't seem like ridiculous power and in a 400, impressive that the whole webbing ripped out. It would be interesting to watch how that progressed.
Guess the SHP block makes more and more sense. |

It was a 4 bolt block, right? I've heard of this happening to the 4 bolt 400 blocks. Believe it or not, they are weaker than the 2-bolt. If I were to do this again, i'd probably go with a Dart block for $1500.. I probably spent more in machining making my 400 2-bolt 'bulletproof' than what a Dart block would cost me needing only a final hone. -- Joe |

I have a friend that's a local bracket racer. 406 about 500-550hp 2 bolt block. The same EXACT thing happened to him. He makes alot of passes each year, and hearing the horror stories of 4 bolt blocks having issues, he stayed with a 2 bolt block. The amazing thing was it didn't hurt any of his rotating ass'y. I guess he got lucky... sort of!
