Good Morning CGs!

Happy Monday everyone. It seems like time is going by too quickly this week. I have a lot of little tasks and chores to do and for some reason it feels like I am not getting anything accomplished! Oh well.

So how was everyone's weekend? On Sat night a few twisters touched down about an hour from here and did some pretty bad damage. Luckily the death/injuries weren't severe, but anytime something like that happens it's pretty tragic. And wouldn't you know it, the twister his a trailer park....hmmmm.

Should be a temperate, comfortable day today (we hope!)

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Morning all. Boy am I sore. After the monsoons yesterday, I dropped the shorblock in the vette, and bolted it up. Engine mounts, bellhousing bolts, torque converter, c-beam and driveshaft.
After work today, I am going to try to finish drilling the steam holes in the heads, and block the egr ports too. After a disassembly and final clean, they may be ready to be installed tomorrow night. Moving along, although slowly.

One of Theresa's co-workers lost their house.. they were out of town and came back to find their house leveled and their dog missing (they did find the dog later though so that is good) We were listening online to the fire fighters radio's... there was a house in the middle out Rte. 1 blocking the road ect.. pretty bad stuff...

Morning guys. Hoprfully the tornados will be very few this year.
June's a busy month here, I was on the racetrack Saturday. Next weekend: www.octanefest.com, 4x4 Jambore, Pro motox, rock crawl, car show, circle track dirt cars.
Thf following weekend: http://www.grandsierraresort.com/xtreme-outlaws/ , a 250mile desert race starting at the casino, thru the streets like Baha. And a Supermoto in the casino parking lot.
The next weekend is the 341 Hillclimb.
Fun month.

Greetings! The weekend was way too short as usual. Yesterday was wacky - sunny and calm, windy and cloudy, raining sideways, sunny and calm. Decent day today, but the rest of the week looks like a washout. Mojo to those with severe weather. Putzed with the car a bit over the weekend and got it to run a little smoother, still not 100% satisfied.

Have a good Monday, all!

Morning all,

I want some rain!... only a little bit... 35c and no air is getting to me.

Spent a few days trying to find a squeak in the vette, had door off, been poking around under the dash and seats. Eventually found the battery I fitted a few weeks ago was rubbing on the fender panel!... ground down the battery lifting handle and it's heaven (no squeak) in the cockpit now.

Have a good day all.

PS: anyone know how to kill off a pine tree root... it seems to have got under my garage and is lifting the floor tiles

Just got back from the dentists office from my semi-annual professional cleaning. One small cavity to take care of later this month. Who's been holding back on going to the dentist? Come on now ..... Make that appointment today.
No plan today but I'm sure I'll be filling my day with something. There are always tasks sitting on the back burner.

I have a tool guy question. If I wanted to cut a burnt roof off a house in sections and toss it in a dumpster, what tool would you recommend to cut through burnt timber. I guess an alternate plan is to have a back hoe bust it up but still I'd need some type of saw to clean it up some. Ideas?

I'll try to ask my wife later. I think you have locate the offending root from outside the structure and sever it. It will take some time for the root to die and dry. You have to dig up the damaged floor, remove the root, patch the floor and replace with new tiles.

Easiest, fastest and most dangerous - Chain Saw.

Next: a circular saw with a new carbide blade ( a framing blade with fewer teeth will cut faster, the carbide can go thru nails but it's best not to).

R U just removing the roof surface and not the trusses?

At this stage I'm just asking. House fire destroyed the place and would strip it down to the tie beams. The whole roof has to go. Lots of carbon on the damaged wood from the fire. I think it would chew up chain saw blades like there's is no tomorrow. I was leaning to the carbide blades on one of the big saws all. I'd have to cut through hurricane straps, nails, conduit etc.

I'm interested in buying a property and the house is destroyed. I want to convert the home to storage for the nursery which would mean removing the roof. I have the manpower and I have access to some heavy equiptment but I need to get the burnt roof off. I'm open to suggestions. I guess we could bash it in with a back hoe then cut up or smash up the scrap material and put it in a dumpster for disposal. I was thinking maybe something like this.

