I've had this hood on my car since early November so I decided it was time to paint it. I'm on the ball. lol. Anyway here are some pics. I got some fisheye on the pass. side but I'm gonna leave it alone, I plan on repainting the entire car this summer anyway.

Looks good on the internet, how's it look in person?
What did you paint it with?
Do you have a hood alignment issue or did you not latch it due to new paint???

It's pretty good. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. I got some orange peel in it that I'm not real happy with but I'll sand and buff it. Like I said I'm repainting the whole car this summer so I'm not too concerned about it. I used a single stage paint on the hood that's what I have on the rest of the car. I painted the whole car 10 years ago so I was just matching that. It's garage kept so it matches very well. As for the hood gaps the hood isn't closed in those pictures, I didn't want to touch the paint to close it.

What do you use to sand before painting? Maybe not on the hood this time, but when you do it next time?

I'm gonna try 120 grit on a 6" da sander then follow up with 220, 400, 600 sanding with blocks and pads before I primer it.

This time I just busted it down with 500 grit wetsanded. On the whole repaint being that this is the cars second paint job (I painted it once 10 years ago) I'll probably razor blade it back to gel coat and prep and paint from there it really depends on how this paint holds up. People don't believe me that the paint is that old but the car sits in the garage alot. Not enough time to fade.

The 120 is going to be fairly aggressive with the DA. It can easily to go thru the paint into the gelcoat and can leave dips in the surface if you go after chips too hard.

You may want to try the 220 with the DA first.

Using 2 different color primers (spray cans) when blocking will really highlite the peaks and valleys.

From the pics, it looks really really good!!!

I am getting ready to do something similar on my '88 but I think I am going to something along the lines of Matte black or Dark Grey(looks black) primer with a clear coat. I want something I can easily fix myself. PLus it will give me experience for my other two

Thanks guys. I'm really proud of it, it's my first paint job with a wetsand and buff job. I've painted race cars and 10 footers before but this was my first real paint try with a wet sand and buff. I laid some color on a T-bucket my dad built, I'm gonna go wet sand and buff it now.

Sounds like some cool stuff right there. I wish I had more time (and money) with my vette. I would have tried to get a hold of a high rise hood and seen if you could have hooked my up with a "how to" or something. I was showing my wife that last pic and told her, yeah..thats red...really hard to get that good of a shine on red. I mean its like a mirror! Mine is shiny but that is terrific!
