Well, after almost a year of trying to get the Vette right I threw in the towel. The last morning that I drove it to work when I got there smoke was pouring in through the defrost vents. I spent too much time in the garage and my wife was really getting tired of seeing it in the garage and us not being able to enjoy it.

I took it to the local Chevy dealer and traded it and the VW in on...

It's a 2009 GT with 29K 5 speed, CAI and Flowmasters already installed by previous owner. Tinted windows and navigation. This is the car that my wife and I drove from NC to PA. It got an average of 26mpg and I wasn't taking it easy getting up here.

Just 4 days after I got it this happened in the parking lot at work

Of course no one knows what happened. $500 bill at the body shop that will happen when we get back to NC.

Anyway, I will probably still be stopping by to see what you guys are up to and to bug y'all with questions for dad and his '91

Thank you guys for all the advice. I wanted nothing more than to get the beast running right and spend many years enjoying it.

Parting shots of the Vette

I am sorry to hear it Jeff, I was hoping you would get it going but know you were frustrated. I hope someday you can get a C5 or 6 and drive the heck out of it, they are great cars.

Hope you hang here for all the other knowledge that you can obtain.....I enjoy reading your posts, enjoy the Stang.

Jeff, I can completely understand your frustrations. I'm there now I'd like to move into a C5/C6 but it's not in the finance department right now. Congrats on the new car and good luck with it. We might have to start mustang-guru so you can Chris can have a place to hang out

Don't be a stranger.

Jeff... you will always be my brother when it comes to frustration with Corvettes! We shared lots of PMs and chats. I hope you hang around here because we still want you to part of the community here.

BTW - Love the Mustang, always have! They sound terrific too!

Too bad about the dent. That just sucks on a new car!

Totally understand Jeff. As my 87 ages its getting cantankerous! everything is to specs and it acts up at the most unopportune time. Frustrating, loss of confedence and overall negative attitude on my part gets me thinking along the same lines. Mustang GT, Camero SS. or even something more practical. But yet I still keep striving for perfection in the 87! maybe another hundred bucks here hundred bucks there will make it run more consistant, or maybe since I have had it since it was a "pup" I can't give up on it.

The reason I went with the Mustang is because I traded in both my cars on this, I had to have some sort of back seat. The boys can fit in there, yes it's a little cramped but they love riding in it. The Flowmasters sound good and it makes us all smile when I get on it.

I would have preferred a new Camaro but they are still out of my price range. I don't regret the Mustang though. I would have loved to get a C5 or C6 but that's gonna have to wait until the boys are out of the house.

An earlier modded Mustang was behind me today on the exit ramp, and he got on it and went around as soon as there was an opening - it sounded very sweet. Intoxicating music ;-)

It needs a short shifter though, the throw makes me feel like I'm driving a Mack instead of a Mustang.

Yes, it was sudden but the smoke pouring out of the vents was the breaking point.

Thanks Don! I am truly happy (and a little jealous) that you got yours straight. PeteK and I were talking about you the other day. He was glad you got it right too.

Put almost 2k miles on the Mustang last week going up to PA. Got an average of 26mpg.

Had a woman in a Silver C5 try to play in Roanoke, VA but I was just trying to get home without getting and tickets.

Get what you like and like what you get. Simple enough.

Enjoy the ride and like others mentioned, hook up with Mustang Chris. Another traitor.