The carbon won't mess with the chain saw that much, you should be able to do a whole roof w/o sharpening, but, the nails can catch the blade.

IMO: The sawsall will work. BTW, I use a carbide blade on a circular saw to cut 1 inch lead (racecar weight).
I would use both.
I's use the circular to remove the roof inbetween the rafters and the sawsall to gemove the trusses.
I'd do this because of the weight, it's easier to pick up a 2x4 or 2x6 piece of plywood to throw it to the ground.
The circular saw will be faster for the plywood, the sawsall will be safer for the trusses.
I'd also think about using some tiedowns from a stable truss to the one you're cutting to prevent the truss from falling over on you while you make the last cut.

That's kinda heavy to work with all day (I've used one).
Kinda dangerous,too.
A circular saw will be almost as fast and weighs nothing.

BTW, I've used a circular to pull big pieces of plywood siding off a house inbetween the studs.

I flipped a house a few years ago with a burned two stall detached garage. Prep was done with a sawzall and a pack of 6" Milwaukee demolition blades. These bad boys will rip through anything! 8 1/2" extreme duty power saw blade for the ripping deep cuts and sectioning. Rented a Bobcat for a day and 2 dumpsters later done. IMO the gas powered carbide saws can get real dangerous while on a burned weakened roof.

If you only want to use one tool then the sawsall will be best. Just make sure you have plenty of blades and long enough ones to cut what you want. When sharp/new the sawsall will cut pretty quickly. Better yet get a battery one so there is no chance of cutting the cord by accident. have a few batteries and a charger around to complete the task.

This is turning into being quite a day. My 90 Corvette just got released from the body shop. Fresh coat of paint and she's ready to go. She probably hasn't looked this nice since about 1992. I'll be babying it like a new car. The first new scratch is gonna be a bitch.( Already thinking ahead ). Pics will come later. Good thing it's not my daily driver. They had it for about 7 weeks.

I agree with Ron, a sawzall with the right blade will cut right through anything that you'll likely encounter.

I got to spend all morning at school doing VocEd paper work. What a bunch of crap. This afternoon, I'm waiting on a serviceman to look at our AC unit. The wife thinks it's not cooling like it ought to.

I'm sitting around waiting and watching the two younger grandsons. Not much else going on. Guess I'll work on another computer.

Looks great T.

If you're going to do the runs yourself, get this run razor.
I remove runs with a razor blade but wouldn'y advise doing it unless you have practice. This unit holds the blade at the correct angle and is adjustable for depth. $7.95.

This with a $3 sanding pad will make things come out perfect.
Don't sand it with your fingers.

The hood was not removed but was replaced in 1995. There may be some minimal allignment issues. I'll check into it. The shop is going to repair the runs for me in about a month. There is one by the driver door handle and one by the back of the drivers side rear quarterpanel. Overall the paint looks good. They used GMs standard Artic White paint. They had to patch a gouge in the top passenger side of the hood had recoated most of the hood with new gelcoat. The shop did a pretty good amount of teardown and repair for the money. Removed front and rear bumpers and quarterpanels, removed all the black trim. One of my dogs had put some chew marks the front bumper trying to get at a lizard. My wife hit something with the front plate cover, some bonehead backed into the right front in a parking lot and took off, an awning fell on the hood during Hurricane Wilma a few years back and the top was looking a bit chaffed.. Got a bunch of things repaired for one low price.

I can understand the 'babying' comment after all those previous mishaps Tommy... are you allowed to hang a gun rack in cars in FL?

Was only curious about the aligment because I've seen a few C4's (mine included) where the nose doesn't line with the hood and I can't figure how to adjust it.

That respray looks excellent though... 7 weeks AND a good price, well done.

That's the factory color Tom. They just shot the exterior. The jambs are already white. No color change. White is the best color for Florida as far as heat goes. Black .... whew!
Hot, hot, hot .....

Good day today.
Got them (Heads) prepped, installed, and torqued down.

New paint looks great Tommy!

Till ya get used to it?

May be hard to work on a car inside but the pics of your suspension won't show corroded parts from sittin' in a snow bank.
