I have a supervisor at work that is the biggest asshat I known in 25 years. That was the last time I had a jergoff
boss. As a machinist in a production oriented shop, it's not unusual for mistakes to occur. Anytime someone, anyone does, he crawls up their ass making things worse. People
have repeatedly gone upstairs to mgmt to complain and he's even been given 3 days off before, but he's still doing it.
On nights when he leaves early, the entire shop seems to relax. Even the people that work for other supervisors. He will stop at nothing to win a conversation and repeatedly has written people up based on partial truths. When he wants something you'll know it because he walks up either smiling or saying please. When he gets it, you can actually watch his facial expression and his entire demeanor towards you change. I could go on, but I have to give up the computer.

Let me know I'm not alone, if you guys have jagoffs like this at work, write it down.

I've had a couple if asshat bosses but there were usually easier targets around than me. Keep him off balance. Play by the rules and use the rules against him when possible. Do your job and nothing extra. Do what they legally say to the letter. Hum, smile and joke with your friends. Pisses some people off when your happy go lucky.

Karma's a bi_ch boys. Think of it as right now you are making deposits in First Nat Bank of Karma. Eventually life will swing back your way and you can start to receive your just rewards. I worked for an iron clad SOB for 5 years. When I left to go to work for one of his suppliers, my income near doubled and my new boss is an absolute gem, best manager I have ever worked with. But wait, there's more... The jerk I worked for was eventually found out for the do nothing schmuck that he is and was transferred to some little backwater town to work for somebody even worse than him. Like I say Karma's a bi_ch, a mean one...

Perhaps I've been fortunate in my career of the past 30+ years. I've only had one jerk for a boss.
Complained to upper management, and was told unless I would do his job, tough it out (they wouldn't have canned him anyway).

So, I quit that job.

Any time someone complains about a job, my response is either take it to a higher level in management, and if they do nothing, find something else or live with it.

Sort of hard to find something else right now, so....

Yeah, those bosses that get pissed at you for posting online while at work are real tools!

I am a fellow machinist and like "most" inspectors ... usually the guys in charge were bad machinists ... who couldn't hold tolerances etc..I always reveled in the fact that maybe they could measure it or tell you how to do it BUT they could'nt do it. The people that can do "it AND who hold those positions carry my respect..
sounds like nobody respects this guy and usually this does not go un-noticed but I know how hard it is to work under those conditions.... Used to be due to the nature of our work you could always go to the next shop for more $$$ and I have never been out of work/laid off unless I wanted not to work. .

It's good to know I'm in good company and not alone.
Today wasn't too bad, but I'm pretty sure the pre-work prayer helped more than I know. Thanks for putting up with my rants you guys.

I've been managing people for almost 15 years and in my experience it's not what you say, it's how you say it. I've worked with and worked for this same kind of people. All you gain from this type of behavior is short term results. People want to believe in who they work for and if you truly can't inspire others to want to be lead by you, then you'll never make. If the middle, or upper management, can't recognize this then they are also part of the problem.

Asshat bosses are probably compensating for their lack of knowledge or skills. Perhaps their spouses are overbearing and they take it out on you.
