Not sure if its a matter of womens lib but the rational of what is proper.
The kid doesn't want to go thru life beating girls.

I praise him for doing the right thing.

We should slap her parents though......

That has happened here also. The Catholic schools will not allow it or the other Christian schools. We have a girl who is on the team here and she has kicked a lot of the boys asses she goes up against. One other reason they don't want to wrestler her.

I see this from a few different directions:

1. The boy would not be "beating" on a girl. This is a controlled sporting environment with rules and referees.

2. The girl has every right to compete in a given athletic event that she feels qualified to participate in. Women have been popping up in pro sports for a few years now; notibly, a woman who played goalie for the Tampa Bay Lightening. She was very good at prior levels and they wanted to try her out. Ok, she got shelled, but she did play. I give it another 10 years, and there will be women playing certian positions in the NFL, most likely kicker. I also see women breaking into the NHL, mostly as goalies. If they are capible, by all means.

3. Many of our gender rules are based on old school thinking; it is time to change that thinking. About the only place I worry about women participating is in ground combat. Especially since the opponents don't play nice.

4. The boy in this case has every right to forfiet. I just think his act was more cowardly than heroic. If he is that good, he should just have kicked her ass and moved on.

We had a young lady on the wrestling team. Two years ago she became the first female to qualify for state (in Kansas). Throughout the season there were several boys who refused to wrestle her, some who talked big and then got their asses handed to them and some who took her on and beat her. At State that first year there was lots of publicity about her. She lost in the first round, came back and won a match and then lost. Her Senior year she went four rounds, but didn't place. She now wrestles for a college in Oklahoma that has a womens team.

I respect a girl's right to play a sport - no doubt. I also respect this kid a lot for taking a stand in what he believes in.

We had a meet where the opposing team had two girl wrestlers.

The first match went well for the girl. She beat the guy on our team and he NEVER lived that down.

The second match was a failure for the girl. She was way out classed...just didn't have the strength to compete.

However, after the meet was over our school received papers claiming the boy wrestler groped the girl inappropriately and they were calling it sexual harassment.

I'm not sure what happened to that but it drug on the rest of that school year and I ended up in college. I have no idea what happened.

I thought it was crap though...she's wrestling with guys and gets upset if someone gets a hand on her tits or ass.

That happened to me a couple times when I was in martial arts. Ground fighting with a girl and accidentally grab a wrong part when trying to move around or do a throw...never felt quite right fighting with a woman because of that.

Wait... Men and women are different? I thought everyone was equal? Why should anyone get in trouble for grabbing the chest of another EQUAL in a wrestling match?

Rights and privileges are very different. And you say old school likes it wrong. If some dyke wants to play with the boys then somebody should break her arm and send her back to bizerkley!

Wrestling is a gender based sport and women have NO BUSINESS playing the game. If its so important for women to compete then start a girls wrestling program.

Why are there mens and womens volley ball tournaments? Cause its a gender based designed sport program.

Plus watching the women play is so much more rewarding.

it seems like there is always the asshole that needs to cross the line with it.. be it the guy who intentionally grabs her inappropriately or the girl that cries wolf or is just being overly sensitive about it. or a parent that didn't like what they saw. its at a point where its like why even bother. they probably had to piss and moan to get the girls even on the team and then its nothing but a headache to follow. i feel like the boys who wouldn't compete are just unable to control their boners and are projecting the issue onto the girl.

It's a no win. The kid did the right thing, regardless of whether it was for the right reasons.

He wins then he's a bully who beats up on girls, or gropes them, or whatever.

He loses and for the rest of his life he is the dude that got beat up by a girl.

What possible outcome is going to be in his favor?

Why can't men wrestle in women's sports?

People need to get hobbies, and This kind of crap needs to stop. But so does reality TV, and people can't turn that off, either. If their own lives were more interesting then none of this would be news.
