Pretty much taking the day off. May go for a ride to check what's happening with the 928. This evening Sue and I are going to the casino where I get free dinner on my birthday and go lose whatever I saved and more at the card table. Just the two of us, at least I hope so. I'm surprise partied out. A quiet birthday is always what I want but what I rarely get. Enjoy your day gang.

Good Morning CGs!

I'll tell you this heat is killing me. I was working out yesterday and just felt so weak. Pushing weight that is usually easy was a chore. I didn't even run last night because I had no energy (and a crappy day at work!). Let's go back to 70* with a cool breeze

Few more days of work then I'm off. I have the rugrats, but might get to work on the car Friday night. Not sure. We'll see.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Quick story ...
Our friends Donald and Kim recently closed on their first home purchase. He's a yard man and car detailer. Between the two jobs he eeks out a living. His wife is a nurse. Recently some members of his community threw him a welcome party in the middle of the night. They broke into his trailer that was parked in his back yard and helped themselves to everything but his riding lawnmower. Guess they couldn't figure a way to carry it. They couldn't cut his lock so they cut the hinges on the trailer door. That's a fine how-do-you-do.

Thomas Happy Birthday! Hope you hit the jackpot tonight or at least eat a decent steak....

Matt it's wearing me out also, I got no energy and yesterday it was so hot and no breeze....but who cares because the Bad News Bears beat a team who had beaten us 3 times during the regular season to get into the championship game........Holy Cow! Where has this team been all season? Last nights game was at 6 pm and the temps were 98 degrees and heat factor was 111. You just sat and sweat.

We play a team that we lost by one run to in the regular season but who has not been beat yet in the tournament. That means if we win the first one we will have to turn around and play again in 30 minutes because it's double elimination. I'm betting its going to be hot again today.

I bought a set of used Corsa exhausts from a guy back in Dons country. Paid 675 shipped. He had a new set of Tiger Sharks. TB found them for me.....thanks TB!

Corn pics to look at......
Its very hot on this little road to the pivot point..

Resized Image

This is from up on the pivot tower. A normal pivot covers 130 acres. It takes 4 days to make the circle and apply an inch of water on each of those acres.

Resized Image

Some Chevy 502 Big Block power helping to feed America. This one runs on natural gas. Most of the wells will pump a thousand gallons of water per minute for days on end. There are thousands of these wells running right now in Nebraska.

Stay cool Guru's, which isn't hard since we are all cool anyway......

Good morning and Happy Birthday to Tommy.........I think most of the country is in the grips of this heat wave. All I can say about that is, at least the wind has not been a blast furnace, light winds have prevailed here.

Marcus that's a good price. I think that you're going to love them. Our corn here is lagging a bit. You are right those wells pump lots of water and people wonder why our water table is going down.

The exhoust system is over the axels and two mufflers and were all shined up. We will see how it all works out. Andy should be happy somebody else is getting some Corsas.

That's because Kansas is stealing all our water.....

Yeah it drops during the drought years but recharges pretty quick when we have a wet year. They have been going to limit gals pumped and put meters on every well but have never had to do it. Best underground water system in the World. Ice cold clear pure water....its amazing!

Thanks for posting that pic of the exhaust. I could not figure out how to do it........

I was thinking about agriculture and water the other day!
I am amazed at the farmer's resilience in my region to urban crawl and poor environmental care. They also get a lot of crap from the tree huggers and "Save the Bay" folks because of sediment and fertilizer runoffs into the estuaries and finally into the Chesapeake Bay. They are up against a great many odds. However, it seems like we have a bumper crop of awesome sweet corn this season and its everywhere. All the local produce wagons have tons of it cheap... at least cheap in Washington DC terms. I live only 31 miles, as the crow flies from downtown DC and Mr. Obama but in-between there are hundreds of remaining small rural farms that are providing local corn, tomatoes, cantaloupe and other produce. It's amazing that in a densely populated area like the Baltimore / Washington Corridor there is still room for agriculture.

It does amaze me though how many Corvette owners are oblivious to the Corvette Culture. I run into them all the time. I'll see them parked at the ice cream store or somewhere else and I'll approach them and explain about the CCA and ask if they have ever thought about something like that and they just look at me like a cow looking at a new gate! Lots of people just buy them and never look into the history, the experience, the people or the fun that can be had with these incredible cars. I guess, I am so engrained into the culture I actually think of the culture ahead of the car sometimes. I got an email yesterday from a guy in Miami who needs to find a reputable shop to work on his C4. (Tommy?) Has owned it since new and has no Corvette contacts! WTF?

Anyhow... Glad you scored on a great set of muffs!

In Homestead for Corvette repairs I use Homestead Chevrolet. It's not the dealership, it's the mechanic, Kent. He is an outstanding Corvette resource. Knowledgable, fair and efficient. I pay dealership hourly rates but get the job done right the first time. They let me bring in my own parts to save a few bucks.

In Miami a great C4 mechanic is J. I don't use him because of the distance he is from me but my friends do and they're all real happy with him. He works on many makes and models including classics.

Happy Birthday, Tommy! Cool pics, Marcus, and congrats on your Corsa purchase. I started out the day with a trip to the dentist, just a cleaning. Gonna be 97 today, 100 tomorrow. The gal who cleaned my teeth is from the Philippines, so she thinks this weather is great. Glad someone is enjoying it.

Marcus... Looks like you were dealing with a guy in Northern VA. That's Falls Church, VA - Nice place but I try to stay away from the traffic and urban/suburban mess between here and there.

We get tons of requests from people wanting to join CCA that are out of state and far away just because we are the oldest club in existence. I usually direct them to another NCCC affiliated club in their region but some still insist on becoming members. I had one member in Miami and another in Cali and others here and there, but the most famous long distance member that is still on the books is one of our club founders from 1956, a Lifetime Honorary Member now. He is currently living in Florida and getting up in age but still corresponds with us occasionally. He reads our newsletter faithfully every month and his wife recently sent us a letter explaining how much Dr. Dick Thompson loved his time with Corvette Club of America and appreciates the monthly newsletter. I hope he hangs in there. I'd love to see him next year if we come down to Sebring.

The photo below was taken in 2002 or so. It is two of our club members that were in Sebring for the races and they had their photos taken with Dick.

PS... when we get new new decals I'll send you a few!!

A LITTLE GIRL ON A PLANE

A congressman was seated next to a little girl on an airplane so
he turned to her and said, "Do you want to talk? Flights go
quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger."

The little girl, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total stranger, "What would you want to talk about?"
"Oh, I don't know," said the congressman. "How about global warming , universal health care , or stimulus packages?" as he smiled smugly.

"OK," she said. "Those could be interesting topics but let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is?"

The legislator, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea."

To which the little girl replies, "Do you really feel qualified to
discuss global warming, universal health care, or the economy, when you don't know shit?"

And then she went back to reading her book.

I was just telling my son the same thing. It's pretty much just another day. He said to me "You don't want to celebrate the first day you were brought to this earth?"
Well, when you look at it that way ......

Yea, just another day to me but everyone sets off fireworks on mine.

I really don't give a rat's ass about my age......cause there ain't thing one I can do about it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOMMY!

Marcus, the exhaust swap is easy on the C5, but you will need it up in the air pretty high to swing the pipes over the axles. Also, be carefull on the studs that the muffler mounts bolt up to. If you break one of the studs you have to remove the rear pumper/facia to replace the studs. I would suggest the nuts with the nylon lock insert and just snug them up.

Neglected to mention, that really blows about your friends getting ripped off, Tommy - hope some karma comes around for the perps.

Happy B-day Tommy.
After one of the worst winters and springs in memory, we're finally getting some summer like weather.

Can I join your club? I would never be involved in any of the activities but I would like to have some cool decals to say I belong to the oldest Vette club in the world and personally know the currant Prez........ I would be an asset to any thing I was in.....

You need a Guru affiliate honorary membership that enables you to get the newsletter and sport the decals...I'd pay something for that.....I'm a lone wolf guy who doesn't join much so this would be perfect for me......all the prestigue but none of the work....... Great pic of the Doc....there is history....

Happy Birthday to me. I have just been told by email that a bank has accepted my offer and signed the contract on a 4 bedroom 2 bath 2400+ sq. ft house with a 2 car garage on 1.2 acres near the nursery. Closing to be scheduled before 8/15. I won't celebrate till the deed is in my hand but this certainly is a step in the right direction. It's a property that needs work but for the price we paid it should be well worth it. Looks like I'll be in for one hell of a workout. Whoo Hoo!
